1 THE USER INTERFACE 1.1 General Overview The imaging applicatin prvides a wizard-driven interface designed t make the image capturing and viewing prcess intuitive and simple. 1- Main Menu Bar: The main navigatin menu. Prvides wizard-driven access t functins such as: viewing images; taking X-rays frm sensrs; r acquiring images frm devices such as flatbed: scanners; intra-ral camera; and panramic/cephalmetric systems. 2 - Existing Patients List: Displays the current list f patients that exist in the patient database. 3 - Patient Search Entry Frm: Allws users t search the patient database. 4 - Tuch screen Keybard (Optinal): If selected, a keybard displays fr tuch screen mnitrs typically used in dental peratries. Apteryx, Inc. Page 5 f 95

2 MANAGING PATIENTS 2.1 Open/Create Patients Using a Practice Management Bridge The imaging applicatin prvides users numerus methds t create r pen patient recrds. Althugh patient recrds can be manually created, the mst cmmn methd emplyed by dental practices is thrugh integratin referred t as a Practice Management (PM) Bridge. PM Bridging autmates the patient creatin prcess by carrying ver patient (first name, last name, id number, SS number) and demgraphic (birth date, gender, etc.) infrmatin frm cmmn, third-party PM applicatin t the imaging applicatin. PM bridging assures that patient infrmatin in the imaging applicatin matches the infrmatin cntained in the PM applicatin. A PM bridge can be established using the fllwing methds: NameGrabber - Apteryx s patented applet. When installed, NameGrabber runs in the Windws System Tray. Users simply pen a patient s recrd in the PM applicatin by and then click n the NameGrabber icn in the system tray. The imaging applicatin is autmatically launched, the patient s infrmatin is carried ver, and the patient s recrd is pened r created. Visit www.apteryx.cm fr mre infrmatin. PM DataDrills Thru the use f Apteryx s PM data drills, the imaging applicatin can manually pull patient and related demgraphic infrmatin directly frm a third-party PM database and use it t create a patient. DataDrills are typically used in cnjunctin with NameGrabber t fill in any missing infrmatin when pulling patient data frm an applicatin. Visit www.apteryx.cm fr mre infrmatin. Integrated PM Bridge / Cmmand Line Optins The imaging applicatin ffers many ptins t pen patients using cmmand line arguments. Parameters can be sent with the applicatin s executable file t pen/create patients. Cmmand line ptins are useful t develpers fr creating a buttn within a third-party PM applicatin that autmates the prcess f pening r creating the related patients image file. Fr mre infrmatin refer t the fllwing nline knwledgebase article: OVERVIEW: Cmmand Line Parameters. In many circumstances, befre a PM bridge is implemented, a dental practice manually creates patients in the sftware. As a result, patient infrmatin may nt exactly match the infrmatin being passed via the PM bridge. After the PM bridge is implemented, the user may be presented with a Patient Des Nt Exist dialg bx when attempting t pen a patient that DOES exist in the imaging applicatin if there is a mismatch with the patient infrmatin passed. Refer t the fllwing nline knwledgebase article fr instructins t update the existing patient: HELP: Errr "Patient Des Nt Exist". 2.2 Adding/Creating a New Patient T manually create a new patient recrd: 2.2.1 Enter in the required patient infrmatin in the Search Criteria fields.
