WOF= Width of Fabric LOF = Length of Fabric Fabric A (2209PM-99 Panel Black), cut: Fussy cut (1) 22 ½ x 22 ½ square Fussy cut (4) 5 ½ x 5 ½ squares Fabric B (2210M-99 Swirly Snowflake Black), cut: (2) 6 ½ x 36 ½ strips (2) 6 ½ x 24 ½ strips Fabric C (2213-09 Words Silver), cut: (2) 4 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut into (12) 4 ½ squares. (4) 2 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut into (64) 2 ½ squares. Fabric D (2214-11 Snowflake Polka Dot Silver Blue), cut: (2) 1 ½ x 24 ½ strips. (2) 1 ½ x 22 ½ strips. Sub-cut into (8) 2 x 8 ½ strips and (8) 2 x 5 ½ strips. (8) 1 ½ x WOF strips. Piece the strips together and cut (2) 1 ½ x 62 ½ strips and (2) 1 ½ x 60 ½ strips. Fabric F (Pirouette 2113 Fog Gray), cut: (15) 2 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut into (240) 2 ½ squares. Fabric G (Pirouette 2113 Black ), cut: (8) 4 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut into (128) 2 ½ x 4 ½ strips. (4) 2 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut into (64) 2 ½ squares. (8) 2 ½ x WOF strips for the binding. Fabric H (2211-11 Snowflake Plaid Silver Blue), cut: Fussy cut (4) 6 ½ x 62 ½ strips from LOF centering each on two squares. Fabric I (2214-99 Snowflake Polka Dots Black), cut: (1) 6 ½ x WOF strip. Sub-cut the strip into (4) 6 ½ squares. Backing (Charleston 2198-09 108 wide), cut: (1) 82 x 82
STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 3 of 7 Sewing Sew using a ¼ seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless otherwise noted by the arrows. Center Block Assembly 1. Sew one 1 ½ x 22 ½ Fabric D strip to each side of one 22 ½ Fabric A square. Sew one 1 ½ x 24 ½ Fabric D strip to the top and bottom of the 22 ½ Fabric A square to complete the 24 ½ x 24 ½ center square (Fig. 1). 2. Sew one 6 ½ x 24 ½ Fabric B strip to each side of the center square. Sew one 6 ½ x 36 ½ Fabric B strip to the top and bottom of the center square to complete the Center Block (Fig. 2). Fig. 1 Fig. 2 Star Block Assembly 3. Place one 2 ½ Fabric E square on the left side of one 2 ½ x 4 ½ Fabric D strip, right sides together (Fig. 3). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 3). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 4). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼ seam allowance. 4. Place another 2 ½ Fabric E square on the right side of the 2 ½ x 4 ½ Fabric D strip, right sides together (Fig. 5). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 5). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 6). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼ seam allowance. This completes one E/D/E unit. 5. STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 4 of 7 6. Repeat Steps 3-4 using ninety-six 2 ½ x 4 ½ Fabric G strips and (192) 2 ½ Fabric F squares to make ninety-six F/G/F units total (Fig. 7). 7. Sew one E/D/E unit to each side of one 4 ½ Fabric C square to make the middle row. Sew one 2 ½ Fabric F square to each end of one E/D/E unit to make the top row. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew the rows together to make one Star Block Center Unit (Fig. 8). Repeat to make twelve Star Block Center units total. 8. Sew two F/G/F units together, lengthwise, to make one side border. Repeat to make a forty-eight side borders total (Fig. 9). 9. Sew one side border to each side of one Star Block Center Unit. Sew one 2 ½ Fabric G square to each end of two side borders to make the top and bottom borders. Sew the borders to the Star Block Center Unit to make one Star Block (Fig. 10). 10. Repeat Steps 8-9 to make twelve Star Blocks total. make 96 make 48 Fig. 7 Fig. 8 Fig. 9 Fig. 10 Corner Block Assembly 11. Sew one 2 x 5 ½ Fabric E strip to each side of one 5 ½ Fabric A square. Sew one 2 x 8 ½ Fabric E strip to the top and bottom of the 5 ½ Fabric A square to complete one Corner Block Center Unit (Fig. 11). 12. Repeat Steps 3-4 using thirty-two 2 ½ x 4 ½ Fabric G strips and sixty-four 2 ½ Fabric C squares to make thirty-two C/G/C units total (Fig. 12). 13. STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 5 of 7 14. Sew one side border to each side of the Corner Block Center Unit. Sew one 2 ½ Fabric G square to each end of two side borders to make the top and bottom borders. Sew the borders to the Block Two center block to complete one Corner Block (Fig. 14). 15. Repeat Steps 13-14 to make four Corner Blocks total. Fig. 14 Quilt Top Assembly 16. Sew three Star Blocks together to make one side border. Repeat to make a second side border. Sew one strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew two Corner Blocks and three Star Blocks together to make the top border. Repeat to make the bottom border. Sew the borders to the top and bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top (Fig. 15). Fig. 15
STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 6 of 7 17. Sew a 1 ½ x 60 ½ Fabric E strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew one 1 ½ x 62 ½ Fabric E strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top (Fig. 16). Fig. 16 18. Sew one 6 ½ x 62 ½ Fabric H strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 6 ½ Fabric I square to each end of the two 6 ½ x 62 ½ Fabric H strips to make the top and bottom borders. Sew the borders to the quilt top (Fig. 17). Layering, Quilting and Finishing 19. Press the quilt top and backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, pressed quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete. Binding 20. Cut the ends of the eight binding strips at a 45 degree angle and sew end to end to make one continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together. 21. Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, raw edges together. Turn the folded edge to the back, and hand stitch in place.
