Intrductin The A-100CGK is a mnphnic keybard with CV and Gate utputs. The main applicatin is the cntrl f an A-100 system but even ther mdular systems r synthesizers can be cntrlled prvided that they use the 1V/ctave standard. In additin the A-100CGK has a Midi utput. The A-100CGK is a available as a ready built device with black metal case and a fur ctave keybard r as an OEM mdule. The OEM mdule cntains nly the electrnics kit and can be cmbined with any Fatar keybed with 2, 3, 4 r 5 ctaves (e.g. TP/6, TP/60, TP/7, TP/8S, TP/8O, TP/9). Fr these versins we d nt ffer a suitable case. Rather the case has t be built by the custmer. It's als pssible t install the OEM versin with a suitable keybed (max. 4 ctaves) int the tp cver f the A-100 Mnster Base. Sme f the available Fatar keybeds are listed n the accessry page n ur website www.depfer.cm > prducts > accessries. The cmplete verview f all keybeds can be fund n the Fatar website www.fatar.cm. All Fatar keybeds with up t 5 ctaves can be cmbined with the A-100CGK OEM kit (lnger keybed are nt pssible). These are the mst imprtant features f the A-100CGK (ready built versin): slightly weighted fur ctaves keybed TP/9 with velcity and mnphnic aftertuch black aluminium case with white printing available in/utputs: CV1: cntrlled by the currently pressed key, 1V/ctave standard, 0...+5V range (5 ctaves) CV2: cntrlled by the velcity, 0...+5V range CV3: cntrlled by the after-tuch sensr, ~ 0...+2.5V range Gate: 0/+5V (can be changed internally t 0/+U r S-Trig, +U = vltage f the used pwer supply, as fr this mdificatin the case has t be penden it shuld be carried ut by a specalized service center) Midi In (s far nt used) Midi Out (nly channel 1, with velcity, 0V CV1 crrespnds t Midi nte number 36) 9V DC (fr supply with an external wall utlet adapter, 7...12V are pssible) 9 pin sub-d cnnectr with CV1, CV2, CV3, Gate, Midi Out and supply vltage (t establish a cnnectin t the A-100 with ne cable nly and pwer the A- 100CGK frm the A-100 frame, a suitable adapter mdule is in the planning stage)

available menus/buttns with LEDs Mde: selects the key fr CV1 when mre than ne key is perated ar the same time lwest key pririty highest key pririty last key pririty Transpse, 2 different transpse mdes can be selected in the cnfiguratin menu 0/+1 ctave r 0...+12 semitnes Retrigger: this parameter cntrls the Gate behaviur while legat play (i.e. when a key is perated while anther ne is already pressed), 0 means that the Gate is nt reset in this case, 1...20 defines different reset times in millisecnds. This is necessary frm ur experience as sme ADSR generatrs require a lnger reset time t be retriggered. Fr the A-100 envelpe generatrs (e.g. A-140) setting "1" is OK, i.e. shrtest reset time is sufficient. Fr ther envelpe generatrs the minimum reset time has t be tried ut. Hld: If this key is perated the Gate is held even if the key is released Up/Dwn: buttns t increase/decrease the value f the currently selected menu. In additin the value f the selected parameter can be increased by perating the crrespnding menu buttn again. additinal basic parameters are adjusted in a special cnfiguratin mde and include parameters that are nrmally fixed, i.e. they are nt changed during the play. The cnfiguratin mde is selected if the up r dwn buttn is held dwn during pwer n: keybed type (2/3/4/5 ctaves, necessary fr transpse and ffset ptins, has t be set t "4" fr the ready built versin) transpse mde (0/+1 ctave r 0...+12 semitnes) Gate plarity (useful if an inverted Gate behaviur is required, e.g. fr Mg synthesizers r systems) An external pwer supply (7-12VDC@min. 250mA) is used. Within Eurpa the wall utlet pwer supply adapter fr 230V mains vltage and Eurpean type mains plug is included with the A-100CGK. In ther cuntries the pwer supply has t be purchased by the user in his cuntry. If there is a Depfer representative in yur cuntry (see dealer link n ur website) please ask the representative if the pwer supply is included in yur cuntry. fur 80 cm A-100 patch cables are included t cnnect the fur utputs f the A- 100CGK t the A-100 system. If yur system uses 1/4" jack sckets special cables (3.5 mm t 1/4" jack plug) have t be rdered separately. These cables can be fund in the accessries sectin f the price list n ur website. As sn as the A-100CGK adapter mdule is available the keybard can be pwered frm the A-100 system. In this case n external pwer supply adapter is necessary. The adapter mdule is in the planning stage. Dimensins: ~ 790 length x 200 depth x 65 height, measures in mm (ready built versin with ctaves keybed and metal case) weight: ~ 4.5 kg (ready built versin with ctaves keybed and metal case)

Cnnectins ❽ 9V DC (pwer supply) A-100CGK Rear view A-100CGK des nt have a built-in pwer supply. Instead it uses a plug-in type external pwer supply (AC adapter). One reasn fr this feature is electrical safety. Keeping danger vltages (mains) ut f the A-100CGK increases the electrical safety. Anther reasn fr the external pwer supply is the fact that line vltages and plug types vary cnsiderably frm cuntry t cuntry. Using a plug-in external supply the A-100CGK can be used anywhere with a lcally purchased pwer supply, thus keeping the retail price dwn. In Germany a VDE apprved pwer supply is included with the A-100CGK. In ther cuntries a pwer supply with suitable mains vltage and mains cnnectr has t be purchased separately by the user prvided that the dealer resp. representative des nt enclse the pwer suppy. The pwer supply must be able t deliver 7-12 VDC unstabilized vltage, as well as a minimum current f 250mA. The crrect plarity f the DC vltage cnnectr is: utside ring = GND, inside lead = +7...12V. An external pwer supply f high quality and safety shuld be used. The A-100CGK is switched ON by plugging the AC adapter int a wall utlet and cnnecting it t the apprpriate jack f the A-100CGK. There is n separate ON/OFF switch. If the plarity f the pwer supply is incrrect, the A-100CGK will nt functin. Hwever, there is n danger f damage t the circuitry since it is prtected by a dide. Midi Out This scket utputs the infrmatin generated by the A-100CGK in additin as midi messages n midi channel 1. Plyphnic nte n/ff messages with velcity and mnphnic after-tuch messages are generated. The A-100CGK was nt planned as a midi keybard but the midi utput can be used t cntrl ther A-100 devices where midi nte n/ff data are used (e.g. the planned keybard/sequencer cntrller r an analg arpeggiatr with midi input). 0V cntrl vltage at utput CV1 crrespnds t midi nte number 36. Midi In This cnnectin is nt used s far.

A-100 Cnnectr This 9 pin sub-d cnnectr can be used t establish the cnnectin between the A- 100CGK and an A-100 system with ne cable nly by means f the planned A- 100CGK adapter mdule. The cnnectr carries the signals Gate, CV1, CV2, CV3 and midi ut. In additin the A-100CGK is pwered by the pwer supply f the A-100 system if the adapter bard is used. The pwer supply cnnectr is then n lnger used. Gate This 3,5 mm jack scket is the gate utput f the A-100CGK. Accrding t the chsen gate plarity (psitive r negative) and gate vltage (+5V, pwer supply vltage r S-Trig) the crrespnding gate signal is available at this scket. Usually this scket is cnnected t the gate input(s) f the envelpe generatr(s), e.g. ADSR's A-140, A-141 r A-143-2. If mre than ne envelpe generatr has t be triggered a multiple (A-180) r bus access mdule (A-185-1) can be used. Fr details please refer t the user manual f the crrespnding mdule. The gate utput can be used fr ther applicatins t: e.g. advance t the next step f an analg (A-155) r gate/trigger sequencer (A-160/161) r sequential switch (A- 151, A-152), cntrlling a vltage cntrlled switch (A-150), triggering a sampler mdule (A-112), resetting an LFO (A-145) and many mre. In general the gate utput can be used t cntrl any gate r trigger input f an A-100 mdule. In additin the gate utput can be prcessed e.g. by a slew limiter (A-170, A-171) t btain a slwly increasing r decreasing cntrl vltage that can be used t cntrl ther mdules, e.g. the frequency f a VCLFO (A-147), r the amplificatin f a VCA (A-130/131/132) t btain increasing/decreasing levels (audi r CV, e.g. LFO depth fr frequency mdulatin). Even the usage f the gate signal as a CV input can be useful (e.g. switching between tw different frequencies f a VCLFO A-147). CV1 This 3,5 mm jack scket is the cntrl vltage utput f the A-100CGK that is cntrlled by the number f the key pressed n the keybard. The vltage range is 0...+5V, the scale is 1V/ctave. Inside the device there is a trimming ptentimeter that can be used t re-adjust the scale if necessary. As the case has t be pened fr this the prcedure shuld be carried ut by a specialized cmpany nly. Usually this scket is cnnected t the 1V/ct CV input(s) f the vltage cntrlled scillatr(s) (VCO's), e.g. A-110 r A-111-1/2. Even CV input f the sampler mdule A-112 can be cntrlled t play a recrded sample with the keybard. If the filter used in the patch shuld fllw the VCO frequency (called keybard tracking) the CV1 has t be cnnected t the filter mdule t. If mre than ne VCO/VCF has t be cntrlled a multiple (A-180) can be used fr signal distributin. If mre than tw VCO/VCFs have t be cnnected t the CV1 utput f the A-100CGK a bus access mdule (A-185-1) r precisin adder mdule (A-185-2) is recmmended instead f a simple multiple t avid signal lsses that may cause scale r tuning prblems. Fr details please refer t the user manual f the crrespnding mdule.

CV2 This 3,5 mm jack scket is the cntrl vltage utput f the A-100CGK that is cntrlled by the velcity f the key pressed n the keybard. The vltage range is 0...+5V. There are n fixed rules hw t cnnect this scket t CV inputs f A-100 mdules. Fr example it can be cnnected t the CV input f a VCA (vltage cntrlled amplifier, e.g. A-130, A-131, A-132-x) t cntrl the ludness f a patch by the keybard velcity. But it can be used als t cntrl the frequency f a VCF (vltage cntrlled filter), the temp f a VCLFO (e.g. A-147), the mdulatin depth f an LFO r ADSR (via an VCA), the left/right panning (A-134), r t cntrl any ther vltage cntrlled parameter f an A-100 mdule. ❽ CV3 This 3,5 mm jack scket is the cntrl vltage utput f the A-100CGK that is cntrlled by the after tuch sensr f the keybard. Even fr this CV utput there are n fixed rules hw t cnnect it t A-100 mdules. The same remarks as fr CV2 are valid. The After-Tuch sensr is a pressure sensr that is psitined belw the keys f the keybard. It can be used t generate an additinal vltage that is cntrlled by the pressure applied t the currently pressed key. The sensr is nt very sensitive (e.g. cmpared t the pressure sensr f the A-198/R2M manual). We have n influence t the sensitivity f the sensr as it is installed by the keybard manufacturer (Fatar). Yu shuld treat it as a free add-n.

Operatin A-100CGK is switched n by plugging the AC adapter int a wall utlet and cnnecting it t the apprpriate pwer supply scket. There is n separate ON/OFF switch. After pwer n the six LEDs will light up fr a shrt time and the display shws the sftware versin (e.g. 100 fr versin 1.00). Otherwise the AC adapter used is nt suitable, has the wrng plarity r des nt wrk. Cntrls Display: 3 digit LED display Six buttns with crrespnding LEDs: fur t select a menu (MODE, TRANSP., RETRIG., HOLD) tw as up/dwn buttns (UP, DOWN) A menu is activated by pressing the crrespnding menu buttn. The active menu is indicated by an illuminated LED. The up/dwn buttns are used t increase/decrease the value f the currently selected parameter. In additin the value f the currently selected parameter can be increased by pressing the menu buttn in questin again. T exit a menu anther menu buttn has t be pressed.

These menus are available: MODE This menu is used t select the assign mde, i.e. the rule which key is used t generate the cntrl vltage CV1 if tw r mre keys are perated at the same time. Older mnphnic synthesizers had nrmally ne fixed assign mde. In the A- 100CGK ne can select between these three assign mdes: Display Functin Explanatin HIP Hight Nte Plarity The highest currently pressed key is used t generate CV1. LOP Lwt Nte Plarity The lwest currently pressed key is used t generate CV1. LSt Last Nte Plarity The last f the currently pressed key is used t generate CV1. TRANSP. This menu is used t transpse the keybard. Accrding t the transpse type selected in the cnfiguratin mde (ctave r semitne, see belw) the transpsitin is made in ctave r semitne intervals. The display shws the transpsitin in semitnes: ctave type transpsitin: 0 r 12 (+ ne ctave) semitne type transpsitin: 0, 1, 2, 3 t 12 (+ 1, 2, 3, 12 semitnes) Remark: Fr the OEM versins f the A-100CGK the transpsitin ranges are different accrding t the keybard type: 2 ctaves keybard: 0 t 36 3 ctaves keybard: 0 t 24 4 ctaves keybard: 0 t 12 (same as described abve) 5 ctaves keybard: n transpsitin pssible The reasn fr the different transpse ranges is the vltage range f CV1 (0...+5V). This crrespnds t 5 ctaves verall range. RETRIG. This menu is used t adjust the behaviur f the gate utput in legat play (i.e. when a secnd key is perated while the first ne is held dwn). The value shwn in the display is the reset time f the gate utput in millisecnds when anther key is perated. If this parameter is set t zer n reset appears, i.e. an ADSR type envelpe generatr triggered by the gate signal remains in the sustain state. If the parameter is set t a value 1 20 the gate utput is reset fr a shrt time (the value shwn in the display in millisecnds) when anther key is pressed. In this case the envelpe generatr is triggered again. Fr all envelpe generatrs f the A-100 the value 1 (i.e. 1 millisecnd) is sufficient fr retrigger. If ther envelpe generatrs are cnnected ne has t find ut the minimum reset time fr retrigger by trial and errr. HOLD When this buttn is perated the gate utput is set t high n matter if a key is pressed r nt. The hld functin is displayed by the fur menu LEDs. These light up whenever the hld functin is active. If the hld buttn is perated again the hld functin is cancelled.

Cnfiguratin Mde: Adjustment f basic parameters Remark: If yu have rdered the A-100CGK with metal case and 4 ctaves keybard, and want t use it in cmbinatin with the A-100 system it is nt necessary t call up the cnfiguratin mde as the factry settings are chsen exactly fr this applicatin unless yu want t change the transpse type. Additinal basic parameters are adjusted in a special cnfiguratin mde and include parameters that are nrmally fixed, i.e. they are nt changed during the play. The cnfiguratin mde is selected if the up r dwn buttn is held dwn during pwer n. The cnfiguratin mde is indicated by CF in the display. In additin all LEDs light up. T adjust a parameter the crrespnding menu buttn has t be perated. Then the crrespnding LED turns ff while all ther LEDs remain n (i.e. inverse LED display cmpared t the nrmal mde). The up/dwn buttns are used t increase/decrease the value f the currently selected parameter. T exit a menu anther menu buttn has t be pressed. The fur menu buttns are assigned t these basic parameters: MODE This cnfiguratin menu is used t adjust the number f ctaves f the keybard. Fr the standard versin with metal case and 4 ctaves keybard the value has t be set t 4 (factry setting). Fr the OEM versin the crrespnding ctave length has t be chsen: 2, 3, 4 r 5. This adjustment is necessary t select the crrect nte ffset and t limit the transpse range fr different keybards. The factry setting is 4. TRANSP. This cnfiguratin menu is used t select the type f transpse: Oct transpse in ctave intervals (i.e. 12 semitnes) SEM transpse in semitne intervals The factry setting is Oct. RETRIG. This cnfiguratin menu is used t select the plarity f the gate signal: POS psitive gate plarity NEG negative gate plarity If psitive plarity is chsen the gate scket utputs a psitive vltage when a key is pressed. The gate vltage turns t 0V when n key is perated. If negative plarity is selected the behaviur is the ppsite, i.e. 0V when a key is perated and a psitive vltage when n key is pressed. The A-100 and mst f ther synthesizers r systems wrk with psitive gate plarity. Sme synthesizers r systems (e.g. Mg) require a negative plarity. If the device cnnected t the A-100CGK wrks ppsite (i.e. the sund disappears when a key is pressed and is triggered if a key is released) the gate plarity has t be changed. In additin the gate vltage depends upn the internal jumper setting (+5V, supply vltage r S-Trig). As the case has t be pened fr this the prcedure shuld be carried ut by a specialized cmpany nly. The jumper fr the gate vltage is lcated just behind the gate scket. It can be installed in tw different psitins: twards the 9 pin sub-d scket gate vltage = supply vltage (e.g. +9V) twards the transistr gate vltage = +5V

If the jumper is remved the gate utput has S-Trig r switching trigger functin, i.e. the gate terminal is cnnected t GND (instead f a vltage utput). This functin have mst f the Mg devices. But frm ur experience they wrk als with +5V gate vltage and inverted gate plarity s that it is nt necessary t change the jumper setting (withut bligatin). If the device cnnected t the gate utput uses vltage gate but des nt trigger prbably the level f the gate vltage is nt sufficient.
