Just keep on sewing --- you will not end up with a thread jam! Cut along the marked line with your rotary cutter. Press. Place all the square triangles, but two, on a flat surface. Piece one of each of the center square triangles together. Use your Husqvarna Viking Changeable ¼ Guide Foot to get a perfect ¼ seam allowance. Press. Make two rectangles. Assembly Instructions Start with the center block. It consists of nine blocks 6 ½ x 6 ½ (16.5x16.5cm). It measures a total of 18½ x 18½ (47 x 47cm). Place a block fabric 2 and 3 right side together. Mark a line diagonally with a Pictogram Pen. Sew with a straight stitch ¼ (6mm) measuring from the marked line. Use Husqvarna Viking Changeable Dual Feed Foot with Guide and sew on both sides along the line. Join the two rectangles to create the center unit. Always stitch with a straight stitch and use your Changeable ¼ Guide Foot. Press. Place a block of fabric 1 and 2 right sides together. Follow the same instructions as above. Make 4 of these color square triangles. Cut along the marked line with your rotary cutter. Press. Continue to assemble parts of the star block by arranging the center unit, square triangles and corner block. Sew components of the block together so you get a total of five blocks. Press and fine cut. Cut along the marked line with your rotary cutter. Press. Place these two square triangles on a flat surface. You have started to make your quilt! Place a block of fabric 1 and 3 right sides together. Follow the same instructions as above. Make ten of these color square triangles. Sew a chain of squares with your Husqvarna Viking sewing machine. 2
Now it is time for the star points. Take a rectangular piece of fabric 4 and a square block of fabric 2. Place them wrong sides together. Sew a straight stitch diagonally as seen on Illustration A. Cut along the seam line using a ¼ (6mm) seam allowance, save the scrap triangles for other projects. Make four of each rectangle. It is very helpful to mark a line diagonally with a Pictogram Pen before sewing. Sew with your Changeable Quilter s Guide Foot. A) 4x Cut the first two rows of the small border strips 2 (5cm) longer than your quilt measures. Add two of the small border strips to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press and fine cut. Add the other two small border strips to the sides of the center unit. Press and fine cut. Take one square of fabric 7 and four smaller squares of fabric 6. Place one square in the upper left corner and another square at the bottom right hand corner. Sew diagonally on the squares with a straight stitch. Cut and press. Place the other two smaller squares at the opposite corners. Sew diagonally on the squares. Cut and press. Make 12 of these. Mark the diagonal line with your Pictogram Pen before sewing. B) 4x Join the pointed rectangles; make sure you are butting seam intersections for a snug fit. Press. Fine cut all the 9 blocks if necessary so they have approximately the same size. Each block should measure approximately 6½ x 6½ (16.5 x 16.5 cm). Make four rows with three of the border blocks in each. Press. Stitch two of the rows on the top and bottom of your quilt top. Press. Fine cut. Assemble the rest of the star on a flat surface. Sew components of each row together. Make sure you are mitering the corners. Press seam allowances. Join the red corner block to the last two rows. Press. Fine cut. Join the last two rows to either side of your quilt. Fine cut the edges of the quilt with a rotary cutter if necessary. 3
Layer your quilt top, batting and backing (fabric 8) creating a quilt sandwich. Make sure it is flat and even. Measure the backing fabric with a seam allowance of 1½ (4 cm) then use a rotary cutter to make the seam allowance even. Mark and measure where the hanging sleeve should be stitched on to the back. Approx. 2 (5 cm) from the top edge and the sides. Now you know where to place your hanging sleeve so it doesn t interfere with the quilting later on. Layer the backing to the sandwich. Match the marking on the backing. Safety pin-baste the quilt through the layers. Mark the right hand corner of the star through to the backing fabric. Now you know where to place your label so it doesn t interfere with the quilting later on. Measure your quilt top edge. Cut a 4 (10cm) wide strip of fabric 8, as long as the quilt s top edge. Fold right sides together. Sew ¼ from raw edges. Turn inside out. Press. Fold the edges approx. ½ (1cm) into the channel. Press. Fold the backing edges twice, second fold over the quilt top. Pin and press. Snap on your Changeable Quilter s ¼ Guide Foot. Stitch the folded binding in place on the top and bottom of your quilt. Place the sleeve along the markings on the backing fabric. Pin and stitch with a straight stitch. Make sure the ends of the channel finish before where the binding will be. Take the backing fabric and hoop with Tear-Away Stabilizer and embroider your label. Layer the quilt top and batting. Safety pin-baste the quilt through the layers. Snap on your Changeable Quilter s Guide Foot and thread your machine with Robison-Anton metallic thread and red bobbin. Select a straight stitch and quilt in the ditch of the seams where you will sew the hanging sleeve and embroidered label on the backing. This is to prevent the quilt from sagging in those areas. Make sure you fold all the way out to the corner to get a nice finish of the binding. Fold the sides of the quilt as described above. Stitch the folded binding in place. Snap on your Changeable Quilter s Guide Foot and thread your machine with Robison-Anton metallic thread and red bobbin. Select a straight stitch and quilt in the ditch of the seams starting with the center piece and work your way out to the edges of the quilt. Press your quilt carefully. Happy Holidays! 4
