Stuffing Head: With blue yarn: - Cast on (CO) 16 sts - Knit 4 rows in Stocking stitch (St. st.) starting with a K row - 5th row, right side (RS): K1, inc 1 in each stitch, K1= 30 sts - 11 th row RS: K1, inc 1 st in each st until last st, K1= 58 sts - Work 25 rows even - 37 th row, RS: K1, K2tog until last stitch, K1= 30 sts - 43 rd row, RS: K1, K2tog until last stitch, K1= 16 sts - Do not bind off, insert yarn through remaining sts and tighten up. - The opening will be on top - Sew the back on the head seam and stuff - Thread some yarn through CO stitches and tighten. Nose - CO 10 sts - Beginning with a K row, K 6 rows of St. st. - 7 th row, RS: K1, Inc 1 in each st, K1 = 18 sts - Work 7 rows even - 15 th row, RS: K1, K2tog until last st, K1= 10 sts - Do not bind off, thread yarn through remaining sts and tighten - Sew nose seam - Thread some yarn through CO sts and tighten - Sew nose on face, slightly lower than the mid-point to leave space for the eyes. - (The Cast on edge is sewn against the face of the Smurf) 2

Hat White Yarn - Cast on 65 sts - Starting with a K row, work 6 rows of St. st. - 7 th row, RS: K1, *K2tog, K2*, repeat from * to * until the end of the row (you should end with K2) = 49 sts - Work 7 rows even - 15 th row, RS: K1, * K2tog, K1*, repeat from *to* until the end of the row, (your should end with a K1) = 33 sts - Work 25 rows even - 41 st row, RS: K1, K2tog until the last two sts, K2 = 18 sts - 47 th row, RS: K1, K2tog until last st, K1 = 10 sts - Do not bind off, thread yarn through remaining sts and tighten. - Sew seam (seam will face front on head) the tip of the hat lightly - Place hat on head and sew a few mm from the edge, so that the edge of the hat rolls slightly and hides the joining seam - Fold hat top towards the front and secure in place with a stitch. Ears - CO 5 sts - Starting with a K row, work 2 rows of stocking st. - 3 rd row, RS: Inc. 1 st, one st from the edge on both sides = 7 sts - 4 th row: Purl - 5 th row, RS: Inc. 1 st, one st from the edge on both sides = 9 sts - 6 th row: Purl - 7 th row, RS: Inc. 1 st, one st from the edge on both sides = 11 sts - 13 th row, RS: Dec. 1 st, one st from the edge on both sides = 9 sts - 14 th row: Purl 3

Bottom of ear should be at the same level as the mid-way point between the nose and the mouth and the top of the ear will be over the bonnet. - Make the second one the same way Body - Cast on 16 sts - Work 4 rows of St. st. starting with a K row - 5 th row, RS: K1, Inc. 1 st in each st, K1 = 30 sts - 11 th row, RS: K1, Inc. 1 st every other st until last 2 sts, K2 = 44 sts - Work 21 rows even - 23 row, RS: K2, Inc. 1 st every 3 rd st until last 2 sts, K2 = 58 sts - 24 th row: Purl - 25 th row, RS: Start working with WHITE YARN from here until the end of the body. Knit to end of row. 4

(Continued: body) - Work 9 rows even - 35 th row, RS; K1, K2tog until last st, K1 = 30 sts - 41 st row, RS: K1, K2tog until last st, K1 = 16 sts - Do not bind off; thread yarn through remaining sts and tighten. - The opening will be at the top - Sew back seam - Thread some yarn through CO sts and tighten - Sew body to head firmly. Legs White Yarn - CO 10 sts - Starting with a K row, work 2 rows of St. st. - 3 rd row, RS: K1, Inc. 1 st in each st, K1 = 18 sts - Work 17 rows even - 21 st row, RS: K1, K2tog until last st, K1 = 10 sts - Work 2 rows even - Bind off, - Sew the inside seam of the leg. - Make the second leg the same way. 5

Feet White Yarn - CO 16 sts - Starting with a K row, work 4 rows of St. st. - 5 th row, RS: K1, Inc. 1 st in each st until last st, K1 =30 sts - Work 25 rows even. - 31 st row, RS: K1, K2tog until last st, K1 = 16 sts - Work 4 rows even. Cast off. - Sew seams, then run a running stitch through Cast on and Cast off sts, do not tighten or tie off one end, stuff, then tighten running thread and tie off. - Make a second foot the same way Tail Blue yarn - CO 7 sts - Work 2 rows of St. st., starting with a K row - 3 rd row, RS: K1, Inc. 1 st in each st until last st, K1 - Bind off - Sew seam under tail - Thread some yarn through CO sts and tighten - The tail will look like a thimble lightly and sew on the Smurf s behind. Arms/hands - We will start at the tip of the hands - CO 22 sts - Starting with a K row, St. st. 10 rows 6

(continued, Arms/hands) - 11 th row, RS: CO 5 sts, K22 sts, CO 5 sts (sts are cast on each side of the piece to make the thumbs) = 32 sts - Work 6 rows even (Start with Purl row, end with K row) - 18 th row, WS: Bind off 7 sts at each end, you have 18 sts left. (In Purl) - Join yarn and work 18 rows even - 37 th row, RS: K1, K2tog until last st, K1 = 10 sts - Work 2 rows even - Thread yarn in remaining sts, and put on hold. (do not tighten at this stage, this will be the stuffing hole) - Make hand and arm seam - Tighten the sts on hold - Make a second arm the same way - With yarn, embroider hand to define fingers - Define wrists by wrapping some yarn around and tightening lightly. Finishing - Cut some eyes in white felt and pupils in black felt and back stitch on face. - Embroider mouth - Sew and stuff feet and sew on legs, sew legs on body - Sew arms and tail on body - With a stitch, secure back of ears on bonnet to avoid the Dumbo effect.
