1 Courtesy of Simplicity Creative Group Project inspired by The Beekeeper's Quilt by Tiny Owl Knits ( MATERIALS #4 Worsted Weight Yarn: Background color: Approximately 20 yds [18 m] for each ornament. Accent colors: 1 yd [1 m] will make about 24 Duplicate Stitches. Refer to photos and charts (on pages 3-8) for colors used in each ornament Boye Knitting Needles, Size 7 (4.5 mm) Fiberfill Tapestry or yarn needle with blunt tip GAUGE 18 sts x 24 rows = 4 [10 cm] on size US 7 [4.5 mm] needles Gauge is not critical for this project. ABBREVIATIONS k-knit; rep-repeat; RS-right side; st(s)-stitch(es) SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS M1R (make one with right slant): Insert left needle from back to front under the horizontal strand between the last stitch worked on the right needle and the next stitch to be worked on the left needle; knit this strand through the front loop. M1L (make one with left slant): Insert left needle from front to back under the horizontal strand between the last stitch worked on the right needle and the next stitch to be worked on the left needle; knit this stitch through the back loop. K2tog (decrease with right slant): knit 2 stitches together SSK (decrease with left slant): slip two stitches knitwise one at a time onto right needle. Insert left needle into the front of the slipped stitches from left to right and knit. DIRECTIONS ORNAMENT With Background Color, cast on 10 sts. Row 1 (RS): Knit. Row 2 and all even numbered rows: Purl. Row 3: K1, M1R, K to last st, M1L, K1 12 sts. Rows 5-11: Rep Row 3 on all odd numbered rows 20 sts at the end of Row 11. Row 13: K1, SSK, K to last 2 sts, K2tog 18 sts. Rows 15-21: Rep Row 13 on all odd numbered rows 10 sts at the end of Row 21. Row 22: Purl. Rows 23-42: Rep Rows Bind off loosely in knit leaving a long tail for sewing side seam. DECORATION Choose your favorite design then follow the chart to embroider the design on the ornament using Duplicate Stitch. Count the rows and stitches to be sure you center the design as shown. FINISHED MEASUREMENTS One Size: Approximately 4 [10 cm] wide x 4 [10 cm] high when stuffed (To create other sizes, use lighter or heavier weight yarn).

2 Courtesy of Simplicity Creative Group Project inspired by The Beekeeper's Quilt by Tiny Owl Knits ( To make duplicate stitch: Thread yarn onto a blunt yarn or tapestry needle and work one duplicate stitch (see illustration below) over each knit stitch as shown in your chart. As with regular embroidery, do not leave knots. To start and end a color, weave it through several stitches on the wrong side of the fabric. Accent stitches, illustrated by a straight line on the pirate chart, were made using Outline Stitch. See illustration below. FINISHING Fold ornament with right sides together and sew sides. Turn ornament right side out and gently stuff with fiberfill. Sew top closed. Use scrap yarn to make hanger in center top.
