1 Intrductin SARMAP Versin 7 is the latest in search and rescue trajectry mdeling sftware frm RPS ASA. SARMAP v7 includes many enhancements and added features t help imprve search and rescue respnse and exercises. SARMAP v7 has undergne majr updates t include enhanced functinality thrugh industry driven research and develpment frm cast guard and gvernment agencies. This dcument describes the varius new features included in SARMAP V7. 1.1 Operating System Cmpatibility One f the mst ntable features f Versin 7 is that all f the RPS ASA MAP applicatins, SARMAP, OILMAP, and CHEMMAP are nw Windws 10 cmpatible. SARMAP is currently supprted n the fllwing Micrsft Windws platfrms: Windws 10, 8, 7, and Windws Server 2012. 1.2 SARMAP Interface Mdel Layers Search Patterns Predicted SAR Area SRU and Resurce GIS Layers TimeSlider and Real-Time Data Links CMAP Nautical Charts Or Basemap Figure 1 SARMAP v7 The updated Graphic User Interface (GUI) 1
2 SARMAP v7 Enhancements Intrductin A number f new enhancements t SARMAP are included in the latest release f the SARMAP search and rescue planning sftware. The develpments primarily relate t Search and Rescue Unit (SRU) asset deplyment features, as well as the live layers feature which allws the user t visualize different infrmatin (i.e. weather r sea temperature) n the base map within a scenari. A summary f the develpments is indicated belw: 2.1 SRU Deplyment Different pint f departure and pint f return fr SRU assets this allws the SRU deplyment planning t incrprate differing start and end pints fr each f the SRU deplyments. Day time search nly this feature calculates whether it is daytime r nighttime when the user enters the search start time. If the search will be cmpleted during daylight hurs the system will allw the search t be carried ut, if nt, it will hld ff the search until first light the fllwing day. Nte: this is a user selectable ptin and can be switched ff if searching is required t be carried ut during nighttime hurs. Flanking SRU search this allws the user t deply vessels either side f the main SRU vessel; this is dne t imprve the prbability f success (POS) fr a particular search. Revised GPX exprting t make tasking SRU s easier 2.1.1 Pint f SRU Departure/Return Previusly search planning required the Search and Rescue Unit (SRU) t deply and return t the same lcatin. Hwever this may nt always be reflective f reality, and there can be situatins where an SRU may need t return t a lcatin that is nt its hme base, r it may nt be at its hme base t begin with and may need t deply frm anther lcatin befre returning t its hme base. This latest enhancement t SARMAP makes it pssible t deply an SRU frm ne lcatin (pint f departure) and then specify a different return lcatin (pint f return). 2
Hw t use: First, a new drift scenari has t be setup and run t btain the search area. Next, the SARMAP user must deply an SRU (as wuld have nrmally been dne), by simply right clicking n the SRU t be deplyed and selecting Deply SRU. Then fill in each tab n the SRU deplyment card. On the secnd tab (Endurance) the user will be able t readily identify the new Pint f Departure and Pint f Return capability. The user can add the latitude and lngitude f each pint by manually typing in the crdinates in the space prvided, r Alternatively the crsshair icn can be used t select the pints by clicking n the map. A sample f such a deplyment is shwn in Figure 2 belw. This shws a plane deplyed frm Whangarei, which then deplys t the nrthwestern crner f the search area (B), cmpletes a search frm nrth twards the suth, and finishes the search in the sutheastern crner (D), befre returning t Waipu (shwn next t the Hel-1 icn). Figure 2 SARMAP v7 Asset deplyed frm Whangarei t the nrthwestern crner f the search area (B), which then cmpletes a search frm nrth twards the suth, and finishes the search in the sutheastern crner (D), befre returning t Waipu in the suth. 3
2.1.2 Daylight Searching A cmmn issue that search and rescue peratrs face is the inability t effectively search fr lst bjects at night resulting in searches nly being carried ut during daylight hurs. The SARMAP asset deplyment has been updated t assist peratrs with this deplyment schema by limiting the available search perid t daylight hurs. This functin will calculate the sunrise and/r sunset time and limit the search time t accunt fr a day time search. Previusly there was n autmated cntrl ver whether the search ccurred during daylight r at night time, and s the user had t carefully determine the search area and times t crrelate with day time hurs if this was an peratinal cnsideratin. Hw t use: First, a new drift scenari has t be setup and run t btain the search area. Once the search area has been cmputed, the SARMAP user must deply an SRU, by simply right clicking n the SRU t be deplyed and selecting Deply SRU. Then fill in each tab n the SRU deplyment card. On the final tab (Search Area) the user will be able t readily identify the new Day Time Search Only capability. The user can set the search area t either their wn User defined search area, r Set the search area t the Current Mdel Search Area, Then select the Day Time Search Only tick bx, and click Apply. As can be seen in Figure 3 belw the search was set t start at 04/07/2015 04:00 GMT. As the sample lcatin fr this incident is in New Zealand (where the time zne is GMT+12) it wuld be day light (16:00 lcal) fr the search t take place and hence SARMAP calculates that it can carry ut the search. If the search start date/time is then changed t 04/07/2015 07:00 GMT (which is 19:00 Lcal), as indicated in Figure 4, SARMAP determines that it is utside daylight hurs, and the search is delayed until first light the fllwing day (04/07/2015 20:00 GMT, which is 05/07/2015 08:00 Lcal). It is als pssible t deply in regin time zne. 4

2.1.3 Flanking Asset Search The third search planning enhancement is the SRU Flanking search. This new functinality allws the user t autmatically deply vessels either side f the main SRU vessel within a search area; this is dne t imprve the prbability f success (POS) fr a particular search by enabling tighter track spacing than what wuld be pssible with a single SRU asset. On the third tab (Search Pattern) the user will be able t readily identify the new Flanking Search capability. Enter the Track Spacing (S) t be used fr all f the vessels in this search. Nte: the Suggested Sweep Width (W) is indicated abve the Track Spacing. Fr a Cverage (C) f 1.0, the Track Spacing shuld be the same as the Suggested Sweep Width. The user can then change the Number f Flanking Assets using the arrws up and dwn t change the number. Once the Number f Flanking Assets has been selected, click Apply t update the POD, POC and POS. Nte: The deplyment assumes the same cnfiguratin fr all flanking vessels, based n the riginal/main deplyed SRU. Things like search speed, start lcatin, end lcatin, vessel type, endurance and range are all assumed t be the same. 6
Figure 5 SARMAP v7 Example SRU deplyment. Black track line shws the main SRU deplyment, dashed lines shw the subsequent flanking assets. There are tw flanking assets included in this figure. 2.1.4 Revised GPX Exprting As a result f the SRU flanking deplyment, the GPX exprting feature has been revised. The revisins enable the user t: Assign their wn file name Flanking vessels are included, and exprted as additinal GPX files, each ne is appended with _1 r _2 etc. depending n the vessel number. 7
2.2 Live Data Additinal weather and ceangraphic details are nw able t be displayed n the screen under the present scenari. These layers are autmatically updated thrugh a live web link. Fr additinal infrmatin cntact us at MapSupprt@ 2.2.1 Live Data Layers The Live Data feature in SARMAP has recently undergne extensive develpment t include several new surces f data, which greatly imprves functinality within SARMAP as an incident respnse planning tl. Cllabratin with the Australian Bureau f Meterlgy (BM) has led t the inclusin f several useful layers being included int the SARMAP system, which can be verlaid n the electrnic map. The Live Data layers can be fund in the third tab n the left f the map windw (see figure t the right). Nte: It is imprtant t nte that the data cntained in the Live Data layers is valid fr the current pint in time (i.e. real time) and des NOT crrelate t the timeslider r the timing f the currently pen scenari. The Live Data layers are autmatically updated based n the mst up t date data that is available n the server the data is being surced frm. N histrical data is stred r available frm the Live Data servers. The date stamp that the live data layer relates t is displayed as text in the lwer left crner f the map windw. Nte: this date/time stamp is in UTC. Additinal weather and ceangraphic details are nw able t be displayed n the screen under the present scenari. These layers are autmatically updated thrugh a live web link. Self-lcating datum marker buy (SLDMB) drifter lcatins Cming sn 8
2.2.2 AIS vessel tracking data Cming sn Weather and Oceangraphic Infrmatin Layers The live weather and ceangraphic infrmatin layers available frm BM include: Trpical Cyclne Tracks SST (Sea Surface Temperature) Raster SST Cnturs Wind Speed Raster Wind Directin and Speed - Barbs Rainfall Mean Sea Level Pressure Isbars Observed Visibility Satellite Infra Red Greyscale Satellite Infra Red False Clur Satellite Visible Greyscale Satellite Cmpsite True Clur These layers can be accessed by selecting the apprpriate checkbx next t the layer f chice n the Live Data tab. The figure t the right shws the tw BM wind layers (Wind Raster and Wind Barbs) selected. Nte: Mre than ne layer may be selected, hwever as the layers will draw n tp f each ther, it is recmmended that nly assciated layers are displayed tgether (i.e. wind speed raster and wind barbs, r SST raster with SST cnturs). If tw raster layers are verlaid (i.e. SST raster and wind speed raster, the resulting picture may be difficult t interpret. The legend fr specific layers can be brught up by clicking n the arrw symbl next t the layer f chice. This will then shw a flating legend like the ne t the right. This can be psitined either n r ff the map windw, depending n requirements. T mve the legend windw, left click and hld the muse n the windw title (at the tp f the legend windw) and mve it t yur desired lcatin, then release the muse. T clse the legend windw, click n the crss at the tp right f the legend windw. 9

2.2.3 SLDMB Drifter lcatins This tl is designed t shw the Self Lcating Datum Marker Buy (SLDMB) drifters which are deplyed by AMSA, typically during maritime SAR r il spill events. SLDMB drifters are used t grund truth the cean currents, and t determine which cean frecast mdels may be perfrming best at that given time and lcatin. An additinal inclusin is a tl called Mdel Skill, which is used t aut-validate the varius cean current mdels via a skill scre. This can be used t assist with decisin making when deciding which cean current mdels t use. The Mdel Skill uses the SLDMB psitins t run a 1 hur frecast every 6 hurs. This feature is nt yet fully peratinal - cming sn 2.2.4 AIS vessel tracking data Live vessel tracking data is sn t be added t the list f Live Data layers accessible thrugh SARMAP. This functinality will display vessel lcatins fr thse vessels which have AIS (Autmatic Identificatin System) systems transmitting n bard. As well as the vessel s current psitin, the system als shws directin f travel, vessel call sign and vessel state. This feature is nt yet available - cming sn 11
