LRAA March 2018 Newsletter! First Members Meeting of 2018 on Monday, March 19th! WE WILL BE MEETING AT THE LRAA ART GALLERY at the Tanger Outlets in Tilton at 7 PM. Reminder - If you are planning on entering artwork for "Artist of the Month", please bring you piece in by 6:30 pm and register with Melissa Dillier.

"Gaining an Artistic Following Online" presentation by Acacia Rogers Fun and whimsical are two words you can use to describe many of the art pieces Acacia Rogers has created. You might also call it elegant and detailed, or creative and special. But Acacia definitely is coming into her own with a style that is uniquely hers. At just 27 years old, NH resident Acacia has her heart set on making a full-time career of her love for painting. She knew almost from the moment she could grasp a pencil that she had an insatiable love for creating art. Whether she is painting a portrait, still life, landscape, or wildlife in acrylics, watercolor, or oils, Acacia Rogers isn't happy unless she is painting and often feels empty and sad if she isn't painting enough. To see more of her artwork visit her website at acaciarogers.wixsite.com/artist or you can find several of her pieces reproduced on various items at the Fine Art America website. Acacia Rogers will be giving a basic introduction to "gaining an artistic following online at the lowest cost, geared toward those who have little to no marketing and self-promotion experience." Using a computer and projector, Acacia will discuss the "basic how-to's, the

pros and cons, and the sharing capabilities of various online platforms such as social media, YouTube, and websites for selling art prints" or what Acacia refers to as "a beginners crash course in simple and inexpensive self-promotion of your art business in various online platforms." This promises to be a learning experience, particularly for the new and inexperienced artist looking for more ways to promote her art. Reminder: LRAA Membership dues must be received by March 31st in order for you to be eligible to enter the Annual Show to be held in the Summer.

February Free Art Winner at LRAA Gallery Bill Dawson of Northfield, NH was February s lucky winner of the Lakes Region Art Association (LRAA) fine arts drawing for a framed artwork titled, Poppies, by local artist Beverly Shanley. Anyone--18 or over- - can win the monthly drawing by just stopping into the LRAA Art Gallery located at Tanger Outlets and registering for the drawing. Bill and his wife, Florence, visit the Art Gallery quite frequently as they often walk the Outlets as part of a regular exercise routine. They like the opportunity to not only get some exercise in but to do a bit of window shopping at the Outlet stores. One of their favorite stores to

stop into is the LRAA Art Gallery because they not only appreciate art but also enjoy the fact that the gallery exhibits only New Hampshire artists and in particular, Lakes Region artists. Florence likes to buy cards there as well and they often chat with the artists who staff the gallery as they check out the artwork. They recommend that people who appreciate art stop by the gallery to see talent displayed by local artists and appreciate what buying local has to offer in the area of original art and artistic styles. Bev Shanley, the artist of "Poppies", studied charcoal portraits, watercolors, acrylics, and hand building with clay over the past 40 years. She enjoys working with each of these mediums to express her love of local New Hampshire lake scenes, as well as still life. More recently, her work has taken on a more impressionistic feel---a looser and more vibrant way of expressing an idea on canvas. Bev strives to paint each day and is always open to learning as much as possible regarding all art mediums. She feels that she learns something new with each painting she works on. Bev has been a member of the Lakes Region Art Association sine 2014 and a part of the LRAA Art Gallery in Tilton since its inception in late 2015. Thank you Bev for donating your art!

SHOWS: Currently Being Held: Epsom Library Show Artwork located throughout the Library Dates: March 10 thru April 21st Location: Epsom Public Library 1606 Dover St., Epsom, NH Approximately 30 paintings/photographs are on display. Come and see what the artwork submitted by your fellow artists! Artwork for the Taylor Home With the start of our 2018 Members Meetings, it is time to begin thinking about installing new works of art on the wall of our meeting area at the Taylor Home. Please be thinking about what artwork you could bring to the April Members Meeting at the Taylor Home that you would be willing to leave there on the wall for approximately 4-6 months. We are sure that the residents there appreciate having new artworks to look at and enjoy and sometimes even purchase!

Art Happenings Art from the HeART! Twiggs Gallery at 254 King Street in Boscawen, NH is teaming up with the Payson Cancer Center of Concord Hospital on Saturday, May 19 to create a new event: Art from the HeART! No art experience needed, just drop in any time between 12 and 3 p.m. TWIGGS will provide everything you need to make these mini art trading cards (~2.5" x 3.5"). Upon completion, the nurses at the Payson Center will give them out to patients that might need a boost or uplifting. If you have time, please consider joining them in this rewarding effort. Artistic Inspirations Saw this on one of the panels at the gallery and thought it was very worth sharing: When you buy something from an artist.you are buying more than just an object.you are buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation.you re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy,you re not buying just one thing

,You are buying a piece of a heart. a piece of a soul.a small piece of someone else s life Author Unknown Thanks to Paul Beaulieu for sharing the "find" with us! Note: If any of our LRAA members have other artistic related sayings/thoughts, please feel free to submit them as we try to continue this section of the Newsletter on a monthly basis. LRAA Officers Our 2018 Officers are: President: Richard Hartman Vice President: Acacia Rogers Secretary: Shela Cunningham Treasurer: Marlene Witham Board Members: Jini Lambert Stephen Hall
