ESD Prtectin: The HILNA Amplifiers are suitable fr many types f applicatins where ESD susceptibility is prminent. 2.3 HILNA V1 MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS The HILNA V1 is hused in a sleek black andized extruded aluminum enclsure. Figure 3 shws the mechanical utline f the HILNA V1 with the ptinal munting flanges. 3 INSTALLING, CONNECTING, AND USING THE HILNA The HILNA mdules have been designed t be highly reliable under the specified perating cnditins. The fllwing installatin and interfacing guidelines shuld be fllwed t prevent damage t the RF mdule. Cautin: The HILNA mdule cntains cmpnents that are sensitive t Electr-Static Discharge (ESD). Wrist-straps, mats, and grund-straps shuld be used during the installatin prcess. 3.1 CABLING The HILNA V1 is equipped with high-perfrmance RF cnnectrs. Gld plated SMA-type receptacles are used because they perfrm very well acrss the usable frequency range f the unit. Fr ptimal perfrmance, a high-quality 50 caxial cable with SMA-type plugs shuld be used t interface with the amplifier. Cautin: Due t the wideband nature f the unit, installatin shuld nt be attempted n a twer with in-band transmit antennas. If cables with the SMA-type cnnectrs are nt available, high-quality adaptrs are available fr mst caxial cnnectr types. 3.2 POWER SUPPLY The HILNA V1 cntains internal linear vltage regulatrs. These regulatrs prtect the circuitry frm vltage variatins at the input and allw fr the wide perating vltage. The pwer cnnectr fr the units is an industry-standard 2 mm circular cnnectr. The nly restrictins n the pwer surce fr the unit are: Capable f surcing 90 ma f current. Capable f surcing +5 VDC t +20 VDC Car batteries (thrugh a cigarette lighter adaptr), labratry DC pwer supplies, r wall transfrmers are suitable pwer surces as lng as the superimpsed ripple is lw in amplitude. 3.3 CONNECTIONS Cautin: D nt apply RF t the unit befre all cable cnnectins are made and pwer has been applied. Making the cnnectins frm the HILNA V1 is easily accmplished: 1. Cnnect the "RF OUT" cnnectr n the unit t a 50 caxial cable. 2. Plug in the pwer cable sent with the unit int the DC pwer input. 3. Cnnect the red lead t the psitive side f the pwer supply and cnnect the black lead t the negative side f the pwer supply. Pwer is nw ready t be applied t the unit. 4. Cnnect the RF Surce t the RF IN prt with a secnd 50 caxial cable. 5. Apply RF t the input cable assembly. Pwering dwn the unit is dne by reversing this prcedure. 6
Cnnectin Summary: 1. Cnnect the RF Output t a gd lad. The characteristic impedance is 50 Ω. 2. Apply DC (+12 VDC Typical) at the pwer cnnectr. 3. Cnnect an RF surce t the RF Input cnnectr. Cautin: Excess drive levels at the input t the amplifier can permanently damage the unit. Under n circumstance shuld the RF input level exceed +15 dbm. 3.4 ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS The HILNA V1 units are rated fr peratin frm -20 t +70 C. The enclsure is NOT watertight s the unit must be kept dry. It is recmmended that the unit be installed in a well-ventilated area r munted t a heat sink if the input vltage exceeds +12 VDC.
