THE DISTRICT A Weekly Update from Governor Brenda Walker December 3, 2012 Governor s Message Fellow Rotarians, December is Family of Rotary month. I hope you will include your spouse, children and grandchildren as we participate in Rotary activities this holiday season. I am very thankful for my husband Stack and all he has done to support me this year! May you find the peace you desire during this this season of giving. What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family. Mother Teresa Peace Through Service, Brenda

Vidor President Sally Andrews welcomes Mike Sanchez, who was inducted on Monday, November 27. Officer Sanchez works for the Vidor Police Department and also is heavily involved with the Criminal Justice students at Vidor High School, helping train them for competitions and teaching them about law enforcement. This month s magazine features an interview with our own PDG Jack McCullough of Nacogdoches. Jack and wife ElaRuth participated in delivery of medicine to prevent villagers in Peru from hookworms. We are so fortunate to have talented and gifted Rotarians making a difference in the world. See page 13 of the rotarian and read all about it!

I Like Me Literacy Project Governor Brenda enjoyed visiting with Huntsville President Tyler Johns and board members following the presentation of I Like Me books to first graders. The books are personalized for each child and Rotarians had fun distributing the books and seeing the big smiles on the kids.

Governor Brenda and Stack joined San Augustine President Sharron Stoneham and Rotarians for the steak dinner and reverse raffle scholarship fundraiser. Tickets were $100 and the winner went home with $5,000! Proceeds will go to award $1,000 scholarships to high school Seniors. The event was highly successful! Thanks to our hard working Rotarians for their service to Rotary and the San Augustine community. Cleveland President Ernestine Belt welcomed District Governor Nominee Don Taylor to discuss Future Vision and The Rotary Foundation.

L-R: President Ron Johnson, Danny Bay, Governor Brenda, Tom Lastrocco, Milton Moorer and Red Badger Kent Ferguson Little shoppers got a kick out of ringing the bell! Santa shows his patriotism by posing in front of our Flag with Governor Brenda and President Ron. Nacogdoches Rotarians rang the bell for The Salvation Army. Governor Brenda and Stack enjoyed a reception with board members and breakfast with President Ron Johnson. Santa even stopped by with a merry HoHoHo! Thanks to everyone who rang the bell in service to Rotary! President Ron and Brenda enjoy fellowship at the Fredonia with board members.

TEXAS CITY HONORS PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS AND HERB LANGFORD FELLOWS Texas City honored its PHF s with a banquet. The Herb Langford Fellowship was created by Texas City club in 2001 to honor those PHF s who contribute a minimum of $1,000 to the Texas City Rotary Foundation. Bob Eason and Les Daughtry accept the Herb Langford award.

President Liz Robinson presents a check for $400 to Paula O'Neil, director of Some Other Place. Lee Freeland, board chair for SOP and Beaumont club member was also present. Lee has served as a volunteer for Some Other Place for several years.

L-R: Shelor Edmiston and Ronald Dowell Crockett Rotarians helped kick off the holiday season by participating in Christmas on the Square. The club sold Houston County Commemorative Throws and drinks for fund raising.
