Using template plastic and the paper patterns provided on pages 3 and 4, make templates for each fruit and leaf motif. Except where noted, the patterns are not reversed, and do not include seam allowances except for the bottom edges of the apple, grapefruit, pear, and carrots. 2. As required for your preferred method of appliqué, prepare the motifs listed: (4) red dot apples (4) orange dot carrots (4) orange dot reverse carrots (4) yellow fruit grapefruit (4) yellow fruit pears (16) red tonal cherries (20) red fruit grapes (16) green dot leaves (12) green floral leaves (24) green tonal leaves (16) green fruit leaves Use the quilt pictured on the cover as a guide for pairing the various leaf templates with fabrics or use any pairings of your choice. 3. Using the quilt pictured on the cover as a guide, arrange the fruit and leaf motifs onto an 18⅞" cream floral triangle. Make sure that the bottom edges of the apple, grapefruit, pear, carrot, and reverse carrot are even with the long edge of the cream floral triangle. Appliqué the motifs to the background using matching threads and the method of your choice. Repeat to make a total of (4) appliqué triangle units. Quilt Assembly Finish all steps in the "Sewing Instructions" section on page 2 before beginning the Quilt Assembly. 1. Trim the 2" green floral inner border strips to 36½" (if your measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Stitch trimmed strips to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Sew 2" yellow fruit squares to each end of the remaining (2) trimmed strips. Stitch the pieced borders to the top and bottom. 2. Trim the 6½" red pears middle border strips to 39½" (if your measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Stitch trimmed strips to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Sew 6½" green fruit squares to each end of the remaining (2) trimmed strips. Stitch the pieced borders to the top and bottom. 3. Trim the selvages from the 3½" green floral outer border strips. Sew the strips together end to end to make a long 3½" strip. From this long strip, cut (4) 51½" lengths (if your measurements are different, cut to fit your quilt top). Stitch (2) lengths to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Sew 3½" yellow fruit squares to each end of the (2) remaining trimmed strips. Stitch the pieced borders to the top and bottom to complete the quilt top. 4. Layer the completed quilt top with batting and backing and quilt as desired. 5. Trim the finished quilt and bind using the 2¼" red tonal strips.
Sewing Instructions All seams are sewn using 1/4" seam allowance with pieces held right sides together and raw edges even. 1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of a 6⅞" yellow fruit square. Layer the marked square with a 6⅞" green floral square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" away on both sides of the marked line. Cut the unit apart on the marked line to yield (2) half-square triangle units. Repeat to make (2) more half-square triangle units. Page 2 2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of a 5" red fruit square. Layer the marked square on the yellow fruit side of a half-square triangle, right sides together. Sew on the marked line. Trim 1/4" beyond the seam line and press the red fruit triangle out as shown. 3. Draw diagonal lines on the wrong sides of 3½" green fruit and orange dot squares. Layer the marked squares in opposite corners of the half-square triangle unit, with the green fruit square on the red fruit triangle and the orange dot square on the green floral triangle. Sew on the marked lines. Trim 1/4" beyond the seam lines to complete (1) center block. 4. Repeat steps 1-4 to make (4) identical center blocks. 5. Arrange the center blocks into (2) rows with (2) blocks in each row, rotating each square as shown in the quilt pictured on the cover. Stitch the blocks into rows and sew the rows together to make the quilt center unit. 6. Arrange (2) 3½" x 12½" green fruit pieces, (2) 3½" green floral squares, (2) 3½" orange dot squares, and (2) 3⅞" green floral triangles as shown. Stitch the green floral squares and triangles to opposite sides of the orange dot squares, noting orientation of the triangles. Assemble the units as shown. Trim the green fruit pieces even with the edges of the green floral triangles to complete (1) side section. Repeat to make a total of (4) side sections. Stitch side sections to the left and right sides of the quilt center unit. 7. Stitch (2) 3⅞" green floral triangles to adjacent sides of a 3½" orange dot square. Repeat to make a total of (4) units. Stitch these units to the left and right sides of the (2) remaining side units made in step 7. Stitch these units to the remaining sides of the quilt center unit. 8. Stitch a prepared appliqué triangle to each side of the quilt center unit to complete the body of the quilt top. 2012 Henry Glass & Co., Inc.
