If you are unable to attend the meeting and would like to participate please contact ccgs-president@gmail.com to be included. The topics include DNA results and how to use them; breaking through your brick wall; and assistance with your research. These can be one on one or small group discussions. We can get together at someone s house, a restaurant, or at the library. FIRST TEXAS INSTITUTE of GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH (TIGR) I was privileged to attend the first TIGR held in Austin May 22 25, 2017. It was held at the Thompson Conference Center (TCC) on the University of Texas campus. There were excellent instructors. We had a refresher on Texas history and geography to assist us with determining where to look for ancestral records. If you have pre- Republic ancestors, you need to be able to read and translate Spanish. We did an in depth look at the records held at the Texas State Library, General Land Office, and other repositories. We were shown how to track the land through various inheritance methods, court records, probate records, and tax records. We learned about women s rights of inheritance, the difference of Military, Bounty, and Donation Land Grants. Demonstrations were provided on using cluster research. The various settlements by Spanish and Mexican Empresarios and then migration patterns were discussed along with the various wars with Mexico, the Indians, and the Union forces, the Texas Rangers and Reconstruction as well. These all influenced the migration patterns and various records that were required and kept. Most of the sixty attendees were from Texas. We could ask questions throughout the process. During the long lunch breaks and after class several students took advantage of the Briscoe Center for American History collections of personal papers and diaries, Spanish and Mexican records from 1717 1836, and Confederate records to do some personal research. It was located just south of the TCC. When TIGR is next offered in 2019, I would strongly encourage anyone with Texas ancestors to attend. It was well worth the time, money, and effort. North Collin County Genealogy Society The meeting will be on Thursday, June 8 h at 6:45 p.m. for the North Collin County Genealogical Society Meeting. The special guest speaker will be Ms. Deborah Kilgore. Ms. Kilgore is a historian, instructor in American History, and researcher for North Texas history ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Out of ideas?
