Votive Cards Tutorial August / September 2008 I was in a swap earlier this year with Katrina Merrryman, and she used one of these cards for her swap. I went bananas over this! Kat learned the technique from Amanda Coughlin, who was gracious enough to allow us to use the technique here. These are just beautiful with votives inside - - great for party lighting, gifts, or just something to add beauty to your own home. Supplies: - 8-½" x 11" Piece of Colored Cardstock - 4 Pieces of 2-½" x 4" Cardstock (Identical to Full Sheet, Above) - 4 Pieces of 1-¾" x 3-¼" Thin White Vellum - Ink to Coordinate with Paper - Stamps for Focal Image - Scoring Tool or Bone Folder - Sponge Dauber - Adhesive - Trimmer, Craft Knife or 1-3 8" Square Punch - Designer paper, Ribbon, Brads and Stamps for Decorating Piece Step One: Fold the cardstock in half on the long side (for two 4-¼" x 11" sides). Step Two: Fold the piece again in half the other way.

Step Three: Turn the piece ¼ turn. With the first fold facing up, fold the left edge to the center fold and score (for four 2-¾" x 4-¼" panels on the left side). Repeat with the right side. Open. The cardstock piece will have eight 2-¾"x 4-¼"scored panels. Step Four: Turn the cardstock so that one of the 8-½" sides faces you. Use a trimmer or craft knife to cut on the vertical center fold, starting at the first horizontal fold and cutting up to the third horizontal fold. Step Four, Continued: Step Five: To cut the areas for the vellum, cut a rectangle out of one of the four inside panels Measure 5 8" around the inside of the panel and cut out using the craft knife or trimmer. Step Six: Repeat with the remaining three panels. Optional: Use the 1-3 8" square punch to make the rectangular holes.

Step Seven: Use inks and stamps to decorate the vellum pieces. Step Eight: Measure ½"around the edges of one of the matching cardstock pieces. Cut out with craft knife, trimmer or punch. Step Nine: Repeat with remaining three pieces. Step Ten: Apply adhesive around inside edges of the cut panels. Step Eleven: Adhere vellum piece to panel. Repeat with other pieces and set aside. Step Twelve: Decorate the outside of the four interior panels. Use sponge dauber to sponge ink around the inside of the rectangle openings, if desired.

Step Thirteen: Open the cardstock and flip over. Apply adhesive around the inside edge of the four rectangles. Step Fourteen: Attach the four vellum/cardstock pieces. Place the vellum on the adhesive, being careful to align the rectangles so that the back cardstock square does not show through the front. Step Fourteen, Continued: Step Fourteen, Continued: View of inside of piece with rectangles attached. Step Fourteen, Continued: View of outside of piece with rectangles attached. Step Fifteen: Decorate the outside of the last four panels of the card as desired.

Step Fifteen, Continued: Step Sixteen: Apply adhesive to the inside of the far left panels of the piece. Step Seventeen: Repeat on right side. Close card. Place votive in center (make certain to use a votive without the flame being exposed to the paper directly). Finished Piece by: Pat Huntoon
