Turn n the access pint. 2. Establish a cnnectin t the access pint. If yu cannt cnnect t the access pint, see I cannt establish a cnnectin. 3. Place yur cmputer clser t the access pint. 4. Quit yur Web brwser if it is pen. 5. If yu are using the Windw s XP perating system, deactivate the "Internet Cnnectin Firew all" functin by perfrming the fllw ing. 1. In "Cntrl Panel", click "Netw rk and Internet Cnnectins", and then click "Netw rk Cnnectins". Hint If "Netw rk and Internet Cnnectins" des nt appear, click "Sw itch t Categry View " n the left. 2. Right-click the Wireless Netw rk Cnnectin icn t w hich yu w ant t cnnect, and click "Prperties". 3. Why can't I establish a cnnectin after changing the access pint settings? If yu change the access pint netw rk name (SSID) r the data encryptin (WEP) settings, yu must als change the w ireless cnnectin settings f the cmputer accrdingly. Fr details, see I cannt establish a cnnectin. Page 73

I cannt switch netwrks When using the Windws 2000 perating system If yu lgged n t yur Windw s perating system as a user w ith limited access privileges, the netw rk cannt be sw itched. Lg n as a user w ith administratr access privileges. When using the Windws XP perating system If "Streaming Mde" is enabled, the w ireless setting functins f the Windw s XP perating system are nt available. Disable "Streaming Mde" after view ing streaming vide data. Page 74

Why can't I use sme functins and settings? Under the Windw s 2000 and Windw s XP perating system, sme functins are restricted depending n the access privileges f the user. Nte T install the supplied sftw are n a cmputer running the Windw s 2000 perating system, lg n as a user listed in "Administratrs". T install the supplied sftw are n a cmputer running the Windw s XP perating system, lg n as a user w ith administratr access privileges. Yu cannt install the sftw are w hen lgged n as any ther user. Limitatins accrding t access privileges are as fllw s. Us e rs Limitatins Windw s 2000: Administratrs Windw s XP: Cmputer AdministratrCan use all the functins (n restrictins). Actual functins depend n the perating system. Other users Windw s 2000: Cannt install the Wireless Panel sftw are r the Wireless LAN PC Card driver. Cannt sw itch r register netw rks. Cannt set w ireless transmissins On/Off. (Transmissin status mnitring and access pint cnfiguratin are pssible.) Windw s XP: Cannt install the Wireless Panel sftw are r the Wireless LAN PC Card driver. Cannt use streaming mde r set w ireless transmissins On/Off. Page 75

Why is cmmunicatin speed lw? The actual maximum thrughput f each Wireless LAN PC Card is as fllw s. PCWA-C800S (2.4 GHz (802.11b)): apprx. 5 Mbps PCWA-C800S (2.4 GHz (802.11g) r 5 GHz (802.11a)): apprx. 23 Mbps PCWA-C500, PCWA-C700 (5 GHz (802.11a)): apprx. 23 Mbps PCWA-C700 (2.4 GHz (802.11b)): apprx. 5 Mbps PCWA-C300S: apprx. 23 Mbps. If the access pint is used w ith 802.11b, this value is apprx. 5 Mbps. Hw ever, the values stated abve are als affected by the maximum pssible value betw een the access pint and yur cmputer. Therefre, if yu are accessing the Internet, the maximum thrughput is a functin f the Internet cnnectin. The cmmunicatin speed may als decrease in the fllw ing situatins. If the distance betw een the access pint and cmputer is great, r there are bjects betw een the tw interfering w ith cmmunicatins. If w ireless cnnectins w ith several cmputers are established simultaneusly. 2.4 GHz w ireless cmmunicatin may be affected by micrw ave vens, Bluetth devices, etc., as w ell radi signals frm ther 2.4 GHz cmmunicatin devices, resulting in lw er cmmunicatin speed. When using a PCWA-C700 r PCWA-C300S, yu can nly transmit data at 2 Mbps at 2.4 GHz, n channel 14. With the PCWA-C800S, yu can transmit at up t 11 Mbps. If "Cmmunicatin type" n the Wireless Panel w indw "Status" tab is "802.11g (.11g Mixed)", the access pint is perating under a mixed mde w ith 802.11b, reducing cmmunicatin speed. Page 76

When I play back MPEG2 files, the cntents are fragmented. What can I d t crrect this prblem? Verify the fllw ing. 1. With the Windw s XP perating system, activate the stream ing mde. On the "Status" tab f the Wireless Panel w indw, click "Streaming Mde" t enable it. This temprarily suspends the Windw s XP w ireless cnfiguratin functins (Wireless Zer Cnfiguratin service) t ptimize perfrmance. 2. See Why is cmmunicatin speed lw?. Nte Yu cannt use this functin if the security methd is WPA r WPA-PSK. Page 77
