Use a 1/4 seam allowance unless otherwise noted. Cutting Instructions: Pink Print #1 (A) Cut four 8 ½ x width of fabric (WOF) strips. Sub-cut the strips into fourteen 8 ½ squares; Cut two 2 ½ x 23 ½ WOF strips; Cut four 2 ½ x WOF strips. Sew the strips together, end to end with diagonal seams, and cut two 2 ½ x 61 ½ strips; Cut two 4 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into eleven 4 ½ squares. Pink/Black Print #1 (B) Cut seven 4 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into fifty-six 4 ½ squares. Pink Print #2 (C) Cut four 2 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into fifty-six 2 ½ squares. Pink/Blank Print #2 (D) See instructions to cut fourteen large hearts; See instructions to cut eleven small hearts. Black Print (E) Cut two 1 x 22 ½ WOF strips; Cut three 1 x WOF strips. Sew the strips together, end to end with diagonal seams, and cut two 1 x 57 ½ strips; Cut three 1 ½ x WOF strips. Sew the strips together, end to end with diagonal seams, and cut two 1 ½ x 56 ½ strips; Cut two 1 ½ x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into twelve 1 ½ x 4 ½ strips; Cut five 2 ½ x WOF strips for the binding. Pink #3 (Backing) Cut one 35 x 69 strip for the back. Page 2
Block Assembly Instructions: 1. Place one 4 ½ Fabric B square on the top left corner of one 8 ½ Fabric A square, right sides together (Fig. 1). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 1). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 2). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle ¼ away from the sewn seam. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 2. 3. 4. 5. Follow Figure 3 for the seam direction to add a 4 ½ Fabric B square to each of the remaining corners of the Tonga-B3342-Pink square to make one AB block (Fig. 4). Repeat Steps 1-2 to make fourteen AB blocks total. Repeat Steps 1-2 using fourteen AB blocks and fifty-six 2 ½ Fabric C squares to make fourteen ABC blocks (Fig. 5). Following the manufacturer s instructions, trace the listed number of each template onto the paper side of the fusible web. Roughly cut out each template about 1/8 outside the drawn lines. Fig. 3 Fig. 4 Fig. 5 6. 7. 8. 9. Press each template onto the wrong side of the fabrics as listed in the cutting. Cut out each template on the drawn lines. Refer to the quilt photo to arrange and press one large Fabric D heart onto the center of one ABC block to make one large heart block (Fig. 6). Repeat to make fourteen large heart blocks. Finish the raw edges of each shape with a decorative stitch such as a buttonhole or satin stitch to complete the fourteen large heart blocks. Fig. 6 Repeat Steps 5-8 using the eleven Fabric D small hearts and eleven 4 ½ Fabric A squares to make eleven small heart blocks. Runner Top Assembly Instructions: Refer to Runner Layout while assembling. 10. 11. Sew seven of the large heart blocks together to make one large heart strip. Repeat to make a second large heart strip. Sew the twelve 1 ½ x 4 ½ Fabric E strips and eleven small heart blocks together, alternating them, to make one small heart strip. Pay attention to the orientation of the hearts. Page 3
12. 13. 14. 15. Sew one 1 ½ x 56 ½ Fabric E strip to the top and to the bottom of the small heart strip. Sew one large heart strip to the top and one to the bottom of the small heart strip to make the runner top. Pay attention to the orientation of the strips. Sew one 1 x 22 ½ Fabric E strip to each side of the runner top. Sew one 1 x 57 ½ Fabric E strip to the top and to the bottom of the runner top. Sew one 2 ½ x 23 ½ Fabric A strip to each side of the runner top. Sew one 2 ½ x 61 ½ Fabric A strip to the top and to the bottom of the runner top. Runner Layout Finishing Instructions: 16. 17. 18. Layer the runner top, batting and backing and quilt as desired. Stitch the binding strips together, end to end using diagonal seams. Fold and press the resulting long strip in half, lengthwise with wrong sides together. Stitch to the quilt front, matching raw edges and mitering the corners. Fold the binding to the runner underside and hand-stitch the folded edge to the runner back. Page 4
