Napa Valley Quilters Guild LOOSE THREADS October 2018, Volume 87, Issue 10, www.napavalleyquilters.org Welcome to October my quilting friends. I love this time of year. The leaves are turning and there s a crispness in the mornings. I would like to remind everyone to get out and sell our Opportunity Quilt tickets. This is the fundraiser for the year. Our Opportunity Quilt committee has been busy selling tickets at a variety of venues. If you know of an event that would work for Tickets sales, please let me know. Next years Opportunity Quilt is already being made. A huge thank you to all our members that have worked on Opportunity Quilts past and present. kitchen facilities are limited. Thank you to Linda Fuetz for another successful Art in the Library. The quilts are amazing. Linda is also doing double duty by being our Secretary at our Board Meetings. Just a reminder, our October meeting will be held 10/20 at Las Flores. If you re a coffee drinker, please bring your own as the Cyndy Clark, President Please note the October Guild meeting has been changed to Saturday, October 20,2018. NAPA VALLEY QUILTERS Minutes of the General Meeting, Senior Center Napa September 8, 2018 President Cyndy Clark called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, the 12 August birthdays were announced and Happy Birthday was sung. Secretary's Report The July General Meeting Minutes as they appear on the website were approved by the membership after a motion by Sue Lipschultz and a second by Kay O'Neil. Treasurer's Report Treasurer Linda Souza read the report to the membership Beginning Balance: 20,023.22 CD Balance $5.386.55 Income: 2,763.91 CD Interest 1.14 Expenses: 736.22 Pay Pal Acct 145.87 Ending Balances: $22,787.13 Vice President, Programs - Vice President Michelle Moore announced the upcoming speakers and events. October: We will have Dixie McBride as speaker and workshop teacher. On Saturday October 20 th at the general meeting, Dixie will lecture on "Quilt Judges and Jurors, Who Are They?" On Sunday October 21st she will teach an appliqué class titled "Rosevine Cottage". The cost for the class is $35.00. November: Youngmin Lee - will speak on Korean Patchwork "Bojagi. In addition there will be a workshop on November 11 titled Bojagi Textile Art Seam Technique. If you plan to enroll in the workshop start collecting organza, cottons and lawn to use in the class. December: It s time again for our Holiday Dinner! Details to come. More information and links to the speakers' websites go to the Napa Valley Quilter's Website. Membership - There were 71 members present at the meeting, 6 guests, and 1 new member. Judy Cochran won the number drawing receiving a $10 Gift Certificate to Broadway Quilts. Rose Luce also asked two people to step up and take over managing Membership and asked that if anyone has edits to the Roster, please get them to her. Quilts to Share There will be no 5th Saturday get-together this month, even though there is actually a 5th Saturday on the calendar. Also, the Q2S team will be selling fabrics at Vintage in the Valley at the EXPO Fairgrounds 9/28-9/29 and they could use help manning the booth. Visiting Guild Rhonda from Loomis was at the meeting selling tickets for their Opportunity Quilt. The drawing will be April 27, 2019. Drawings - Mary Jo Kent announced that next Saturday September 15th is National Jelly Roll Day! There were 5 great prizes and 5 lucky winners! Block of the Month Sarah Galzinski announced the winner of the month's squares, Yvonne Gilliland. She also asked members to bring in only good quality Fat Quarters to contribute to the drawing. The FQ color next month will be Browns. And

in addition to every one's contributions, a selection of Halloween fabrics from Marsha Lindstad's collection will be added to the prize. Historian - Carol Holmes gave no report. Librarian - Kathy Stegman reminded everyone that there would be no Library while we are holding our meetings at Las Flores Community Center. There is not enough space. Hospitality Leslie McGarvey told the membership that she has a new job at Broadway Quilts and there may be some Saturdays that she cannot take care of Hospitality. If someone is interested, Cindy Clark is taking names to keep on a list as back-up help. Art in the Library Linda Feutz announced that our quilts are up in the Library! On Friday 9/14 there will be an opening and Joanne Lincoln will be speaking. There will be wine and goodies at the event that begins at 6PM. Newsletter Cheryl Bundy reminded everyone that all Newsletter content must be in by the 20th of the month. She also has many pillow case kits to be sewn up and then distributed to the troops. They need to be finished and given back to Cheryl by the next meeting. Communication Patti Glenn said that if you have anything to communicate she is the one who sends out email blasts. Website - No report from Maggie Walker. In Addition: Glamping, look for it next year at the KOA Campground in Petaluma. There are cabins with bathrooms available for those who don't have a camper. Annie Donahue reported that our Opportunity Quilt would be at Vintage in the Valley at the EXPO Fairgrounds 9/28-9/29. She needs people to sit with the quilt and sell tickets. We need to sell more tickets to win the Opportunity Quilt. President Cyndy Clark would like to see everyone sell extra tickets to boost our bank account. The drawing will be in December. A committee has been formed to find nominees for next year's board members. The committee members are: Linda Souza, Linda Feutz, Trudy Molina, Linda Wagner and Joanne Dalton. Kay O'Neil is making quilted bags for the homeless and needs socks to put in them. Jamie McClenaghan reminded members that they might like to add a monetary donation to the guild to their Trust or Will. A donation will be very appreciated. Sharon Lampton has many, many white iris to give away. The meeting was adjourned ay 10:50 for Show and Tell. Jan Schiefferly & Ann Nelson are two of the members of the Opportunity Quilt committee. We will reschedule at a later time.
