1 Women Of the West QUILTERS April 2012 APRIL PROGRAM Members of the Mahtomedi Evening Star Quilters will show slides and present about quilters who went to France to see quilts, textiles and shop for fabrics. They will also share quilts made from the fabrics they collected. Monday, April 23, 7 p.m. President s Column I had a wonderful time this past month taking Norma s class. I don t know how often I will use her techniques, but I had a blast learning them. I hope everyone enjoyed seeing her wonderful quilts and wall hangings. April brings us the French Textile Tour. This promises to a fun way to explore France in textiles. Maybe take some notes, and plan your own trip! I look forward to seeing you at the meeting! Have any of you started on the challenge project? I have been mind mapping what road I should show in mine. Many of us have more than one path we have been down, and I look forward to being surprised and learning more about you through a glimpse of your road. As always, thank you each and everyone of you for sharing, caring, and enjoying the craft of quilting with us! You may reach me at pres.womenofthewest@gmail.com Yours in Stitches and Giggles, Patti Marrin April Program Members of the Mahtomedi Evening Star Quilters led by Connie Nelson and Marty Currie will show slides and present about the large group of quilters who went to France to see quilts, textiles, and shop for quilt fabric! They will share quilts they made from the fabrics they collected. Connie Nelson is a former French teacher, who led many trips to France, and just to hear her pronounce the names of places and things in her beautiful French language is worth the price of admission. A fun adventure through France with quilting enthusiasts! Upcoming May 28 th Program Sheila Sinclair Snyder will bring a trunk show from her new book, Perfect Fit Pieced Borders. (We will meet on the evening of Memorial Day in May) Lori Allison Vice President
2 Block of the month was drawn and the new block shown for next month. March s winner of 12 batik tree motif blocks was Dawn Bryant. Directions for April block, made from 30 s inspired fabrics, are available on the WOW website. For each block made, (up to three) you can put you name in the drawing for ownership of the blocks made for that month. Dawn Bryant/Carol Henderson Resolution Quilt Committee: Forms are available for participation from Cindy Stenson and Pam Plocek. Birthday Club brought in $29.50 toward the monthly room rental. We need better participation next month. Remember that the money collected helps cover the cost of room rental for our monthly meetings. Diane Salls Membership: At the March meeting we had 87 members signed in and 3 visitors. We want to welcome 1 new member: Leslie Daugherty, Maple Grove. Total paid membership as of the March meeting is 126 members. Copies of the membership roster will be available on the membership table during the April meeting. LuAnn Sing/Shirley Bonacci Membership Committee WOW 2012 Challenge The Road I Traveled November 2012 Program Create a poster-sized quilt somewhere between 16 x 20 and 24 x 36 or any shape that is approximately square inches (multiply length times width). The road begins anywhere on the left side and finishes anywhere on the right side and measures approximately 3 on the left and the right, but can be any size, shape, or length inside the quilt. The quilt represents something about your life; it has a story to tell about your life s journey. The quilts will be hung first without names for voting by the members. Then each member will talk about their own quilt. Based on Viewer s Choice Secret Ballot, three $50 prizes will be awarded to best 1) artistry, 2) creativity & 3) workmanship.??? Secret Sisters???
