ISOMETRIC #5a PLAN, ELEVATION, ISOMETRIC Draft due Monday, October 15 correct & precise Redraft with Ink Due Monday October 22 On a sheet of 18"x24" strathmore, compile a set of drawings of a small object with cylindrical and/or conical form. First draw the PLAN and SECTION of the object to aid the drawing of 2 ISOMETRICS, one of the object in VERTICAL position, and one of the object in a HORIZONTAL position. OBSERVE & MEASURE To begin, sketch a diagram of the object and use a ruler to find its measurements. Take measurements for all primary elements, and all points of inflections on the object's external contour. DETERMINE DRAWING LAYOUT & SCALE You may not be able to fit all the drawings of the object on the page at real size (scale: 1"=1"). You may need to scale the drawing. For example you might determine that you can use 1/2" = 1" scale. (This would effectively shrink the object's size in half.) The page will be divided into four sections. Object Drawing Set
ISOMETRIC #5b DRAWING RELATIONSHIPS The plan will stack directly above the section. Construction lines clearly demonstrate that the widths of the plan and the section are the same. Stack the horizontal iso over the vertical iso. Align the edge of the vertical iso with the elevation, and align the horizontal iso with the plan. Using construction lines, sketch out the size and placement of all four drawings.
ISOMETRIC #5c SECTION Begin the section by drawing the overall size envelope as a rectangle or square. Add measured tickmarks to the boxes edges to use these as MEASUREMENT LINES in your drawing's scale. Draw diagonals to find the center of the section, and draw the midline (AXIS of SYMMETRY) Add CONSTRUCTION LINES for all object's major contour inflections. PLAN Draw the plan. Include: RECTILINEAR ENVELOPE MEASUREMENT TICKMARKS DIAGONALS MIDLINES (AXES) CONTOUR'S CONSTRUCTION LINES CONTOUR LINES HIDDEN LINES Lightly sketch in the object exterior and interior contours. Use LINEWEIGHT to enhance the drawing's legibility. Solid ink for visible contours, dotted ink for hidden lines and additional structural contours.
ISOMETRIC #5d VERTICAL ISOMETRIC Set up the rectilinear wireframe for your isometric drawing. Connect exterior contour lines from midpoints to midpoints. Transfer measurement tickmarks to the edges. Start by drawing a horizontal plane at every major contour inflection or connection between parts, on the section. Using measurements and construction lines, determine the cross-sections of the object in each plane. Finish the drawing by increasing its legibility through inked lineweights, solid and dotted.
ISOMETRIC #5e HORIZONTAL ISOMETRIC Use TRACE PAPER to cover up the vertical isometric to keep it clean while you draw above. Set up the rectilinear wireframe for your isometric drawing. Using measurements and construction lines, determine the crosssections of the object in each plane. Transfer measurement tickmarks to the edges. Start by drawing a vertical plane at every major contour inflection or connection between parts, on the elevation. Also draw the axial planes through the midpoint to help you visualize the object's center axis. Connect exterior contour lines from midpoints to midpoints.
ISOMETRIC #5f ISOMETRIC FORM: OBJECT HORIZONTAL ISOMETRIC, CONT. Connect exterior contour lines from midpoints to midpoints. Finish the drawing by increasing its legibility through inked lineweights, solid and dotted. Complete Drawing Set
