MATERIALS 3 /8 yard assorted white scraps 3 /8 yard assorted black scraps 3 /8 yard assorted medium/dark blue scraps 1 /8 yard assorted orange scraps 1 /8 yard assorted grey scraps 1 /8 yard assorted red scraps 1 /8 yard assorted yellow scraps 1 /8 yard assorted azure scraps 1 /4 yard assorted light teal scraps 1 /8 yard assorted dark teal scraps 1 /4 yard dark blue fabric for the binding 32 x 27 batting 35 x 30 backing fabric neutral-colored thread for piecing rotary cutter, ruler & mat quilting thread sewing machine general sewing supplies FINISHED QUILT SIZE 28 1 /2 x 24 NOTE It is recommended that fabrics be 100% cotton, pre-washed and well ironed. Requirements are based on fabric with a usable width of 40. Seam allowance is 1 /4. Seam allowances are included in the cutting instructions.
Page 3 of 8 CUTTING From the white fabric cut nine 2 1 /2 squares fifty 2 squares From the black fabric cut three 2 1 /2 squares sixty-four 2 squares From the medium/dark blue fabric cut five 2 1 /2 squares sixty-four 2 squares From the orange fabric cut two 2 1 /2 squares four 2 squares From the medium grey fabric cut four 2 squares From the red, yellow and azure fabrics cut twenty-two 2 squares each From the light teal fabric cut three 2 1 /2 squares twenty-nine 2 squares From the dark teal fabric cut five 2 squares From the width of the binding fabric cut three 2 1 /4 strips HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES Draw a line from corner to corner on the wrong side of a white 2 1 /2 square. Layer this square with an orange 2 1 /2 square, right sides together. Sew a 1 /4 seam on each side of the diagonal line. Cut square in half on the marked line. Flip open the orange triangles and press. Cut off dog ears and trim to correct size. The half-square triangle block should measure 2.
Page 4 of 8 Repeat with one more set of white and orange 2 1 /2 squares. Four white and orange halfsquare triangle blocks are needed for the quilt. Repeat with two sets of white and black 2 1 /2 squares, flip open black triangles. Four white and black half-square triangle blocks are needed for the quilt. Repeat with three sets of white and medium/dark blue 2 1 /2 squares, flip open medium/dark blue triangles. Only five of the six white and blue half-square triangle blocks are needed for the quilt. Repeat with two sets of white and light teal 2 1 /2 squares, flip open light teal triangles. Only three of the four white and teal half-square triangle blocks are needed for the quilt. Repeat with one set of medium/dark blue and light teal 2 1 /2 squares, flip open medium/dark blue triangles. Only one of the two blue and teal half-square triangle blocks is needed for the quilt. Repeat with one set of medium/dark blue and black 2 1 /2 squares, flip open black triangles. Only one of the two blue and black half-square triangle blocks is needed for the quilt. ASSEMBLY Lay out the squares and half-square triangles in nineteen rows of sixteen squares each. Make up the horizontal rows by joining the sixteen squares together, following diagram 1. Page 6 of 8 Row 18 Row 19 Join the rows together in numerical order, starting with Row 1 at the top, matching the seams at the intersections. Press seams towards rows with even numbers. Press quilt top well. QUILTING Layer the backing right side down with the batting and quilt top right side up on top. Baste the three layers together. Quilt as desired. BINDING Join the binding strips into one length using diagonal seams, press the seams open and press the length of binding in half with the wrong sides together. Beginning approximately halfway along one side, join the binding to the front of the quilt with a 1 /4 seam, mitering each corner as you go. Trim the batting and backing even with the edge of the quilt top. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back of the quilt and hand-stitch it in place.
