3 Tools and Equipment including: Saws, hammers, chisels, screwdrivers, spirit level, plumb bob, try squares, cordless drills, drill bits, laser level, planes, jigsaw, nail gun Select the relevant materials required to carry out structural carcassing operations. - Materials including: Nails, screws, adhesives, proprietary brackets, joist hangers, timber and timber manufactured boards Rectify defects found in timber products in accordance with organisational procedures. - Defects including: Splits in timber, waney edge, fungal attack, damage caused in transit, knots and shakes, resin pockets Protect the work and its surrounding area from damage in accordance with the Protect Work - maintaining a clean work space - disposing of waste - sustainability / recycling - barriers - protection of ongoing and completed work 3 Know how to erect trussed rafter and traditional gable roofs Describe the procedure for erecting truss rafters and traditional gables to form gable ended roofs. - Procedure Working drawings, architects drawings, manufacturers drawings, customer requirements, fixing of wall plates, fixing sequence, lengthening joints, half lap joists, ridge points, lateral restraints, and tank stands Describe the procedure for transporting and lifting truss rafters. - Procedure Page 3 of 5 Last Updated : 15/08/2018

5 ladders and bargeboards in accordance with the given specification. 7 Know how to install floor joists Describe suitable methods of supporting joists. - Methods Built-in, wall plates, on joist hangers Describe the appropriate method of forming openings in floor joists Describe the suitable methods of strutting floor joists. - Methods in relation to: Solid, herringbone, galvanised steel Describe the different types of floor joists. - Types I-beam, solid timber, laminated Describe why it is important to protect joists from moisture. - Important Prevent fungal attack. 8 Be able to install floor joists Install the correct types of floor joists in accordance with the I-beam, solid timber, laminated Install appropriate strutting in accordance with the given specification. - Solid, herringbone, galvanised steel Form openings with associated joints in accordance with the Service access, staircase, chimney.
