6 Caution!! Fine art isn t a friend of direct or reflective sunlight. Your Legacy Wall pieces have UV inhibitors built into them to keep your presentation bright and beautiful for many years, however direct or reflective sunlight is not compatible with this presentation. Art lighting can however, add a lot to your presentation. Many locations have found that adding art track lighting gave that added touch of elegance to their wall. The photo to the left is a good example of a well lit location. Location of your wall is important. The wall is not just a learning tool but a PR tool as well. Your patrons will enjoy it just as much as your students.

11 Items Needed: Hammer Drill Level Grabber screws & plastic anchors Use 7/16 OSB for your backer. its less expensive than plywood and holds the sisal adhesive much better. For most installations we recommend starting about 15 to 18 from the floor as this photo shows. For younger groups such as elementary schools you may start as low as 15 from the floor. Grabber screws and plastic anchors work well on brick walls. Use 12 screws per 4 X 8 sheet. Tip #1: Attach your bottom cut sheets first. These will help support the heavier 4 X 8 full sheets while their being attached. Tip #2: Know what cuts your going to need before going to the lumber yard. Having them make all the cuts for you saves time. Tip#3: The backer goes up quickly if you follow these steps: A. Drill your first hole, insert the anchor and attach the sheet. B. Drill a second hole and attach the other end of the sheet. C. With the sheet locked in position, next drill all remaining holes then remove the sheet and insert all remaining plastic anchors into the brick drill holes. D. Reattach the sheet and screw in all screws. Tip#4: Drilling into grout lines is easier and saves on drill bits.

13 Items needed: Ladders (2 or 3). Upholstery staple gun or drill with 1 grabber screws Your wall sisal should be large enough to overlap your backer or at least come close enough to the outside edges to be covered by the molding. lay your sisal on the ground and find the stitched edge if there is one. Before hanging your fabric you will want to cut away ½ of the stitched edge. This is analogous to releasing a rubber band that has been wound up. Doing this will allow your fabric to hang straight on the wall. With one or two people helping: Place your roll against one end of the backer and attach with staples or screws to hold the fabric temporarily. Screws don t need to go very deep. Roll out your sisal allowing it to hang straight against the backer. A screw or staple every three or four feet helps hold it against the wall. The goal is to center the sisal on the backer while ensuring your molding will properly cover.

14 We recommend undraping one side at a time to apply the glue. Doing this, you will have fewer problems re-hanging, once the glue has been applied.

15 Materials needed: Two or three v notched trowels ¼ wide by 3/16 deep. Type 1 floor & wall ceramic tile adhesive--3.5 gals. Undrape ½ of your wall sisal Remove all screws and staples from that side. They will no longer be needed.

16 Cleanup materials needed: Bucket of water Tool cleanup brush Rag to wipe up glue drips etc. Caution! Do not leave too much glue on your backer. Using the proper trowel will prevent this. Leaving too much glue will cause it to actually seep through the wall sisal creating a cleanup mess.

17 Materials needed: Carpet floor roller After re-hanging your sisal use a carpet roller to push the sisal against the backer, removing all air pockets. No staples or screws needed this time. The glue does a good job of holding your sisal. A row of screws between glued and non glued sections is however needed to keep the sisal from falling off the backer. Once your sisal is completely up and rolled out all temporary screws can be removed. Once you have the sisal snuggly rolled against the backer you can now un-drape the 2 nd half of your wall and apply its adhesive.

18 Materials needed: Good, sharp utility knife or box cutter. No waiting is needed. Once the sisal has been rolled out it can be trimmed if needed. With a damp rag, It is easy to clean up any glue that may have built up on the edge of your backer. All this must be removed before you put up your molding.

19 At this point you can start putting up your molding. Note: Here an existing electrical outlet is being actually incorporated into the new Legacy Wall.

21 Start your molding installation with the square blocks. Items Needed: Needle point finish nailer Level Miter saw

22 Tip: Find a colored sharpie marker that matches the color molding you will be putting up. Color the cut end of each molding piece before you attach it. You ll find your cut piece will perfectly blend into the square block or adjoining piece.

23 Tip: Notice how the cut end of the trim piece has been colored with a black sharpie marker. This little trick helps when bringing two cut pieces together almost making the seam disappear. The above photo shows: 1. The proper joining of trim pieces. 2. Addressing Knots. Occasional knot holes, while adding a touch of elegance, may need to be placed high up out of the way.

27 Tip: Keep the Name and section banners Covered with their protective tape until you are completely finished. Acrylic is a dust magnet.

31 Template A & C Three timesaver Install templates you can order. Template A: Used to mark the hanger bracket locations on the back of each large image and storyboard. Template B: Used to quickly locate all wall image locations & mark the left side hole for all pictures/storyboards. Template C: (reverse side of template A), used to level pictures & locate matching wall drill holes for the right side of all pictures/storyboards. Note: Even though templates A and C is sent to you as a paper cut out, we recommend transferring the cutout to a stiff piece of plastic, cardboard, or mat board as shown here.

32 Template A

33 Template A is used for all storyboards, pictures, and documents. Shown here we are first marking the left (backside right), location point where the matching wall T screw hole aligns for the Declaration of Independence Document. Next we will Locate and place a mark on the picture represented by the location marker labeled 1-M. These two marks are where you will place your hanger brackets. The reverse side of this template is Template C and is used to locate & mark the corresponding wall drill holes for the T screw.

34 A close-up of the 1-M location mark. This is the exact point where your wall T screw will nest inside the picture bracket for the Declaration of Independence Document. Mark then attach the left and right brackets to your picture or document. Note: When you flip your template A over it now becomes template C, allowing you to match this same mark with a mark on the wall where you will drill the hole for your right T screw. the left wall mark will be found and drilled using template B. Note: In this install guide we will refer to actual image locations from the Image Reference Chart as examples.

Tip: After drilling each hole, insert the plastic anchor. After removing Template B just look for all your plastic anchors - it s much easier than hunting for semi invisible drill holes.

40 Template C

41 Template C is only used after Template B. Find your left drill hole with its plastic anchor. Using the template along with a small torpedo level, find the correct right side location, level and mark it. Drill the hole and place your second anchor. Once you have attached your T screw you are ready to attach your first picture.

42 Attaching T Screws & Locking Pictures/Storyboards

43 Locking Down Your Pictures Once your T Screw has been installed make sure it is aligned vertically. Next hang your picture/storyboard. Finally, using the small included locking wrench, turn the T screw ¼ turn to securely lock the picture or storyboard to the wall. Note: Even though you may have used great care to ensure T screws and brackets are perfectly aligned, sometimes a tap with a hammer is needed. A few taps with a hammer is generally enough to help with the alignment of your screws so they can nest inside the picture bracket opening. Note: Before locking down your picture. Use the torpedo level to ensure picture is level. If not remove picture, tap T screw left, right, up or down then test again for level. Repeat until your picture is level.

45 Keep a hand broom ready to sweep away the brick dust left behind after drilling your many anchor holes. A shop vac is also handy. Tip: Do all your drilling before bringing images to the wall. You will have much less cleanup.
