1 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AP Armaflex & AP Armaflex FS Black Duct Liner (non-self adhesive) 2/18/11 Installation Instructions for Rectangular Duct Using Armaflex 520 Adhesive Temperature The temperature of the air and of the insulation should be between 40 O F and 100 O F at the time of the installation. Surface Preparation Surface to be insulated must be clean, and free of any loose particles, or other debris such as rust. Prepare the surface by thoroughly cleaning the entire surface with denatured alcohol. This must be done even for new sheet metal in order to remove all of the oil residue off the surface. Application of Armaflex to the Sheet Metal The use of retaining pins is not required when using Armaflex 520 Adhesive. Always use a sharp, non-serrated edge knife when making cuts and a straightedge. This will allow for even edge cuts on all seams and prevent possible gaps. Start by measuring the top of the duct, from side to side, then adding approximately ¼ to the measurement to insure a compression fit. Transfer this measurement to the Armaflex with a silver ink pen. Use a straightedge to make the cut. Pour the Armaflex 520 Adhesive into a standard paint roller tray. Cover with aluminum foil when not in use to prevent solvent loss. Using an adhesive roller or a short, stiff bristle brush, apply a thin, uniform coat of Armaflex 520 Adhesive to both the Armaflex surface as well as to the metal duct surface. Be certain there is 100% coverage on both surfaces. Installation Instructions for Rectangular Duct using Armaflex 520 Adhesive

2 Once the adhesive is tacky (not wet or dry) it is ready to be adhered. Start at one edge of the duct and align the outside edge of the Armaflex down onto the duct. Continue along, applying pressure to the entire length as it is being pressed down. When it is approximately 90% down, align the opposite edge tightly against the duct and press down, then press balance of insulation down flat. This will insure a tight, compressed fit at the edges. When all the Armaflex has been applied, be certain to apply full, even pressure along the entire surface with your hands or a weighted roller for best adhesion. Follow this method for all surfaces during the installation. Measure and install each side of the duct next. The sides will support the top insulation. Start by taking the measurement from the underside of the top piece of Armaflex previously installed to the bottom of the duct. Be certain to add approximately ¼ for compression fit. The final piece to be installed is the bottom section. Start by taking the measurement from one side up against the side piece previously installed, to the opposite side piece. Add approximately ¼ length for a tightly compressed fit to complete the installation. Fabricate templates for all the fittings, and transition pieces by tracing the metal fitting onto a piece of cardboard and then transferring the pattern to the Armaflex. Cut out with a sharp, nonserrated knife, and adhere the Armaflex onto the fitting piece with Armaflex 520 Adhesive. When the installation is complete, all adjoining edges must be installed under compression fit. No visible signs of gaps or voids should be present. To insure a proper Armaflex Duct Liner installation, do not deviate from above instructions. Use only a non serrated edge knife, and sharpen as needed to insure clean edges. Clean entire surface area prior to installing insulation. All adjoining edges and seams must be installed under the compression fit method in order to prevent any gaps. Use the adhesive according to product directions. Be certain that 100% adhesive coverage is used, and apply firm, even pressure to entire surface to attain full adhesion. 3 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AP Armaflex & AP Armaflex FS Black Duct Liner (non-self adhesive) 2/18/11 Installation Instructions for Rectangular Duct Using Armaflex Low VOC Spray Adhesive Temperature The temperature of the air and of the insulation should be between 40 O F and 100 O F at the time of the installation. Surface Preparation Surface to be insulated must be clean, and free of any loose particles, or other debris such as rust. Prepare the surface by thoroughly cleaning the entire surface with denatured alcohol. This must be done even for new sheet metal in order to remove all of the oil residue off the surface. Spraying the Adhesive Be certain that all the connections to the spray apparatus are secured, in order to prevent leakage. Protect all surrounding areas from Adhesive overspray. Apply a thin, uniform coat. Do not apply excessive amount of adhesive as this will affect the tack time. Overlap each sprayed area by approximately 1 in order to achieve complete coverage. Be sure to allow the adhesive to reach a state of tackiness before bonding the surfaces together. Once the adhesive is tacky and ready to be adhered, start at one edge of the duct and align the outside edge of the Armaflex down on the duct. Continue along, applying pressure to the entire length as it is being pressed down. When the Armaflex is approximately 90% down, align the opposite edge tightly against the duct and press down, then press the balance of the insulation down flat. This will insure a tight, compressed fit at the edges. When all the Armaflex has been applied, be certain to apply full, even pressure along the entire surface with your hands or a weighted roller for best adhesion. Start by taking the measurement from the underside of the top piece of Armaflex previously installed, to the bottom of the duct. Be certain to add approximately ¼ for compression fit. The final piece to be installed is the bottom section. Start by taking the measurement from one side up against the side piece previously installed, to the opposite side piece, again, adding approximately ¼ length for a tightly compressed fit to complete the installation. Fabricate templates for all the fittings and transition pieces by tracing the metal fitting onto a piece of cardboard, then transfer the pattern to the Armaflex. Cut out with a sharp, non-serrated knife and adhere the Armaflex onto the fitting piece with Armaflex 520 Adhesive. When the installation is complete, all adjoining edges must be installed under compression fit, no visible signs of gaps, or voids should be present. 5 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AP Armaflex & AP Armaflex FS Black Duct Liner (non-self adhesive) 8/09/11 Installation Instructions for Rectangular Duct Using Armaflex 520 BLV Adhesive Temperature The temperature of the air and of the insulation should be between 40 O F and 100 O F at the time of the installation. Surface Preparation Surface to be insulated must be clean and free of any loose particles or other debris such as rust. Prepare the surface by thoroughly cleaning the entire surface with denatured alcohol. This must be done even for new sheet metal in order to remove the oil residue off the surface. The surface of the Armaflex insulation must also be clean and free of any loose particles or other debris. Safety Provide adequate air flow in the immediate work area to allow solvents to dissipate while applying the adhesive. Application of Armaflex to the Sheet Metal The use of retaining pins is required when using Armaflex 520 BLV Adhesive. Shake and stir can of Armaflex 520 BLV Adhesive prior to use to insure a good mixing of solids. Pour Armaflex 520 BLV Adhesive into a standard paint roller tray, and cover with aluminium foil to prevent fumes from escaping. Installation Instructions for Rectangular Duct using Armaflex 520 BLV Adhesive

6 Use an adhesive roller, not a standard paint roller, as the roller nap will deteriorate upon contact with the solvent adhesive and contaminate the working surface. Apply the adhesive to both the Armaflex duct insulation and the sheet metal. In areas where a roller cannot reach, use a short, stiff bristle brush. Be certain to apply a thin, uniform coat of 520 BLV to both surfaces being adhered. Allow approximately four minutes to six minutes before bonding the surfaces together. These times will vary depending on ambient temperature at the time of application. Once the adhesive is ready to be adhered, start at one edge of the duct and align the outside edge of the Armaflex down on the duct. Continue along, applying pressure to the entire length as it is being pressed down. When the Armaflex is approximately 90% down, align the opposite edge tightly against the duct and press down, then press the balance of the insulation down flat. This will insure a tight, compressed fit at the edges. Prepare the surface by thoroughly cleaning the entire surface with denatured alcohol. This must be done even for new sheet metal in order to remove all of the oil residue off the surface. Application of Armaflex to the Sheet Metal Always use a sharp, non-serrated edge knife when making cuts and a straightedge. This will allow for even edge cuts on all seams and prevent possible gaps. Start by measuring the inside surface area of the duct. By using the same insulation thickness, cut a 2 wide strip, and wrap around the entire internal wall of the duct. Where the two pieces join on the inside, add approximately ¼ for a compressed fit at the butt edge. This is the measurement to transfer to the liner. Be careful not to stretch the strip- it should be loose fitting. Pour the Armaflex 520 Adhesive into a standard paint roller tray. Cover with aluminum foil when not in use to prevent solvent loss. Use an adhesive roller if adequate space, or a short, stiff bristle brush. Apply the 520 Adhesive to both the Armaflex surface, as well as the duct surface. Be certain there is 100% coverage on both surfaces. Be certain that the adhesive has become tacky before applying onto the duct.
