1 Service Bulletin: Cable Field Upgrade Prepared by: Emilie McWilliams, Don Stiemke, Bill Baier, Brian Nelson Date Prepared: 11/21/2018 Models Affected: G3-MSFT3; G3-MSFT4; G3- MS20, 40, 50, or 80; VS-VFT; MG-923, MG-924, MG-DP923, MG-DP924, MG-ADA23 IMPORTANT: Do not remove the old cable before beginning this procedure DESCRIPTION Use these instructions to replace a cable on an Aura functional trainer or multi-station; a Versa functional trainer; or a Magnum adjustable crossover or adjustable pulley. A redesigned cable is available starting 1/2019. The new cable is easier to replace than the original cable because, on the new cable, the components that make up the stopper(s) can be removed during assembly. The new design allows you to install the cable without removing the pulleys on the machine. 2 DESIGN CHANGE OVERVIEW You can identify whether a unit has the newest cable design by looking at the stopper. Original Cable Interim Cable New Cable The components below make up the stopper on the new cable (the cable assembly part number varies by machine; see Table 1 on page 5). 3 SOLUTION 1. Find the ends of the old cable and examine its path through the machine. Note: The photos in the examples below show the old style cable and cable ends. 4 2. Detach one end of the cable. Cables with one bolt end: Use wire clippers to cut the cable above the bolt. Cables with two stopper ends: i. If it is an old style cable, use wire clippers to cut either side. ii. If the unit already has the new style cable, remove the components from one of the stopper assemblies (reverse the instructions from Step 6). 3. Use electrical tape to attach the disconnected cable to the new cable. Make sure the connection is secure before starting Step 4. Old New 4. If applicable, secure the bolt end of the new cable into the bayonet. Carefully pull on the opposite end of the cable you are replacing until it comes out of the machine. This will thread the new cable through. 5. Check to make sure that the new cable is seated correctly on all pulleys. Once you have confirmed this, detach the old cable from the new cable. 4 Revision Date: 1/3/2019 Revised by: EM

5 6. Attach the components to the stopper end(s) of the new cable. a. Slide the ball stop and then the strain relief onto the cable. The strain relief fits inside the ball stop and extends out the other side. b. Place the cable end into the eyelet end fitting. Pull the ball up into the end fitting and line up the screw holes on the ball and fitting. c. Apply threadlocker (red) to the bolt. Next, use the 6mm Allen wrench to attach the sockethead screw and secure the assembly. 5 Revision Date: 1/3/2019 Revised by: EM

6 d. If the cable has one bolt end: i. Attach the bolt to the correct location (the weight stack or the carriage). Next, check the tension of the cable. Proper tension should leave 10mm of clearance between the stopper and carriage or pulleys, as shown in the tightest conditions. See diagrams below. MS & Versa Functional Trainer Aura Functional Trainer ii. If the stopper is too close to the carriage or pulley, use the adjustable wrench to loosen the bolt by a few threads. Important: A minimum number of threads must be engaged. Do NOT loosen any more threads if you can see 45mm of the bolt (measuring from the top). It is imperative that the jam nut on the bolt be tightened anytime an adjustment is made to secure the adjustment. 7. Pre-stretch or set the cable a. Attached a short handle to the ball end of the cable then pin lbs on the weight stack. b. Do 5-10 reps at a rapid rate but do not allow the weight stack to crash down. 7 c. Check the cable end measurement. Proper tension should leave 10mm of clearance between the stopper and carriage or pulleys as shown in Step d.i. in the tightest conditions. d.
