1 Stenoboard Assembly Instructions Full kit with assembled electronics Step 1 - Check that nothing is missing Parts: 1x Left frame 1x Right frame x Consonants keys x Vowels keys x Number keys 4x Pre-assembled PCBs 1x Arduino Leonardo 1x White alarm cable 13x Male to Female header cable 3x Female to Female header cable 3x Modified Female to Female header cable 0x Self-threading screws (,9mm x 13mm) 4x Self-threading screws (,9mm x 9mm) 3x Self-threading screws (,9mm x 6mm) 1x Anti-slip pad

2 Step Connect Main Right PCB to Arduino Parts: Main Right PCB Arduino 13x Male to Female header cables To do: If you place the Main Right PCB in front of you, you can see a 13 pins headers on the top right. Pins are enumerated from 0 to 1, starting from the left. Connect Arduino to the Main Right PCB according to the following table: Arduino pin Main Right pin GND Warning: failing to correctly connect the PCBs according to the previous table may result in permanent damage to Arduino.

3 Step 3 Connect Main Left PCB to Left Vowels PCB Parts: Main Left PCB Left Vowels PCB 3x Female to Female header cables To do: If you place the Main Left PCB in front of you, you can see a 3 pins headers on the bottom right. Pins are enumerated from 0 to, starting from the left. Similarly, on the Left Vowels PCB, you can see a 3 pins headers on the top, and pins are enumerated from 0 to, starting from the left. Connect the Main Left PCB to the Left Vowels PCB according to the following table: Main Left pin Left Vowels pin Warning: failing to correctly connect the PCBs according to the previous table may result in permanent damage to Arduino.

4 Step 4 Assemble Right Frame Parts: Electronics connected in Step 1x Right Vowels keys 1x Right Vowels PCB Right Frame 3x Modified Female to Female header cable 3x Self-threading screws (,9mm x 6mm) x Self-threading screws (,9mm x 9mm) 6x Self-threading screws (,9mm x 13mm) To do: Place Arduino on the bottom of the Right Frame and tighten the 6mm screws. IMPORTANT: DO NOT tighten them too much but very lightly or the screws will strip the holes; please follow this advice for all screws in this and subsequent steps. If you do strip any hole, you can put a dab of glue inside the hole before tightening the screw.

5 Place the Right Vowels PCB in the Right Frame and tighten the 9mm screws. Do the same for the Main Right PCB with 4x 13mm screws.

7 Place the Vowels keys in the frame and tighten the x 13mm screws.

8 Connect the Vowels PCB to the Main Right PCB according to the following table: Main Right pin Right Vowels pin

9 Warning: failing to correctly connect the PCBs according to the previous table may result in permanent damage to Arduino. Step 5 Assemble Left Frame Parts: Electronics connected in Step 3 1x Left Vowels keys Left Frame x Self-threading screws (,9mm x 9mm) 6x Self-threading screws (,9mm x 13mm) To do: Place the Left Vowels PCB in the Left Frame and tighten the 9mm screws. Do the same for the Main Left PCB with 4x 13mm screws.

10 Place the Vowels keys in the frame and tighten x 13mm screws.

11 Step 6 Final assembly Parts: Frames assembled in Step 4 and Step 5 x Consonants keys x Number keys 1x White Alarm cable 8x Self-threading screws (,9mm x 13mm) To do: If you place the Main Left PCB in front of you, you can see a 11 pins headers on the top right. Pins are enumerated from 0 to 10, starting from the left. Similarly, on the Main Right PCB, you can see a 11 pins headers on the top left, and pins are enumerated from 0 to 10, starting from the left. Connect the two PCBs with the white alarm cable according to the following table: Main Left pin Main Right pin

12 Warning: failing to correctly connect the PCBs according to the previous table may result in permanent damage to Arduino. Place the Consonants keys and Number keys on top of the left frame and tighten the screws. Do the same for right frame. Make sure that wires and cables do not touch the keys above them, otherwise some of the keys may require more force to trigger them.

14 Congratulations! You now have an assembled Stenoboard and can connect it to your PC. Don't forget to install the Arduino IDE before connecting Stenoboard: If you don't, Stenoboard may only work in NKRO-emulation mode and it may not be possible to update the firmware in the future. If that happens to you, you can fix it by restoring your computer to a previous restore point.
