1 Luminette PowerGlide 2.0 Starting in September, Luminette PowerGlide will ship with a brand new motor. The motor is twice as strong as the previous motor and it is five times quieter. Plus the motor is modular and can be separated from the headrail. As a matter of fact, when it is shipped, the motor is not attached to the headrail. PermAlign has a proven track record of smooth operation and exceptional durability. If the PermAlign headrail is chosen, the consumer has the choice of either chain tassel and cord tensioner or the Traveling Wand to traverse the shade and a chain control to rotate the vanes. The Paramount headrail has a wand/cord unit on the stack side.

5 Seven Years and Still Growing The Professional Installer Program SM (PIP) will have been in existence for seven years this coming fall. PIP launched in 2001 and has become a vital link for Hunter Douglas as it allows us to connect to installers and dealers through various means such as Technically Speaking and Installation Registration. In those seven years, the PIP program has evolved and has grown to better meet your needs but those changes will seem minor compared to the changes coming up in the next few months. Perhaps the most significant change to the program is the number of membership levels. In the past, there have been two levels: Professional Installer SM and Certified Professional Installer SM. We are expanding to three levels. The Professional Installer level will be expanded with E-Learning modules and videos being added to PIP Online. The Certified Professional Installer level will be renamed Certified Installer. In 2009, we will be adding a new level Master Installer SM. So what is a Master Installer? You can find the answer to this question and also learn more about the benefits of each level in a brochure we will be mailing out in the near future. Another big change is that we are totally revamping PIP Online our website for installers. It will have a brand new look but more importantly, it will have new resources for you to use. Certified Installers have had E-Learning modules available to them that use the same presentation materials used in certification training. Soon, they will be able to watch videos demonstrating repairs and adjustments on a variety of our products. For PIP members, we are expanding the library of E-Learning modules they can view, including our new Boot Camp series. These modules go through basic installation and adjustment techniques for a variety of our products. Our goal is to eventually have every Hunter Douglas product covered in a Boot Camp module. Plus there are special modules, such as Ladder Safety, and we will also be putting videos of product adjustments on the site. The way you log into PIP Online will also be changing. The new steps for logging will be described in the same brochure that outlines the new Professional Installer Program levels. So make sure you watch your mail for it, and make sure we have your current address by going to and clicking on the link My PIP Account. We are excited about these changes and new features as we know it will help the world s best installers become even better.

6 What Did You Do With YOUR Points? Each day, installers login to PIP Online to register their installations and in return, they earn points for providing us feedback on our products and their installation experience. Accrued points can be redeemed at the PIP Rewards Store for tools, clothing, accessories and our most popular item gift cards. Jenelle Moran, who manages the facilitation of the PIP Rewards program, recently had a request which she found rather surprising; an installer wanted to redeem his points for the $100 gift card from Lowe s home improvement store. But not just one gift card, he wanted 14 of them! She never had a request quite like this before so she contacted the installer to confirm his redemption request. That installer was Tom Yasuoka who owns Drapery Installation by Tom. Tom confirmed the order and out of curiosity, Jenelle asked him if he was planning on buying tools for his business. Tom laughed and said: No, I am going to build a deck for my house. Jenelle asked him to send a picture of the deck once it was completed and he did. Thanks, Tom! So what are you using your points for? You are registering your installations, aren t you? Remember, you earn points for every installation you register. 8 Pirouette Indexing Pirouette window shadings have had a very successful product launch. Consumers are snapping up these innovative window shadings. Dealers and installers should know that Pirouette shadings are indexed from the top, which means that the bottom panel of the shading will vary in height depending on the drop of the shading. It is important that this be pointed out to the consumer during the sales process, if they will be installed in windows of different height. This characteristic of the product is referenced in the sample book, and in various marketing collateral. When the fabric is manufactured, the accuracy of each vane placement is approximately the thickness of two business cards. However, even with this tight tolerance, the vane location on a 72" drop shade can vary as much as 3/4" between rolls of fabric. In addition to manufacturing tolerances, fabrication has a 1/8" variation due to the fabric cutting process. This limits our ability to guarantee equal bottom fabric panel heights. Side-by-side shadings can be ordered with guaranteed bottom panel length if the shadings are: 1. Ordered at the same time 2. Are the same height 3. Are of the same mounting style and the same fabric and color Here is a tip: If you have two shadings that are within 3/8" of each other in height, you should order the longer height for both to ensure the bottom panel lengths will be equal.

10 September 2008 Electronic Reference Guide Now Available The fully updated the Professional Installer Program SM (PIP) Electronic Reference Guide is now available. The guide has specifications installers need to know, such as mounting requirements, size specifications, finished dimensions, images of installation brackets with part numbers and more. The guide does not include pricing information. The PIP Reference Guide can be displayed on your Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), PocketPC, Macintosh and Windows computers, and even on a variety of cell phones. All users of the guide will have the update ed to them the first week of September. If you are not currently using the this electronic reference guide, you can get it at the PIP Rewards Store (at PIP Online) for only 300 reward points. Once you are at the store page, search the word reference. When the Full-Line Reference Guide undergoes major updates, you will receive an with the updated version it.

11 Dave Shafer, CPI Instructor With the announcement of the fall Certified Professional Installer SM (CPI) training schedule, we thought you might want to learn about one of the four instructors that conduct the training. Dave Shafer is a Training Specialist with the Professional Installer Program SM. He has been part of the Hunter Douglas Customer Education and Development Group (CEDG) since Dave joined the group specifically to be part of the CPI program and has taught well over 3,000 installers since coming on board. In addition to training with CPI, Dave is one of our Motorization experts and teaches a class titled Motorization Momentum with fellow CPI instructors Rob Powell and Dan DeBuhr. If you attend the CPI training this fall, you can attend this motorization class for free. Prior to joining CEDG, Dave was a Sales Engineer for the Hunter Douglas Technical Services Group. In that position, he traveled the world to assist fabricators with setting up and maintaining their fabrication equipment and trained personnel how to fabricate shades and proper inspection techniques. Other responsibilities included troubleshooting and repairing shades at both the Window Fashions Division and across the U.S. This included travel to assist in installations requiring a high level of knowledge and expertise. Dave has a very diverse career background including working for a company that performed research and development in the mineral, chemical and energy fields. He also worked for an industrial gas supplier and a floor maintenance equipment manufacturer.

12 No More Guessing The Hunter Douglas wood blinds brand team has taken the guesswork out of determining custom return valance lengths for IB blinds with OB valances. They have created an easy-to-use slide rule calculator for wood and alternative wood blinds. On the face of the calculator are easy to follow instructions on how use it.
