1 One Act Vignette Project In groups of 2 you will be writing your own synopses, character bios, and one act vignettes. Your vignette may be designed in one of three forms: a play, a puppet show, a dance/music production (must include dialogue). Then, in groups of 8 you will decide on one vignette to perform for exhibition night. Here is the tentative schedule: 2/16 2/17 Study one act plays. Determine characteristics of good one act plays. Read/view samples. 2/18 2/22 Write synopses 2/22 Synopsis due 2/23 2/25 Write character bios 2/25 Character bios due 2/26 3/5 Write vignettes 3/5 1 st draft vignette due 3/8 3/10 Revise vignettes 3/10 Final vignettes due 3/11 Select vignettes to produce 3/12 3/19 Rehearse vignettes 3/22 3/25 Dress rehearsals 3/25 EXHIBITION NIGHT

2 The assignment: You and your group members have become members of your civilization. You come into contact with members of another civilization. Show the story. First, you will create a synopsis for a vignette. Second, you will develop two character bios for two character in your vignette. Then you will write a script telling the story of this encounter. Your vignette should involve enough characters so everyone plays a part. You must also have a stage manager/director. This person will not act, but they are responsible for making sure the show goes smoothly as well as running rehearsals. You and your group of 8 will gather to read the synopses and scripts. You must decide on one script to perform for exhibition. Once the script is selected, you will rehearse, create settings, design costumes, and prepare to share your vignette on exhibition night

3 One Act Play Project Creating your Synopsis and Characters Synopsis and Character List Due: Tuesday 2/23 Character Bio Due: Friday 2/26 Synopsis: Your synopsis must include a thorough description of the following: Tone Theme(s) Plot (Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution) Conflict (internal character conflict, external character conflict, character vs. character conflict, etc) Setting (historical context and how it affects your plot and characters Characters: TWO character bios must be developed and written which include the following: Name, Age, Gender Personality/Characteristics Strengths/Weaknesses Goals/Interests/Passions Role in the plot Conflicts (internal, external, etc.) Relationships with other characters (or non existing characters)

4 Connection to setting! All of the above assignments (3 products) should be written in paragraph form, with proper grammar, punctuation, spelling. Be sure to edit/revise the work you submit before you turn it in. Student Examples:

The neighborhood bully is a vicious dog, so don t go outside to play by yourself. Onomatopoeia Sounds are spelled out as words or words represent sounds they describe The car wooshed by going 25 miles per hour over the speed limit.

8 Personification Inanimate objects are given human qualities While I was making bacon for breakfast, my dog sat by my side and asked kindly if he could share some.
