Peer editing is when one of your fellow classmates or writers reviews and edits your work. This is great for getting feedback and constructive criticism from another person. It can give you new ideas on how to improve your writing and also help you refine your work so the finished essay, story, or article is perfect. Some common mistakes to look for when peer editing are missing words, spelling, and grammar mistakes usually associated with the verb tenses (past, present, and future). 11 Using the Inverted Pyramid A news story is written this way so that if the story needs to be shortened to fit onto a newspaper page, the least important information can be cut off the bottom without affecting the sense of the story. Read the Hansel and Gretel story. Skim the story for the 5 W s and circle the information. Beside the inverted pyramid below, re-write the story. In the top third write the most important information. In the middle put supporting information and background to the story. In the bottom third include the least important information. Once upon a time, on the edge of a great forest, there lived a very poor woodcutter with his wife and two children, Hansel and Gretel.
