2 Executive Producer Executive producers are responsible for ensuring the overall quality and success of the TV production. They will ensure the film is completed within the specified deadline, within the production s budget allocation, and make sure that the finished product meet the standards of the commissioner s specifications. In major productions, they may be a representative or CEO of the production s film studio. In smaller companies (or independent projects) they may be the writer or creator of the production. Typically, Executive Producers are not heavily associated with the technical aspects of the filmmaking procedure. Some skills that an executive producers need to possess are skills such as being able to make smart judgments with finances, pitching and marketing skills, teamworking and leadership skills.

3 Producer A producer a very vital crew member of the media industry. A producer will moderate or manage every project from the start to the end and may also be involved in the process of marketing and distribution. Producers work closely with directors and other production staff during pre production when the actual production is underway (during which the producers are responsible for making sure that all work is operating smoothly). Producers also work with crew members such as the editor during post production. Increasingly, they need to have directing skills themselves as the producer may also be the director and may take care of all project operations. Producers arrange funding for each project and are responsible for keeping the production within the allocated budget. The salary of a producer can be from 18,000 to 80,000 per annum between starting, experienced producers compared to the varied salaries of freelance producers

4 Writer Writers writers are involved in the creation and development of the production. Most writers work freelance and are self-employed. As income from writing may be low, most writers supplement their income with other related activities such as author visits, workshops, events and readings. In addition many writers manage their writing work alongside full or part time jobs which may be related to their writing (such as lecturing on creative writing courses) or entirely unrelated.

5 Commissioning editor Commissioning editors have the responsibility of buying new authors, documents or scripts, propositions or recommendations for things such as reviews, articles, magazines, newsletters and papers. For TV and films commissioning editors have the role of using and bringing content for the viewers. For example, ITV uses commissioning for the people with channels such as ITV 1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, ITV Be, ITV Encore, CITV (for the children) and ITV.com for all to access or look at content online. These channels broadcast different things such as sports, lifestyle, and drama for their various audiences to enjoy

6 Screenwriter Screenwriters are the ones behind the creation of the screenplay. Screenwriters have to be very creative and meet the strict deadlines that have been set. Some screenwriters work with a script development team to complete the product that is likely to be made and funded. Most screenwriters are freelance screenwriters meaning that they would generally pitch their ideas to the producer(s). If all goes well for the freelancer, the idea could be bought, an alternative or taken into consideration. If not then the idea may be rejected. Screenwriters should be able to handle rejection and not let this hold them back, but help them try again and try harder, this shows the screenwriter s dedication

7 Agent An agent is a worker that represents their client in the media industry. The represented client could be a performer such as a singer, actor, actress or presenters. In order for the agent to work well with their clients, they need to obtain communication, teamworking and co-operational skills in order to develop chemistry with their client and work well with them.

8 Watershed The watershed is a period of time when companies are allowed to post more mature content. In the UK, the watershed starts from 9pm and end at 5:30am for free programs while pay for view channels have more relaxed laws and can be presented between 8pm until 6am. 18+ rated programmes have jarring restrictions starting at 10pm expect on channels which are dedicated to 18+ programming such as horror which can start at 9pm. (Much of the mature content that occurs before the watershed are often censored.) The watershed was introduced in the year of The watershed protects children from distressing imagery, sexual content, violence and swearing. These watershed times were set specifically to be around the same time children are supposedly meant to go to sleep.
