2 Unique Lithuanian masks Lithuania, EuroBasket 2011 host country, will have its special touch in the exclusive merchandise collection, based on the various applications of modern Lithuanian masks. The masks image, used throughout the collection, is an arty interpretation of ethnographic heritage of Lithuania traditional Mardi Gras characters. Mardi Gras ( Užgavenes in Lithuania, Fat Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday in other countries) refers to carnival celebrations, beginning on or after Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. The masks are attributes of ceremonies and sports is a kind of a ceremony as it involves various rituals. The Mardi Gras, the masqueraders act like the intermediaries between our materialistic and the spiritual world. They are the mystified creatures, hiding under the veil of a secret, which arouses interest and stirs intrigue. The unique collection encompasses products from cardboard masks for sports fans to exclusive business gifts. It discovers a way for basketball fans to welcome competitors armed with the masks and the rattles (ancient noise-making instruments) as well as differentiate themselves dressed by a distinct mix of traditional and modern design textile (shirts, caps and bracelets).

It is possible that the negative features of the image emerged after the baptism of Lithuania, namely during the time of the spread of witch courts in Europe. GOAT BEAR WITCH Devil Origins of this distinctly mythical character are linked with one of the most important gods of the Indo-European nation the image of Velinas. It was the patron of livestock, which explains various characteristics of the Devil: horns, hooves and the tail. 12 Masks and amulets reincarnation for the victory Our ancestors sought to link themselves with mythical heroes and deities using masks and amulets, ensuring their support and empowerment to overcome obstacles in life. Amulet ensures the link to mythical heroes and their powers, while mask guarantees magic reincarnation into the hero, aliasing with it and adopting its powers. Ancestors called amulets Seitai or Saitai (which means link in English). The name of amulet itself explains its purpose: a link is invisible connection, tying the owner of amulet with deities. People in primordial societies decorated their bodies and clothes with the teeth and claws of hunted animals, overtaking the courage and power of the beast. According to legends, ancestor warriors converted into wolfs, so they were animalized during the battles. This is the changed state of consciousness that is initiated by a man with the help of amulets and other magic signs. Then people trust the power of the guardian, they ignore biggest dangers and perform greatest accomplishments in calmness without any fear. In short, the purpose of both amulet and mask is to set ourselves for victory, which has to be achieved first within us only then we can go and win the battle.
