On a hot summer night, the young Ainhoa, daughter of the local mayor, has a date with someone at one of the greenhouses, popularly known as the plastic sea. Suddenly, there s a blackout in the district and the young woman is brutally attacked in the dark. The following morning, the crops appear watered with blood. The Ainhoa s dead body is soon found. It was neither a crime of passion nor an accident. Everything seems to indicate that her macabre murder was meticulously planned and executed. That same day, Hector Aguirre, Chief of the Judicial Police, arrives in town. Hector is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan with a troubled past, both personally and professionally. This case is the most difficult and dangerous investigation in his career. Hector becomes obsessed with deciphering the motives that led the murderer to perpetrate the crime, an obsession that also serves to appease his own inner demons. Someone has murdered the girl. 4 The first thing that stuck out in tackling the photo design for Plastic Sea was the implacable sun and the sweltering heat present throughout Almeria. It s no coincidence that this is considered the warmest region in Europe. That is why warm tones were taken to the extreme in order to generate a sense of tension and suffocation in a place where no one is who they appear to be. José Luis Pecharromán was Director of Photography on Plastic Sea, a thriller in which the characters are all struggling to survive in a harsh and hostile environment. The abundant light and sunshine have given the drama an 180º twist compared to other detective series shot using low light and a cold dark ambiance. This inversion of the cliché, along with the extensive use of extreme long shots, is what gives the series its exclusive and very personal appeal. This way, the photography becomes a key element to create the special atmosphere of this breathless Mediterranean thriller. The music in Plastic Sea was born of the heat, tension, suspicion and death. Above all, it was born of the characters pain. Electricity and acoustic reverberation combine with a stifling atmosphere that accompanies the intrigue and action, managing to stir viewers in their seats. Classic instruments along with other unclassifiable instruments that are harder to identify go beyond the geographical location and work together to serve the plot. Beauty also has its place in the music. But, like that very sea, which is not made of water but rather of plastic, this beauty is a treacherous traitor. It s a sort of beauty that is full of reflections, that plays on ambiguity and traps us with its poisonous harmony.

5 Rodolfo Sancho is Hector Aguirre. The New Chief of the Judicial Police Hector has just arrived at Campoamargo in order to take over the Judicial Police Department at the Civil Guard Headquarters. He is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, where a traumatic experience provoked radical changes in him. Hector investigates Ainhoa s murder without rest; he is determined to get to the bottom of this case come hell or high water. Luis Fernández is Salva Morales. Sergeant in the Civil Guard Civil Guard, member of the Judicial Police Department, and one of Hector s assistants. He knows the village well. Salva is single and loves weapons, cars, speed and action films. He s a bit of a bigmouth and his indiscretions actually jeopardize the investigation. Belén López is Marta Ezquerro. The widowed wife of Hector s best friend The widowed wife of Pablo, Hector s best friend, Marta is wholeheartedly devoted to her son Nacho, a very troubled and rebellious 11-year-old who has not yet gotten over his father s death. Marta works for the Town Council as an agricultural engineer, so she takes orders from the mayor. Her job has led her to confront both her boss and Juan Rueda. Will Shephard is Kaled. Leader among the migrant workers Kaled represents the migrant workers in Campoamargo. He serves as an intermediary between the boss and the workers. Kaled is a very proud man who is hugely talented and very intelligent. Jesús Castro is Lucas. Ainhoa s boyfriend The son of the owner of the local bar and Ainhoa s long-time boyfriend, Lucas is traditional and hard working. He had a difficult childhood marked by the death of his mother and an alcoholic father. He is sexist and racist and thinks immigrants are to blame for crime and insecurity in the village and are a danger to women. Ainhoa s mother has always thought Lucas wasn t good enough for her daughter. Yaima Ramos is Fara. Kaled s sister Fara has only been in Spain for six months. Although life has not been at all kind to her, her brother has always done his best to soften its blows for her. She is very homesick and, despite her brother s efforts to help her fit in, she is also very lonely. Nya de la Rubia is Lola Requena. Civil Guard Pedro Casablanc is Juan Rueda. The village landlord Gypsy. A brave and tenacious woman with a strong character who won t let anyone or anything intimidate her. She is a woman of action and has nothing to envy any man when it s time for a fight. Her decision to become a Civil Guard has turned her into an outcast among the gypsy community. Juan Rueda is one of the most influential people in the region, owner of most of the greenhouses and the village s main benefactor. No one dares criticize him in public, because they ve either been bought out or are somehow indebted to him. Juan Rueda is hated and loved in equal measure. He is married to his second wife, Agneska, a much younger Russian woman. Patrick Criado is Fernando Rueda. Juan Rueda s youngest son Disobedient and rebellious, Fernando has never gotten along with his father or his stepmother. They sent him off to boarding school as a small boy and he has just gotten back from school. No one and nothing matters to him, except his older brother, Sergio. Lisi Linder is Agneska The Russian Woman. Juan Rueda s second wife Agneska is calculating and has delusions of grandeur. She is enchanted by luxury, the good life and glamour, and she thought being married to a rich businessman would be more exciting, but the fact is that she s depressed and incredibly bored in the village.

6 Eva Martín is Carmen Almunia. The town s mayor Carmen has served as the town s mayor for the past three terms. She feels she has outgrown the position and aspires to move on to Madrid as a regional representative. In order to achieve this goal, Carmen puts her career ahead of everything, including her family and the village itself.
