2 Charlie Rauccio Pres. A Word from the Pres. Well, we just past the ½ way mark of my term. I truly hope I am the president this club needed and doing what is expected of me. I now have members coming up to me saying how much they like the direction we are headed. I even had a few members use the phrase MACC is on the move. MACC is on the move, Larry s Back Road Bunch is getting better every month and is on the move. MACC NIGHT OUT- attendance growing every month, and is on the move. Attendance at meetings, January -34 degrees, 71 people show up at the meeting, February meeting raining (hard) 42 show up at the meeting. We now have 154 registered members. Did someone say MACC is on the move? We now have all the car shows and cruse-in s coming up. It s time to show these other clubs what being in MACC is all about. I m hoping to show up at these shows 20, 30, 40, cars strong. All lined up, MACC colors flying, MACC flag flying. This is the MACC club, the MACC family. This is what you joined. This is your club. We proved it towards the end of last year. We don t go to car shows. WE ARE THE CAR SHOW. Go MACC Club Pres. Charlie
3 Dean Rogers VP I I want to say thank you to all the club members who helped in any way with the club display at the World of Wheels in Birmingham. The 8 cars in the display brought home 5 first place trophies in their class and runner-ups to the others. The Yellow Fellows Display entrants all received runner-up trophies as well. We also brought home this year the Best club display with extra money for magic moments. It was a proud moment for me to see all the MACC cars walking (driving) away with trophies. Representing the club as they presented the plaque for 1 st Place really was a highlight for me. The money raised for Magic Moments will be a blessing for the children who benefit. We continue our fun, and journey, with our focus solely on the Vette Spectacular on May 18th at the Zamora Shrine. The inside spots for the Vette Spectacular are filled. Only outside parking is available. The focus will now be sponsorships, trophies and work flow for the various aspects of the show. We need all members who can participate and help to let us know, so we can slot you in with a club member who has a responsibility. For example, parking, kitchen, registration day of, etc. are groups that need help. Simply reply back to my address below and look for s. The next MACC meeting we will discuss further, as well a schedule. Key club members that are heading up these groups will be looking for some help. I look forward to seeing our new members lending a helping hand. At the end of the day it s about having fun, spending time with new and old friends and raising money for Magic Moments. Also, you might want to think about sponsoring a trophy/award this year if you have not in the past. There will be many more s to come about the 36 th Annual Vette Spectacular Car Show. Let s have fun, Dean VP Rogersfour@aol.com

9 Back Roads Bunch Written By Larry E. Linley A special thanks to the Day Out and Luncheon bunch that braved the rain on our most recent outing; Dwain & Tricia Lawrence, Maria & Tommy Hull, Jeff & Kate Benedict, Steve & Carol Vaughn, Jimmy & Jackie Walker, and Ken Williamson along with Cheryl and I, a great group of daring and determined MACC members. Rain, rain and even more rain came down upon us as if our group was being targeted from above. Following an hour drive from Birmingham on I65 North, we exited onto Highway 157 North where we rendezvoused with Jimmy and Jackie Walker, then another hour later we arrived to our first destination; The Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Immediately turning into the parking lot we were greeted by several photo shots of each approaching Corvette. Stepping down from under the covered walkway was Mrs. Mary Carton, a local Professional Photographer, who photographed and wrote articles for two local publications; The Grit Magazine Blogger of Tuscumbia, Remember Tuscumbia and the local Facebook. After our introduction we entered The Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Inside we met the Chief Curator, Mr. John Moseley, who directed us to the Gallery. We were amazed at the portraits of 73 paintings of musical giants of every kind, writers, producers, musicians, TV stars who were from the great state of Alabama. Headliners such as, Nat King Cole, Emmy Lou Harris, Tammy Wynette, Jim Neighbors, and 71 others, that you'll have to discover yourself. Mr. Moseley was so knowledgeable of each person portrayed it was if he knew them personally. Each corner you turned were countless costumes, guitars, awards, gold records and so on. The group Alabama touring bus, Happy Hal Burns, golden 1969 Pontiac, complete with the 45 caliber western six shooters for door handles, a silver dollar steering wheel, and his famous complete saddle for a center consol. Another turn and there was the complete actual stage of "Country Boy Eddie". Seniors, such as we are and who were raised in Alabama can remember Country Boy s morning show on WBRC CHANNEL 6, Birmingham early morning market. He holds the record for the longest running live early morning TV program in the United States. But wait there's more: the original recording equipment from the Fame Studio, where you could select a song from the provided listing, sing it and it will be recorded for a mere $ There wasn't anyone in our group who would select and sing a song...i was tempted to do so and personally wanted to sing and record one song I found in their listings, " The Only Thing That Looks Good On You, Is Me!" But time was up. : Leaving the Hall of Fame and modern entertainment we drove six miles to our second stop, The Belle Mont Mansion. As we were driving up the curved country lane to the mansion, low and behold Mrs. Carton from the fore mentioned publications was taking more photos of our cars. What a pleasant surprise again. Parking our vehicles and entering the mansion, we just moved backwards in time of 200 years. This mansion was built in the early 1800 hundreds. We were greeted by two most gracious ladies, Mrs. Ninon Parker, Site Director and Stephanie Baker, Site Manager. The wealth of knowledge these two ladies had of this beautiful old home was remarkable. Each room is filled with heirlooms of that period and some from the original builders personal belongings of DR. Alexander Williams Mitchell. This old home is an outstanding example of Thomas Jefferson's influence and patterned after his home in Virginia, it is referred to as a Jeffersonian Style. The two levels of the home was built for a large family, with several children. It originally was built upon 2600 acres of prime farming land to produce a bountiful crop of vegetables, corn, cotton, and animals. There were originally 13 slave homes on the property which housed 110 slaves each. Apparently a large number of workers were needed to operate and produced these items to survive.
10 Back Roads Bunch : Trip continues The state of Alabama took possession of Belle Mont from the late families descendants in Countless hours were spent researching its history colors of rooms were analyzed and proper color matches were made. This home was and still is a work in progress. Our tour guide, Mrs. Stephanie Baker, and Mrs. Ninon Parker, without her planning and kind hospitality this visit would not have been possible. Our visit to Belle Mont was timed with the 200 th year celebration of Alabama s Statehood, December 1819, the 22 nd State. As we departed the 19th Century and drove back into the 21st Century, we headed east to the Freight House Restaurant in Hartselle. We seated as close the to the log burning fire place as possible each still damp, cold and hungry and anticipating a warm and delicious meal. We were not disappointed. The Freight House is a wonderful place to dine or luncheon with a tremendous atmosphere. A special touch is a fast moving train that absolutely blows by Our service was great, our meal delicious and we were happy. As we are all aware, with the time change the sun sets sooner, (if we could ever see it again) and so it was, time for us to depart. We headed south on I65 As we settled into each Corvette my mind and probably others in the group were thinking, this was the best DAY OUT yet! One last thought there is an old song written many years ago, "Stars Fell On Alabama", folks let me tell you, it wasn't stars that fell on us... God Bless you all...and enjoy the journey.
