2 What is FIRST? For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology A program founded by Dean Kamen to inspire youth to enter STEM fields

3 Ages 6-9 Ages 9-14 Grades 7-12 Grades 9-12 Design and build a challenge-related model using LEGO components. Create a Show-Me poster and practice presentation skills. Strategize, design, build, program, and test a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology. Create innovative solutions for challenges facing today s scientists as part of their research project. Design and build an 18x18x18in robot. Controlled by customprogrammed Android devices. Compete and cooperate in alliances at tournaments. Build and compete with a 120lb robot of their own design. Learn and use sophisticated hardware and software. Travel to regional competitions and compete against teams from all over the world.

4 FIRST Teams in Rockford Rockford Robotics is a community team with public, private, and homeschool students Over 12 schools represented in FIRST Teams in RPS 205 Schools Several homeschool and private school FTC and FLL teams 4 other FRC teams in the Greater Rockford Region

5 About FRC 6 weeks to design, build, program, and test 120 lb, varying-height robot Industrial control system, custom design and fabrication Awards for design and community impact Working in the shop 15 hours a week

6 About FTC All robots must fit within an 18 cube Five months to design and build a competition ready robot Engaging students in the "robotics experience" at a reduced cost 10 hour per week commitment
