3 Software specifications Functional specification is the set of documentation that describes the behavior of a computer program or larger software system. The documentation typically describes various inputs that can be provided to the software system and how the system responds to those inputs

9 Design Goals It was shown that electrical signals can effectively stimulate uterus contraction which leads to stopping postpartum hemorrhaging due to uterine atony.[a] Our team is working on creating a device that will allow a nurse to manually create electrical signals, most likely from a hand-cranking mechanism that will stimulate muscle contraction of the patient. The device will be designed for developing nations, with these main goals in mind: Inexpensive Easy to use Able to be stored for extended periods of time Able to function without electricity Cause uterine muscle contraction through electrical stimulation which ultimately causes blood coagulation.

10 Design Specifications Anticipated environment for the device This device is intended to be use in a hospital or clinical setting in developing countries, for specific use of hospital or clinical personnel in the case of postpartum hemorrhaging due to uterine atony. Function of the product With the power generated from the solar panels or hand crank unit, the battery will provide a stable source of electric current to be delivered to the uterine muscle via the electrodes. The electric current will then stimulate the muscle to contract, which will then compress the blood vessels and stop the bleeding.

11 Tolerances and Parameters Necessary for Product to Function Effectively To effectively stop postpartum hemorrhaging due to uterine atony in developing countries through electrical stimulation the device must have the following components: Hand cranked or solar powered Two Electrodes Frequency between 5 Hz and 30 Hz Current amplitude between 0.01 ma and 40 ma Voltages ranging from 0.1mV to about 100 V Pulse duration of 0.01sec to 30 min Pulse width ranging from 0.1ms to 1000 ms Pulse train duration ranging from 1s to 10,000s
