1 Wireless Data Gathering Panel MODEL TS0825 Wireless Data Gathering Panel: Model TS0825 INSTALLATION GUIDE The TS0825 Wireless Data Gathering Panel may be installed up to 1.5km from the Challenger panel to provide cable free installation of devices such as PIR's, Smoke Detectors, Wide Gap and Universal transmitters, Single and Multi-Button pendants and Glass Break detectors. The WDGP is used to expand the Challenger by up to 16 or 32 inputs. Transmitters have a range of up to 600 metres given ideal conditions. Receiver Antenna: See Page 2 for details. Installation Information: As this is a radio receiving device, all considerations given to locating a receiving antenna should be observed in order to obtain maximum effectiveness. The location of the TS0825 will be dependant on the coverage required and the type of building construction. A building of high metal content for example, may give a reduced coverage, therefore additional DGPs may be necessary to cover the total area. A general recommendation is to locate the TS0825 central to ALL transmitters and orient the antenna to face the transmitters farthest from the TS0825. Prior to installation, it may be helpful to use the Inovonics FA715 Survey Kit to determine transmission characteristics at the application site. The survey kit helps installers to determine optimal locations and orientation of the TS0825 and Inovonics FA-series tranmitters. The Inovonics FA525 Intelligent Repeater may be used to solve range or transmission problems. Ensure that the enclosure is mounted on a solid, flat surface remote from large metal objects. More detailed information regarding the location of receivers and transmitters is provided in the Inovonics Technical Presentation booklet available through Direct Alarm Supplies (DAS). Power Comms & Tamper Connections J1: J1 DC: + Positive and Negative connections to the LAN 12 volt supply - Maximum current drawn by the WDGP is 12 Volts DC NOTE: A separate power supply should be used if the WDGP is located more than 100 meters from the Challenger panel. J1 LAN: D+ RS485 Data positive and negative connection. May be up to 1.5km from D- the Challenger panel. (See Connection diagram on page 4.) J1 Tamper: T Input and Common connection for the panel Tamper Switches. C Short circuit for seal or Open circuit for unseal. (Must be sealed if not used) Can only be used with closed contacts. 3 Terminal should be connected to the common earth wire run with the LAN cable back to the Challenger Panel. In the case were the WDGP LAN may be isolated from the Challenger LAN, the Earth Terminal should be connected to the local supply earth. Mounting: The unit is mounted via screws through the 4 holes provided in the base. The IP55 rating can be maintained only if the 4 plastic plugs are installed over the mounting screw heads. Proper cable gland entries must be used to maintain the IP rating. Tamper Switch: The Wireless DGP enclosure is fitted with two tamper switches. If the rear Tamper switch is required to operate: Cover: (1) Drill an 8mm hole (minimum size) in the base of the enclosure as shown by the drilling template on page 5. The rounded end of the Tamper switch arm should nest freely in the hole. (2) Install a small screw into the mounting surface on which the Enclosure is to be mounted. This should protrude through the hole and be 8mm + 1mm above the enclosure mounting surface. See diagram on page 5. (3) Note that when the Enclosure is mounted, the screw will hold the rear Tamper switch closed. (4) If both Tamper switches are to be used, connect both Normally Open contacts in series and then connect them into the Tamper input of the Wireless DGP. The WDGP cover may be removed by removing the four corner screws. NOTE: When removing the cover after the system is installed, be aware that Tamper alarms are fitted to detect cover removal. Input Numbering: The WDGP can be programmed to have 16 or 32 radio inputs. See the Programming Guide for details regarding changing the number of inputs. Communication and Programming LEDs: RxD: RxD (Yellow) LED flashing or dimly lit, indictaes polling data being received on the LAN from the Challenger Panel. No flashing RxD LED indicates the LAN is not connected or a LAN fault (usually cabling) or the Challenger Panel is not operating. TxD: TxD (Red) LED flashing indicates the WDGP is replying to polling from the Challenger Panel. Wireless Data Gathering Panel : Model TS0825 Issue I Revision I: January

PRG: PRG (Green) LED flashes once when the transmitted device has been programmed correctly. (See Programming Guide Page 5 "Programmer Setup Option") Dip Switch Settings: WDGP address. In a "star" wiring configuration the "TERM" link is only fitted on the devices at the ends of the two longest LAN cable runs. NOTE 2: Recommended cable for Challenger LAN is Belden 8723, 2 pair twisted shielded data cable. NOTE 3: The Shield of each length of data cable is normally connected at one end only. Where the WDGP is installed in an electrical noise sensitive environment, all shields must be connected to a good earth at both ends. NOTE 4: The Earth Terminal on every piece of equipment in the system, must be properly earthed by connecting them all to one common earth point via a separate Earth wire run with the LAN to the Challenger Panel. The separate Earth wire must be at least 2.5mm2. A heavier gauge is recommended for runs over 500 metres. To meet EMC standards for Information Technology equipment EN55022 or AS/NZS3548, this method of earthing must be implemented. It will also ensure that the difference in earth potential between any Challenger product connected to the LAN, remains at an acceptable minimum at times when the system is subjected to high electrical noise stress. 4 TS0825IN.P65 Issue I Revision I: January 1999
