18 Safety Preautions!CAUTI Do not touh the terminals while power is being supplied. Doing so may oasionally result in minor injury due to eletri shok. Do not allow piees of metal, wire lippings, or fine metalli shavings or filings from installation to enter the produt. Doing so may oasionally result in eletri shok, fire, or malfuntion. Do not use the produt where subjet to flammable or explosive gas. Otherwise, minor injury from explosion may oasionally our. Do not leave the able for the Support Software onneted to the produt. alfuntion may our due to noise in the able. Do not use the Temperature Controller or Conversion Cable if it is damaged. Doing so may oasionally result in minor eletri shok or fire. Never disassemble, modify, or repair the produt or touh any of the internal parts. inor eletri shok, fire, or malfuntion may oasionally our. CAUTI - Risk of Fire and Eletri Shok a) This produt is UL listed as Open Type Proess Control Equipment. It must be mounted in an enlosure that does not allow fire to esape externally. b) ore than one disonnet swith may be required to de-energize the equipment before serviing the produt. ) Signal inputs are SELV, limited energy. d) Caution: To redue the risk of fire or eletri shok, do not interonnet the outputs of different Class 2 iruits. 2 If the output relays are used past their life expetany, ontat fusing or burning may oasionally our. Always onsider the appliation onditions and use the output relays within their rated load and eletrial life expetany. The life expetany of output relays varies onsiderably with the output load and swithing onditions. Tighten the terminal srews to between.74 and.9 N m. 3 Loose srews may oasionally result in fire. Set the parameters of the produt so that they are suitable for the system being ontrolled. If they are not suitable, unexpeted operation may oasionally result in property damage or aidents. A malfuntion in the produt may oasionally make ontrol operations impossible or prevent alarm outputs, resulting in property damage. To maintain safety in the event of malfuntion of the produt, take appropriate safety measures, suh as installing a monitoring devie on a separate line. A semiondutor is used in the output setion of long-life relays. If exessive noise or surge is impressed on the output terminals, a short-iruit failure is likely to our. If the output remains shorted, fire will our due to overheating of the heater or other ause. Take measures in the overall system to prevent exessive temperature inrease and to prevent fire from spreading. Do not allow piees of metal or wire uttings to get inside the able onnetor for the Support Software. Failure to do so may oasionally result in minor eletri shok, fire, or damage to equipment. Do not allow dust and dirt to ollet between the pins in the onnetor on the Conversion Cable. Failure to do so may oasionally result in fire. When inserting the body of the Temperature Controller into the ase, onfirm that the hooks on the top and bottom are seurely engaged with the ase. If the body of the Temperature Controller is not inserted properly, faulty ontat in the terminal setion or redued water resistane may oasionally result in fire or malfuntion. When onneting the Control Output Unit to the soket, press it in until there is no gap between the Control Output Unit and the soket. Otherwise ontat faults in the onnetor pins may oasionally result in fire or malfuntion.. An SELV iruit is one separated from the power supply with double insulation or reinfored insulation, that does not exeed 3 V r.m.s. and 42.4 V peak or 6 VDC. 2. A lass 2 power supply is one tested and ertified by UL as having the urrent and voltage of the seondary output restrited to speifi levels. 3. The tightening torque for E5CN-U is.5 N m. Preautions for Safe Use Be sure to observe the following preautions to prevent malfuntion or adverse affets on the performane or funtionality of the produt. Not doing so may oasionally result in faulty operation.. This produt is speifially designed for indoor use only. Do not use this produt in the following plaes: Plaes diretly subjet to heat radiated from heating equipment. Plaes subjet to splashing liquid or oil atmosphere. Plaes subjet to diret sunlight. Plaes subjet to dust or orrosive gas (in partiular, sulfide gas and ammonia gas). Plaes subjet to intense temperature hange. Plaes subjet to iing and ondensation. Plaes subjet to vibration and large shoks. 2. Use and store the produt within the rated ambient temperature and humidity. Gang-mounting two or more Temperature Controllers, or mounting Temperature Controllers above eah other may ause heat to build up inside the Temperature Controllers, whih will shorten their servie life. In suh a ase, use fored ooling by fans or other means of air ventilation to ool down the Temperature Controllers. 3. To allow heat to esape, do not blok the area around the produt. Do not blok the ventilation holes on the produt. 4. Be sure to wire properly with orret polarity of terminals. 5. Use the speified size (3.5, width 7.2 mm or less) rimped terminals for wiring. To onnet bare wires to the terminal blok, use stranded or solid opper wires with a gage of AWG24 to AWG4 (equal to a ross-setional area of.25 to 2.8 mm 2 ). (The stripping length is 5 to 6 mm.) Up to two wires of the same size and type or two rimp terminals an be inserted into a single terminal. 6. Do not wire the terminals that are not used. 7. To avoid indutive noise, keep the wiring for the produt s terminal blok away from power ables arry high voltages or large urrents. Also, do not wire power lines together with or parallel to produt wiring. Using shielded ables and using separate onduits or duts is reommended. Attah a surge suppressor or noise filter to peripheral devies that generate noise (in partiular, motors, transformers, solenoids, magneti oils, or other equipment that have an indutane omponent). When a noise filter is used at the power supply, first hek the voltage or urrent, and attah the noise filter as lose as possible to the produt. Allow as muh spae as possible between the produt and devies that generate powerful high frequenies (high-frequeny welders, high-frequeny sewing mahines, et.) or surge. 8. Use this produt within the rated load and power supply. 9. ake sure that the rated voltage is attained within two seonds of turning the power using a swith or relay ontat. If the voltage is applied gradually, the power may not be reset or output malfuntions may our..ake sure that the Temperature Controller has 3 minutes or more to warm up after turning the power before starting atual ontrol operations to ensure the orret temperature display. 8 Advaned Digital Temperature Controller E5CN-H

19 .When exeuting self-tuning, turn power to the load (e.g., heater) at the same time as or before supplying power to the produt. If power is turned to the produt before turning power to the load, self-tuning will not be performed properly and optimum ontrol will not be ahieved. 2.A swith or iruit breaker must be provided lose to the produt. The swith or iruit breaker must be within easy reah of the operator, and must be marked as a disonneting means for this unit..always turn the power supply before pulling out the interior of the produt, and never touh nor apply shok to the terminals or eletroni omponents. When inserting the interior of the produt, do not allow the eletroni omponents to touh the ase. 4.Do not use paint thinner or similar hemial to lean with. Use standard grade alohol..design the system (e.g., ontrol panel) onsidering the 2 seonds of delay that the produt's output to be set after power. 6.The output may turn when shifting to ertain levels. Take this into onsideration when performing ontrol. 7.The number of EEPRO write operations is limited. Therefore, use RA write mode when frequently overwriting data during ommuniations or other operations. 8.Always touh a grounded piee of metal before touhing the Temperature Controller to disharge stati eletriity from your body. 9.Do not remove the terminal blok. Doing so may result in failure or malfuntion. 2.Control outputs (for driving SSR) that are voltage outputs are not isolated from the internal iruits. When using a grounded thermoouple, do not onnet any of the ontrol output terminals to ground. (Doing so may result in an unwanted iruit path, ausing error in the measured temperature.) 2.When replaing the body of the Temperature Controller, hek the ondition of the terminals. If orroded terminals are used, ontat failure in the terminals may ause the temperature inside the Temperature Controller to inrease, possibly resulting in fire. If the terminals are orroded, replae the ase as well. 22.Use suitable tools when taking the Temperature Controller apart for disposal. Sharp parts inside the Temperature Controller may ause injury. 23.Before onneting an Output Unit, onfirm the speifiations and thoroughly read relevant information in the datasheet and manual for the Temperature Controller. 24.Chek the orientation of the onnetors on the Conversion Cable before onneting the Conversion Cable. Do not fore a onnetor if it does not onnet smoothly. Using exessive fore may damage the onnetor. 25.Do not plae heavy objet on the Conversion Cable, bend the able past its natural bending radius, or pull on the able with undue fore. 26.Do not onnet or disonnet the Conversion Cable while ommuniations are in progress. Produt faults or malfuntion may our. 27.ake sure that the Conversion Cable's metal omponents are not touhing the external power terminals. 28.Do not touh the onnetors on the Conversion Cable with wet hands. Eletrial shok may result. 29.Before using infrared ommuniations, orretly attah the enlosed ounting Adapter to the able for the Support Software. When onneting the infrared port on the able to the Support Software into the Adapter, insert the onnetor to the speified line. Communiations may not be possible if the onnetor is not onneted properly. Preautions for Corret Use Servie Life. Use the produt within the following temperature and humidity ranges: Temperature: to 55 C (with no iing or ondensation) Humidity: 25% to 85% If the produt is installed inside a ontrol board, the ambient temperature must be kept to under 55 C, inluding the temperature around the produt. 2. The servie life of eletroni devies like Temperature Controllers is determined not only by the number of times the relay is swithed but also by the servie life of internal eletroni omponents. Component servie life is affeted by the ambient temperature: the higher the temperature, the shorter the servie life and, the lower the temperature, the longer the servie life. Therefore, the servie life an be extended by lowering the temperature of the Temperature Controller. 3. When two or more Temperature Controllers are mounted horizontally lose to eah other or vertially next to one another, the internal temperature will inrease due to heat radiated by the Temperature Controllers and the servie life will derease. In suh a ase, use fored ooling by fans or other means of air ventilation to ool down the Temperature Controllers. When providing fored ooling, however, be areful not to ool down the terminals setions alone to avoid measurement errors. easurement Auray. When extending or onneting the thermoouple lead wire, be sure to use ompensating wires that math the thermoouple types. 2. When extending or onneting the lead wire of the platinum resistane thermometer, be sure to use wires that have low resistane and keep the resistane of the three lead wires the same. 3. ount the produt so that it is horizontally level. 4. If the measurement auray is low, hek to see if input shift has been set orretly. Waterproofing The degree of protetion is as shown below. Setions without any speifiation on their degree of protetion or those with IP@ are not waterproof. Front panel: IP66 Rear ase: IP2, Terminal setion: IP (E5CN-U: Front panel: IP5, rear ase: IP2, terminals: IP) Operating Preautions. It takes approximately two seonds for the outputs to turn from after the power supply is turned. Due onsideration must be given to this time when inorporating Temperature Controllers in a sequene iruit. 2. When using self-tuning, turn power for the load (e.g., heater) at the same time as or before supplying power to the Temperature Controller. If power is turned for the Temperature Controller before turning power for the load, self-tuning will not be performed properly and optimum ontrol will not be ahieved. 3. When starting operation after the Temperature Controller has warmed up, turn the power and then turn it again at the same time as turning power for the load. (Instead of turning the Temperature Controller and again, swithing from STOP mode to RUN mode an also be used.) 4. Avoid using the Controller in plaes near a radio, television set, or wireless installing. These devies an ause radio disturbanes whih adversely affet the performane of the Controller. Others. The disk that is inluded with the Conversion Cable is designed for a omputer CD-RO driver. Never attempt to play the disk in a general-purpose audio player. 2. Do not onnet or disonnet the Conversion Cable onnetor repeatedly over a short period of time. The omputer may malfuntion. 3. After onneting the Conversion Cable to the omputer, hek the CO port number before starting ommuniations. The omputer requires time to reognize the able onnetion. This delay does not indiate failure. 4. Do not onnet the Conversion Cable through a USB hub. Doing so may damage the Conversion Cable. 5. Do not use an extension able to extend the Conversion Cable length when onneting to the omputer. Doing so may damage the Conversion Cable. Advaned Digital Temperature Controller E5CN-H 9
