1 Opti-cal Quick Guides Survey Step Action Screen Display 1 The RX1250 with mobile phone operates using GPRS data. Ensure your site is not in a GPRS dead spot by checking on the Vodafone Coverage map: /web/default.aspx. The map type = Handset. Un-tick the 3G services box and select the appropriate search method from the drop down box (e.g. Postcode, Place, etc). Your site should be covered in a dark blue wash. Any light blue areas indicate possible dead spots 2 Switch on Antenna by pressing and holding the on button for 4 seconds. The yellow power light will come on, the yellow tracking (TRK) light will come on when tracking sufficient satellites (it will flash when insufficient number are being tracked <4), and a green Bluetooth light will come on (this will turn blue when the Antenna has automatically paired with the RX Controller) 3 Switch on Nokia mobile phone. Check that there is a phone signal and that the Bluetooth icon is on in the top left-hand corner of the screen. Put in front pocket to keep a clear Bluetooth signal between phone and RX Controller 4 Switch on RX Controller. 1 Survey will automatically be selected. Press the red ENTER button.

2 5 Job will automatically be selected. Press ENTER. 6 Create a new survey job. Press F2 NEW Fill in the Name field 7 N.B.The Description and Creator fields are optional Press F6 Page 8 Select relevant codelist - if required Press F6 Page - 2 -

3 9 Select relevant Coordinate System Press F6 Page 10 Select relevant Averaging mode if required Press F1 Store 11 Press F1 CONT unless you want to create other new Jobs 12 Check settings and then press F1 CONT - 3 -

4 13 N.B. It is important to check the following icons BEFORE connecting to the internet via GPRS phone connection! See the SmartNet guide for further description 1/ The autonomous solution steering wheel icon MUST be displayed because SmartNet needs to know your location to create a cell around you 2/ The number of satellites available 10º above the horizon is displayed to the bottom left of the satellite icon 3/ With GPS & Glonass enabled Antennas (ATX 1230 GG) the G = American GPS satellites actually available to you in your current position; the R = Russian Glonass satellites available With GPS only Antennas (ATX 1230) the number of GPS satellites being tracked by the carrier waves L1 & L2 in your current position is displayed instead 4/ The arrow or lightning bolt should be displayed and will be stationary until you connect to GPRS 5/ at sign should be displayed to show that the system is configured & ready to connect to the Internet to receive your corrections 6/ Bluetooths 1 & 2 should be displayed (on colour screens the numbers will change from white to black). Bluetooth 1 shows that the Antenna has automatically paired with the RX Controller. Bluetooth 2 shows that the Nokia phone has automatically paired with the RX Controller and a G will appear in the top left hand corner of the phone to show that it is ready for GPRS data 7/ The warning triangle merely shows that you have a job active and warns you not to remove the CF card without shutting down the system. Impossible with the RX1250 Controller because you have to take the battery out before you can get to the CF card! - 4 -

5 14 Press SHIFT followed by F3 CONEC to connect to the SmartNet server A radio wave icon will appear between the lightning bolt and at sign 15 The lightning bolt will begin pulsing and within a few seconds the steering wheel icon will change to a cross with a smaller circle around it. This is the Code solution and will give you DGPS accuracy - you will notice the CQ displays change to submetre accuracy. N.B. If the lightning bolt does not pulse then you are not receiving GPRS data from the Vodafone network provider. This is only temporary due to the high volume of GPRS data being used by other phone users in your area or you are in a dead spot. 16 Once the system begins resolving ambiguities then 2 ticks appear above the Code solution icon. 17 In about seconds a cross without a circle will appear and you will hear a beep to indicate that a Phase solution has been achieved. The 2D position is usually sub 20mm and the 1D height is sub 30mm. The 2 ticks will appear every 6 seconds as the system is constantly resolving ambiguities to check and maintain accuracy

6 18 You are now ready to begin survey. Check or amend Point Id. Select Code from list or create new one if relevant Press F1 OCUPY to measure & store point 19 F6 PAGE allows you to tab through to Auto or use touch screen and tap on Auto tab 20 Press SHIFT then F2 CONF 21 Highlight Log By and press ENTER to change Auto Logging method 22 Select relevant method from list - 6 -

7 23 Press F1 CONT when you ve made your preferred changes 24 Change Auto Point Id and Code if relevant. Then press F1 START to begin measuring and then F1 STOP when finished 25 F6 PAGE allows you to tab through to Map or use touch screen and tap on Map tab. Use the F4 & F5 Zoom keys Press SHIFT then F2 CONF to configure the display to your preferences. 26 Press F4 CENTR to centre the map at your required zoom level based on your current position N.B. SHIFT then F3 FIT will zoom out to include your Reference STN which may be 30km away! - 7 -

8 27 Remember to Press SHIFT then F2 DISCO to disconnect from the SmartNet server when you ve finished. N.B. You have to do this from the Survey tab 28 Press SHIFT then F6 QUIT to return to main menu. Press and hold the ESC key for 4 seconds to switch off - 8 -
