OVERVIEW OF THE ONLINE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT The PebblePad online learning environment is split into two distinct areas: ATLAS (Active Teaching Learning and Assessment Space) This is your online classroom and is the area in which you will find all of the resources for your online learning programme. Pebble+ This is your personal learning space which provides a completely private space for you to create and organise resources which can be used to support your learning and career development. Nobody else will be able to see the work that you store here unless you choose to share it with them. The combination of these 2 areas provide a powerful learning environment, allowing you a private online space in which to work, make mistakes and develop; alongside a formal online classroom space to which you can submit your work and receive feedback from dedicated online tutors whose role is to support you through your online learning experience. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 3
OVERVIEW OF HOW TO FIND AND SUBMIT WORK You will find that you need to move between the 2 areas your online learning environment in order to find and submit work. The diagram below gives an overview of this process. The following pages provide a detailed explanation of this process. ONLINE CLASSROOM (ATLAS) PERSONAL LEARNING SPACE (PEBBLE+) 1) Locate your online workspace to see all learning resources and assessment tasks for your online learning course. 2) Find and open an assessment task in your Resource Centre in Pebble+. 3) Complete the assessment task. Save and close. 5) Online tutor marks the work and gives you feedback. You will be sent an letting you know when your work has been marked and there is feedback to view. 4) Submit the assessment task to the online workspace where it can be accessed by your online tutor. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 4
LOGGING ONTO THE IOS ONLINE Open your internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari) we recommend Google Chrome if possible, if not, try Internet Explorer. 1. In the address bar at the top, type: theiosonline.co.uk and press ENTER. 2. Click on MY IOS. 3. Type in your address and password into the boxes: 4. Click on LOG IN. 5. Scroll down until you see the PERSONAL LEARNING SPACE area with the PERSONAL LEARNING SPACE button. 6. Click on the PERSONAL LEARNING SPACE button. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 5
SEEING YOUR COURSES You will see the course(s) that you are enrolled on by going to ATLAS. 1. To get to ATLAS from PebblePad you will need to use the globe icon at the top of the PebblePad window: ATLAS 2. Click on the ATLAS icon at the top of the PebblePad window. 3. You will see the courses you are enrolled on in the Workspaces I am a member of area: 4. Click on the name of the course to see the content for that course. 5. You will see information about your course first: the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 6
6. To see the resources on the course click on the Resources tab. You may be able to access some resources from this page but some resources are only available from your personal learning space PebblePad. You can tell if a resource can be used in ATLAS because when you click on it it will take you straight to the resource. If you can t access it from ATLAS it will give you the message: To view this resource please refer to your resource centre in Pebble+. Make a note of the name of this resource and now we will go through the process of finding resources in your PebblePad personal learning space. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 7
USING YOUR PEBBLEPAD PERSONAL LEARNING SPACE You are now presented with your own area for your personal learning. Here you can create blogs, forum posts, plans and experiences that are private to you. You will be able to see all of the work you will be expected to complete here in your personal learning space but until you submit your work, your tutor will not be able to see it. If you are enrolled on a course you will have resources available to you in your Resource Centre. Let s have a look at this now. YOUR RESOURCE CENTRE 7. There are several ways to access the Resource Centre. We will use the icons at the top of the PebblePad window: Resource 8. Click on the Resource Centre icon at the top of the PebblePad window. 9. If you have been enrolled on a course you will be presented with a list of resources you will be expected to complete in the For Me tab: EDITING A RESOURCE 10. Double click on a resource name to edit it, alternatively, click on the Use button at the bottom of the window. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 8
11. As you work through your activities in this resource you may see a rosette icon as part of your activity and be asked to upload work. This means you will be expected to produce a file that can be saved with the workbook so your tutor can mark it. a. After you have created the file click on the rosette icon: b. Click on Browse for evidence. c. Find the file in your asset store or if you haven t uploaded the file yet click on Upload. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 9
If you need to upload your file you ll have to add a name for the file, a description (this is optional) and browse to the file in your user area by clicking on Browse. You ll need to click on Save & Upload to put the file in your asset store. d. Select the file in your asset store and click on Confirm. e. Fill in the rest of the fields as necessary and click on Save. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 10
You will see that a number is now shown next to the rosette indicating that you have uploaded 1 piece of work for that activity. 12. Complete the activities in the resource and click on the save button to save it back to your personal learning space. At this point your tutor still can t see the work you ve done. 13. You work has now been saved in your Asset Store. Let s have a look and see exactly where it s gone. Close down the resource you ve modified by clicking on cross in the top right hand corner next to the save button: the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 11
14. You should still have your Resource Centre open but if not don t worry you can open your Asset Store by either: or Clicking on the Assets tab from the window that s already open. Clicking on the Asset Store icon from the top of the PebblePad window. 15. You will see there is a file with the same name as the one you have just edited in the window. What has happened is: when you edit a resource and save it, you save the resource as your own personal asset therefore it now sits in the Asset Store in your By Me tab. If you went back to your Resource Centre and looked at the original resource you started to edit you will see it is blank, this is because this is the resource that has been shared with you and your own completed version is not a resource but an asset. Any work you are either in the process of completing or have completed will be in the Asset Store under your By Me tab. 16. Open the asset by clicking once on the name of the asset and then on the Edit button. Notice you have a lot more options available to you now that you own that asset. For now we just want to edit the asset that we created. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 12
17. Now you can see that the asset you created is a copy of the resource but has your work in it. Remember, this is still your own personal work and no-one else can see it yet. You can keep going back to it and opening it up and editing it until you are happy with it. Once you are happy for your tutor to see the work you can submit it. SUBMITTING YOUR WORK 1. In the top left hand corner of the asset you have created you will find a button, depending on the type of resource you have been working, this button design will vary but the menu options will be similar. Click on the button to see the menu options: 2. You will Submit is one of the options. Click on this now. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 13
3. You will see a list of courses you are on. If you have more than one course make sure you select the correct course where you want the work to be submitted. After selecting the course from the left you will then see information about the submissions you can enter and a green tick will show you that you can submit your work to the course. 4. Click on Submit. 5. You will see a confirmation box that will inform you as to what may be done with your submission. Click on I Agree to continue the submission. 6. You will see a message that your work has been submitted. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 14
7. Click on Continue. 8. You will receive an from PebblePad to confirm your submission: RECEIVING FEEDBACK When your tutor gives you feedback or a grade on your submission you will be notified by . To view your feedback / comments / grades DON T click on the link in the . This will take you to a log in page for PebblePad which will be unfamiliar to you. To view your tutors comments log in to the IoS as normal. 1. Log in to the IoS Online. 2. Go to your Personal Learning Space. 3. Click on the ATLAS globe icon. 4. You will see that your submissions will be listed under your My submissions pane. 5. You will see straight away what grade (if any) you ve received and there will be an icon next to it which looks like a clipboard with a pen to show that your tutor has given your feedback. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 15
6. Click on the green arrow next to the feedback icon to see the course where the submission sits. 7. Click on the name of the resource to open it. 8. You may have been given comments, feedback and grades. Click on the speech bubbles to open the comments pane. Click on the tick to open the feedback and grades pane. 9. You can reply if you want by clicking on the Reply button. AMENDING A SUBMISSION To make the necessary changes that your tutor has suggested (if any) you will need to go back to PebblePad and amend the asset you created. You do not need to resubmit. Simply saving your changes will update the submission and alert the tutor to the changes. 1. If you have your submission still open you can close the tab by clicking on the cross in the corner of the tab (if using Google Chrome): 2. Close down any ATLAS tabs so that you are left with your PebblePad window (or if you have already closed you can simply log back into the IoS Online and click on your Personal Learning Space button. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 16
3. Click on the Asset Store icon. 4. You will see your Assets By Me which will show you the work you have just submitted: 5. You can see that you now have some dots alongside your file. If you hover your mouse pointer over the dots it will tell you what they mean. The first green dot shows you that your work has been submitted and the second green dot shows you that you have received feedback / comments. 6. Click once on the resource to select it. 7. Click on the Edit button. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 17
8. You can also view your comments / feedback / grade from here. You can see that you have something added to your submission by looking at the numbers under each of the icons on the right of the page: 9. From the example above you can see that this resource has received 1 comment and 2 lots of feedback (in this case, 1 is for the comment and 1 is for the grade). To view any of the comments / feedback / grades click on each of the tabs. 10. Make your amendments and click on the Save button in the top right hand corner of the window. the ASA E-Learning All rights reserved. P a g e 18
