Talk-in freq.: DART Repeater, (-) MHz, 100 Hz pl tone Tickets: $5.00 (US $ only) at the door or in advance Tables: $14.00 for an 8' table, must be ordered in advance; some 6' tables will be available at the door. Tables may be reserved via to Sean Fleming, K8KHZ at sean@k8khz.com. Include your name/company, address, city, state, zip code, phone number, and the number of tables you wish to reserve. While in a thanking mood give Ralph K8CAR a good round of applause for the fine job he did on the Christmas party. We have been experiencing some unseasonably warm weather, hopefully it holds through the 15th (sunny and 70 degrees would be nice). Good weather will help our annual swap. So far things are going along well, Sean K8KHZ has been working hard and everything is in place for the best swap in Michigan. A quick note about the swap, EVERYONE that enters must pay $5 at the door and only those working on the setup will be allowed in before the 8:00AM the official opening time. Every club member is expected to help out at the swap, this is our only fund raiser and it is your club. Help is needed for the table set-up on Saturday (no charge to get in for the table set-up) starting at 12 Noon, some will meet for breakfast, before the set up and do a little eyeball rag chewing, place and time to be announced at the meeting and on the Sunday night net. Club members will be needed to man the doors and sell tickets, three doors will be open to let people in and two club members will be needed at each door from 6:AM, vendor arrival, until closing at 12:00 noon. Afterwards a crew will be needed to clean up. If everyone puts in an hour of work we will have enough people to complete all of the tasks. See Sean ( ) and sign up for one of the jobs that needs to be done Willie KC8FNQ ( ) will be in charge of the doors, if he doesn t get enough volunteers expect a call. Wolverine Net The 75 Meter Wolverine Net meets on 3935 KC (lsb phone) daily at 7:00 PM local time with pre-net starting at about 6:30 PM. The nets start a half hour earlier in winter. 3 January 2006 Zero Beat Page 3 Oakland County ARPSC The Oakland County ARPSC maintains a 2 meter net each Thursday night at 8:00PM on ,100 Hz PL for anyone to check in and find out the County events and news from the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response as to training and needs. Tune in and join us on Thursdays. The County now has an increasingly functional network of 2 meter radio systems installed and manned by ARPSC members at each of the hospitals in Oakland County. A test session for these hospital radios is run each 4th Thursday of the each month at 8:00 PM on , 100 Hz PL, as part of the regular weekly ARPSC Net. We have 4 hospitals still not covered by staffing and can use manpower to cover those locations. If interested in assisting in manning a hospital radio for one night a month for about 1 hour, please contact Ralph Greenberg, K8CAR at K8CAR@yahoo.com for further information. Its snowing outside and so we all think of running outside with a ruler to measure the depth of the snow hourly and then report the depth or rate of fall to the National Weather Service, don't we?...thought not. No harm in asking you to occasionally make a note of significant snowfall in larger amounts over 2" and then contact the NWS to report your snowfall in your location as follows: When snow is in excess of 2" then measure depth and report to NWS : go to then look on left side of panel and see "Submit report" link. Go to "Submit report " and make a short report to NWS. That's all there is to it. They will collate all reports and make TV/ radio announcements to outlets as to snowfall in the region. You wake up and look at the alarm clock wondering, Hmm, why isn t it going off? (another day another dollar as the saying goes) But wait it s now 8:15 and the alarm still doesn t go off. Now you think, uh oh, I m going to be late. Then it hits you, It s Saturday morning. Some people would turn over for that extra shut eye. But not this group. Every Saturday morning at 9:30 AM a group of HPARC members and whoever they bring along meet at Jimi s Restaurant in Royal Oak for breakfast and comradery. How about you pick a Saturday morning and join us for some coffee, breakfast and some lively chatter about our favorite topic of the day. Jimi s Restaurant Downtown Royal Oak on corner of S Washington Ave and 7th Ave. (just north of Lincoln Ave. on the west side of the Dayton Hamvention Spring is a great time of year. We just might have seen the last of the snow and many of us are just itching for a road trip. Dayton Hamvention is the weekend of May 19th 21st and we have some rooms reserved for the weekend. If you are going and need a room, please let someone on the Board know. Reporters Wanted HPARC Newsletter is looking for someone interested in things Ham Radio. A DX bulletin replaces or is added to the regular bulletins between 0100 UTC (8 PM EST) Thursdays and 0100 UTC (8 PM EST) Fridays. In a communications emergency, monitor W1AW for special bulletins as follows: Voice on the hour, Teleprinter at 15 minutes past the hour, and CW on the half hour. FCC licensed amateurs may operate the station from 1500 UTC to 1700 UTC (10 AM to 12 PM EST), and then from 1800 UTC to 2045 UTC (1 PM to 3:45 PM EST) Monday through Friday. 5 January 2006 Zero Beat Page 5 Upgrade Today License Exam Sessions HPARC sponsors amateur radio license examination sessions, or "VE Sessions," on a bi-monthly basis. Exam sessions are held at 7:00 PM in a class room at Webster Elementary School (see the " Club Meetings" section for directions). Pre-registration for exams may be done by by contacting the test coordinator. Pre-registration is not mandatory but it saves time and helps us with planning. The licensing fee is $14.00 per session (NOTE--NEW PRICE), no matter how many tests you successfully take (retaking failed tests requires additional fees). We prefer cash, and correct change if you have it. Be sure to bring a picture ID and any current CSCE's (if you don't know what a CSCE is, then you don't have one). According to the new FCC Universal Licensing System (ULS), examinees will be required to bring their Social Security cards and provide their SSNs. Examinees who wish to retain the privacy of their SSNs must register with the FCC in advance to obtain registration numbers to be used instead. Morse Code and Radio Theory Classes HPARC sponsors classes to assist you in getting your entry-level novice or technician license. Classes are offered in the spring and in the fall at various locations in the area. As soon as information is available, you will be able to check here for information about upcoming classes. Other local testing sessions USECA tests on the 1st Saturday of each month at the Salvation Army, 55 Church St., Mt. Clemens. A charity collection was taken and a good sum of money was collected for Grace Centers of Hope, Pontiac, Michigan. [ed.- Details discussed at the January 11th meeting ] Ralph K8CAR was in charge of the food and prizes and as usual did a great job. DART and HPARC are One Starting this month for those who may not be aware, the Detroit Area Repeater Team no longer exists. The repeaters and all the equipment are now under the control of the Hazel Park Amateur Radio Club. The Club Board has appointed Murray (KE8UM) to chair a committee and members of his choosing to operate, maintain repeaters and equipment. The committee chairmen reports to the Hazel Park Amateur Club board. DUES CHANGE If you were a member of the DART in good standing as of this month and not a member of the HPARC, you are now a member of the HPARC in good standing until your DART anniversary date. If you were a member of both, HPARC and DART, your membership is good until the latter anniversary date. As of this month the Hazel Park Amateur Radio Club membership dues are $ The additional dues will be used to offset purchases of repeater related equipment.
