4 Correspondence Column Q: Is it possible to get a bit more of an explanation on how these 2 new features work, loudness &quality optimizer (LQO) and always Treble Boost? A:LQO allows user to enhance the listening experience by automatic frequency response adjustment in noisy/quiet environment. Automatically optimize the audio high frequency response and volume level in noisy environment. This enhances user experience as user does not need to change the volume level frequently when in noisy and non-noisy environment. For example, if set the LQO Max Boost Volume to 15dB,when you are in a quiet room, and the volume adjusts to 40%(Assuming the speaker gain is -18dB) This volume is loud enough to be heard clearly and comfortably. But if you are in a noisy environment, the voice will be unclear if there's no change. But now, the radio volume will enhance 15dB MAX automatically while detect noise in field, equivalent to 90%(-3dB) of adjusting volume via knob, and when the noise reaches a certain level, the radio will also enhance high frequency response to improve voice penetrability and understandability. When you are back to the quiet field, the volume will fall to initial volume. When the environment turns to be quiet to a certain extent, the high frequency part will back to initialization. In this way the voice turns soft and it will prevent hearing damage. Treble Boost: When compare the two state "check" and "uncheck", you can hear that the alt part in receiver enhance obviously, the penetrability and clarity is improved. For global customer, some people think that sounds good when check this feature, so they check it. Then, the LQO cannot adjust tone on high frequency part. Note: a. The range of LQO MAX Boost Volume is 1 to 30dB; it can set via CPS, but will not exceed the Max volume on the radio; b. The radio detects the noise when it is standby and it will adjust the volume automatically, when it is receiving a call, it will use the volume after standby adjustment. It will not adjust the volume during receiving to avoid the interference from the caller; c. LQO and Treble Boost are all valid in receive circuit. Q: SLOT 1/2 Indication (IO) any examples of what will be the application or used? A: In pseudo trunking mode, we know which time slot the voice or data came from; this feature is used for 2nd development, such as voice record or other data service. Q: Does TC700 have the function of starting scan automatically when switching channels? A: TC700 doesn't have this function. But TC780 and DMR can do it. Q: There are three terminals. Each of them are with two signal channels in different frequency. One of the terminals starts scan mode, the other two terminals which are using different signal channels talk to and text to the terminal which is in scan mode, what will happen? A: After demonstration, the message will be showed as failed when the radio is in a call. But the message will arrive at the receiver when the call ends. Q: Can TC320 only use general programming cable to write program? A: Hytera recommends using programming cable which is for TC320 ONLY. 3

5 PD78X Can t Read and Write Detection By Angelia Yong Repair Case Section 1. Fault Phenomenon Connect PD78X and PC with programming cable, PC can t read and write frequency by programming software. 2. Cause Analyze According to the fault phenomenon, the fault may be caused by software or hardware problem. 1) Software problem: a. Programming software version is not coherent with host version. b. USB driver is not stable. The instability of DMR USB driver will cause instable telecommunication. Normally, the problem will be solved by plugging USB again or reinstalling USB driver. 2) Hardware problem Relevant parts: host programming connector (the connector in the side of front case), FPC of main board (the signal cable of front case kit and main board, short form FPC ), OMAP, etc. 3. Cases for reference Case 1. Model Frequency Host Version PD A Fault Phenomenon After connected programming cable with PD780, booted the radio, read the frequency, USB1 of CPS port was normal. Click yes, below interface appeared. Fault Analysis The fault was caused by hardware of the host. Detection procedure 1) Exchange another normal radio to read frequency, normal, exclude USB programming cable, software, PC problem. 4

6 2) Check whether the stylus contacts of spare parts of front case is rusty or scratched or not, found that it is ok. 3) Disassemble the radio, check whether the FPC inside the front case is completed, folded, broken or not, found that it is ok. 4) Check the FPC that connects front case kit and RF board, FPC is found as loosing. Plug FPC, make sure it is firm, test again, it can read frequency normally. Conclusion The sponge attached to silicon pad which is used to fix FPC is deformation and aging. FPC will become loosen when the portable radio falls, so that poor contacts occur. 5

7 PD78X No Voice Repair Case By Viki Zhang Repair Case Section 1. The description of this problem Connect battery of PD78X and turn on the radio, when press PTT, the red indicator is on, the indicators of other radios in the same group are green, but cannot hear any voice. 2. The analysis 1) This problem may be caused by CTCSS/CDSS, signaling or squelch level, we don t consider these software settings here. 2) If this problem is caused by the hardware, we need to check MIC/ EMI filter/voltage bias circuit/the bus and connect circuit/audio codec circuit and the CPU. 3. A Typical Case Model Frequency Firmware Version PD MHz V Fault Phenomenon Connect battery of PD78X and turn on the radio, when press PTT, the red indicator is on, the other radios in the same group s indicator is green, but cannot hear any voice. The Repairing process(with HP 8921A analyzer) a) Connect the PD780 to analyzer with the RF cable and audio cable(analyzer Audio Input port), switch to Tx Test mode on HP8921A, set AFGen1 1KHz, AF GEN1 Lvl 50mV. Connect battery and turn on PD780, press PTT. We found the Tx frequency and Power on the analyzer is normal, but the FM deviation and AF Freq is not OK. (Normally, FM deviation is around 4.5KHz, AF Freq is 1KHz). b) Use probe to connect Audio Input port of HP8921A, and put probe on C1012, now the FM Deviation and AF Frequency specifications become normal. c) Press PTT to transmit, and put probe on C1003, we found FM Deviation and AF Frequency specifications is faulty again. d) Press PTT to transmit, use multimeter to test the MIC pin 1& pin 2 s voltage, it is 0.2 and 0.5V. The voltage difference is =1.5V, we think maybe U1001 is broken. e) Replace U1001, repeater step c) now FM Deviation and AF Frequency specifications are OK, problem solved. 6

9 RD98X Can t Transfer Repair Case By Angelia Yong Repair Case Section 1. Fault Phenomenon 1) RD98X can receive uplink signal, but can t transfer; no downlink signal has been sent out; 2) Connect RD98X with power supply, test the specification of TX and RX separately, all are normal, but can t transfer. 2. Cause Analyze 1) From above fault phenomenon, the radio has a problem of can t transfer; 2) Software problem: data disorder; the problem can be solved by downloading software again; 3) Hardware problem: baseband board problem, board to board FPC damage or loosen. 3. Typical Maintenance Case Case 1 Model Frequency Range Firmware Version RD MHzz R Fault Phenomenon RD980 can receive uplink signal, but can t transfer. Cause Analyze 1) The radio can receive uplink signal. It means the receiver board is working. We could test whether the RX and TX are normal or not before dissembling the radio; 2) If no obvious abnormity has been found, we could try to download software again. Detection steps 1) Test RX, TX separately, both can work normally. It means receive board and excitation board are working; 2) Dissemble the radio, check flat cable that connects baseband board and receiver board/excitation board, it is loosen. Plug and fix the flat cable, test the radio again, normal. The problem is solved. 8

11 RD98X Can't Realize IP Multi-Site Connection Repair Case By Eric Liu 1. Fault phenomenon description RD98X IP multi-site connection can t realize communication, there isn t any response when we use RDAC software to test and it can t connect with each other. 2. Fault phenomenon reason analysis 1) We judge the radio has a fault of not realizing IP multi-site connection according to the fault phenomenon as above. 2) The main reasons for software fault are as followed: wrong Ethernet IP address and authentication code, IP internet UDP port, IP internet service,remote repeater diagnosis and control doesn t open. 3) The main circuit causing hardware fault is Ethernet chip circuit. 3. Specific maintenance case Case 1 Radio Type Frequency Band Firmware Version RD98X MHZ R Fault Phenomenon RD98X IP multi-site connection can t realize communication; there is no response when we use RDAC software to do the test. Fault Analysis It is belonged to the fault of not able to realize the IP-multi site connection according to fault description. Test Step 1) Firstly, we need to exclude the software fault, the CPS setting of RD98X is as figure 1; 2) Use RDAC software to do the diagnostic analysis. 3) It will appear figure 3 if the 2 point setting as above. If the CPS setting and RDAC software are normal, but it doesn t show the figure 3 which means radio is not normal, it may have fault. 4) We can exclude the software fault according to the fault description as above, and then we focus our attention to check Ethernet chip circuit. 5) Use multimeter to check and test resistance value of TX and RX circuit as figure 4 shows, it is 0 ohm, then we need to replace Ethernet chip.it returns to normal condition after we use RDAC software to test, the fault is eliminated. 10

14 MD78X Can t Read and Write Frequency Fault Repair Case By Warren Liu 1. Faulty phenomenon description 1) The programming software can display USB port rightly after MD78X powers on and starts to read frequency, but it can t read and write frequency, prompting connection error or error radio type. 2) The programming software can t display USB port after MD78X powers on and starts to read frequency, and it can t read and write frequency either. 2. Fault reason analysis 1) The radio can display USB port but can t read and write frequency, usually speaking; it is caused by unmatched programming software according to the fault phenomenon as above. a) The low version DMR CPS can t be compatible with high version host, but high version CPS can be compatible with low version host. b) The CPS of MD78X(MD780,MD782,MD785,MD786,MD788) is different with each other,you need to choose the corresponding CPS according to the radio type. 2) We judge initially radio can t display the USB port according to the fault phenomenon 2. a) The main reason of software fault is that DMR_SW_usb_driver_chs_V isn t installed or it needs to be reinstalled because of some abnormal situation. b) The possible faulty hardware is OMAP,ESD protective tube of front panel,esd protective tube of base band. 3. Specific maintenance case Case 1 Radio Type Frequency Band Firmware Version MD MHz R Faulty Phenomenon CPS can t display USB port after MD78X powers on and connects to the PC by CPS. Fault Analysis It is not belonged to programming fault according to the fault description, so we can exclude the software firstly, and then check hardware circuit. Test Step 1) Firstly, we need to exclude the software fault, then check USB driver and CPS version, both of them are normal. 2) Check hardware circuit. Test USB_D+,USB_D- s resistance value to ground separately according to photo 1,both of them are K,which means OMAP is ok. 13

15 3) Test protective diode U8 of Aviation head interface of front panel and protective diode D450 of tail pin interface of main board according to photo 2 and 3.The 4 th pin voltage of U8 is 1.7V, it is not normal; the 4 th pin voltage of D450 is 4.9V,it is normal, so we doubt U8 is leakage and broken. 4) Radio programming returns to normal condition after replacing ESD protective U8,the fault is eliminated. Summarization This fault is caused by the leakage of the 4th pin of ESD protective diode U8.This ESD protective diode is used for protecting OMAP interface circuit to avoid strong external signal interference damage. 17 TC610 Can t Power On Fault Repair Case By Eric Liu Repair Case Section 1. Fault Phenomenon Description There is no response after powering on, including audio from speaker, indicator flashing. 2. Fault Reason Analysis Fault phenomenon is that radio can t power on according to the fault description as above. The main circuit causing the fault of not powering on is power supply circuit and CPU circuit. The main components are volume switch, MHZ crystal oscillator, reset IC, memory. 3. Specific Maintenance Case Case 1 Type Frequency Band Firmware Version TC MHZ V Fault Phenomenon There is no sound after powering on, no response and current after pressing PTT. Fault Analysis There is even no current after powering on according to the fault phenomenon, so we can check power supply circuit and then check CPU circuit. Test Step(see Figure 1,2) 1) Power on the radio and test SW3 of the volume switch to see whether it outputs 7.4V voltage, it has and this is normal. 2) Test U606 s input voltage is 7.4V, output voltage is 5V, found it is normal. 3) Test the 17 th pin of CPU power supply, it is 5V, found it is normal. 4) Test both sides of time reference crystal oscillator X601 of CPU, it is separately 2.3V and 2.5V, found it is normal. 5) Test both sides of X601 s oscillator frequency, it is MHZ, margin is -65dbm,it is on the low side.so we doubt X601 is faulty. 6) Radio can power on normally after replacing X601, the standby current is 60mA, and the fault is eliminated. 16

19 TC700 Low Battery Warning Repair Case By Dean Li Repair Case Section 1. Faulty Phenomenon Description Connect TC700 to power, no operations, it sounds du du from speaker and red light continuously flashes. 2. Fault Reason Analysis The radio appears low battery warning fault; it is caused by hardware according to the fault phenomenon as above. The main reasons for hardware fault are: CPU and peripheral circuit of CPU. 3. Specific Maintenance Case Case 1 Radio Type Frequency Band Firmware Version TC MHz V2.17 Faulty phenomenon description Connect TC700 to power, no operations, it sounds du du from speaker and red light continuously flashes. Fault reason analysis The radio appears low-battery warning fault; it is caused by hardware according to the fault phenomenon as above. The main reasons for hardware fault are: CPU and peripheral circuit of CPU. Test step(figure 1) 1) Check battery voltage, 7.4V is normal; 2) Check battery sampling voltage, 4.3 V is normal( voltage of this point should be 4V~4.5V); 3) Check the BATT pin of CPU and external resistor array(cp514)of BATTSEL pin, find resistance increased and damaged, then replace resistor array, the radio return to normal. 3) Summary This problem is caused by EMI Filter U

20 CPU BATT test pin,cp514 Battery test sampling voltage: 4.0~4.5V Battery voltage:7.5v Summary This low voltage warning fault is caused by low voltage alarm test voltage (4V~4.5V) not inputting to the inside of CPU. 19
