1 Teesdale Views Photographic Competition Information One of our projects is focussed on the views around Teesdale, whether they are culturally iconic or purely beautiful due to the landscape. There are many significant views throughout Teesdale, including those that were painted by Turner and Cotman or photographed by Yeoman. This competition aims to give the local people of the Teesdale area a chance to share with us their favourite views. Therefore we are asking for entries from anyone living in and around the Heart of Teesdale area. These entries have to be of a view and the subject matter must be predominantly within the HoT Project area (see map). The judging will take place in October, and our three judges will select their top 25 photos. These 25 will then be exhibited at The Witham gallery for two weeks in October and they will also be printed as sets of greetings cards. CLOSING DATE: 30 th SEPTEMBER 2014 Prizes Winner: A one-to-one all day workshop with landscape photographer Phillip Dove and 200 worth of photographic equipment vouchers. Two commended entries: A joint, all day workshop with Phillip Dove. Top 25: All of those whose work is exhibited will be given their printed and framed photography after the exhibition closes. 2 Rules General Rules 1 The competition is open to anyone except the Heart of Teesdale staff team and members of the Advisory Group. 2 The subject matter of the photograph must be predominantly within the Heart of Teesdale area (see map) 3 The photograph must be taken from somewhere with public access. 4 Entries which show evidence of disturbance to any habitats or wildlife will be disqualified. Please take care to avoid harming the environment in the process of your photography. Eligible photographs 1 Photographs must have been taken in the Heart of Teesdale geographical area. 2 Photographs must be of a view. We understand that this can be interpreted in many ways. A photograph will be eligible as long as you are able to explain why you feel this is an important view and the judges feel that your explanation is sufficient. Resizing your photograph(s) for submission 1 Your photograph(s) must be resized before submission. Be careful not to save your original photograph by accident into your resized submission file as you may not be able to retrieve it. Remember to keep backup copies of your original files safe and only work on a copy of the original. 2 Photographs must be resized to be no more than 1MB in file size (at a resolution of 72 dpi). They must be saved as JPEG file (JPG). 3 The filename must contain your full name and also the title of your photograph, for example firstname_surname_viewofcotherstone.jpg. Digital enhancements 1 Do not digitally enhance or alter photographs beyond the basics needed to achieve realistic colour balance, contrast and sharpness. Removal of sensor dust and other artefacts is acceptable but if you have digitally added anything or removed anything else do not submit the photograph. 2 Adjustments to colour saturation and contrast are allowed. 3 Cropping is allowed but take care not to use it excessively as it will degrade overall image quality. Remember any crop still needs to have sufficient resolution (minimum 8 megapixels) to be printed out if your photograph is shortlisted. Durham DL12 8JB 3 You can submit a maximum of 3 photographs. If more than 3 photographs are submitted from any one person only the first 3 received will be eligible for short-listing. The remainder will be deleted. 4 The photograph submission form must be completed for each photograph. This can be downloaded from the website or picked up from the Heart of Teesdale Offices at the above address. If any of your photographs are shortlisted and we cannot get in touch with you by or telephone your photograph will not be considered for further judging. 5 When selecting a photograph to submit please bear in mind that successful photographs will be displayed in our exhibition. We recommend using a camera of at least 8 megapixels to allow us to exhibit the photograph and your original photograph should not be cropped much beyond this. Terms & Conditions Rules Any photographs which are submitted and considered by the organisers not to be within the rules will not be judged. Judging Judges appointed by the organisers will choose the winners. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The judges will assess entries and agree on the final shortlist of 25 to be exhibited. All those on the shortlist will be contacted to supply a high-resolution file or print if they haven t already done so. Failure to produce a high-resolution file within the designated time period could eliminate an entrant from the shortlist. Awards and Publicity The Overall Winners prize is given to the photographer whose photograph is judged to be the most outstanding and memorable of all the entries. The shortlist of 25 may be displayed on the website of the organiser and could also be featured in the regional press and media. Those on the shortlist agree to take part in post-competition publicity, for example attendance at an awards event. The organisers will not share details of any entrants with any third party without their permission, although prize winners details will be released to the media.

4 Copyright and permissions By submitting images to the competition, each entrant guarantees that: they are the owner of each image and that it is their original work; they own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of each image; they have the permission of any person pictured in the image (or, where the image shows any persons under 18, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights required by the organisers; they have not licensed or disposed of any rights in the image that would conflict with uses to be made by the organisers. By entering the competition, each entrant grants the organisers a non-exclusive licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media, the images for any purpose directly connected with the competition. This may include, but is not limited to: exhibition displays; use on websites; for use in press releases giving information about the competition. Entrants agree that the organisers can provide images to the media for reproduction in connection with the competition and exhibition only. The organisers will make a reasonable effort to ensure that name credits are given to any photograph published in any medium but we cannot guarantee this. Free use of any photograph submitted to the competition will not be permitted by the organisers outside of the scope of the competition and exhibition. However the organisers may contact you after the competition about the future use of images submitted to the competition. Entrants retain the copyright to images submitted. The organisers reserve the right to refuse any entries from the competition for any reason. Disclaimer By entering the competition each entrant will be deemed to be bound by the Terms & Conditions above. The organisers reserve the right to change any of the above Terms & Conditions without prior notice. Any entrant breaching the Terms & Conditions will be disqualified. If a breach has occurred, but is discovered after the award of a prize, then the organisers will request the return of that prize. The organisers bear no responsibility for loss, damage or injury incurred as a result of taking part in the competition and awards.
