1 Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Street Banner Contest Street Banner Contest The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo s (RMWB) Street Banner Contest is a civic beautification initiative that strives to engage community members, showcase the beauty of the region, as well as highlight local artists. The 2014 RMWB Street Banner Contest features a call for entries from the following visual art categories: Photography Digital Art Collage Painting and Illustration Printmaking Themes: There are four themes for this year s contest. 2 Contest Rules & Guidelines Banner Selection: A contestant may submit up to 5 entries. Up to four designs will be selected for display on street banners from March 2014 to November Winning designs will be selected by a panel of volunteer judges from the community. A $500 honourarium will be awarded for each of the selected designs. The artist retains sole copyright to his/her artwork. The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will have unlimited reproduction rights to all contest submissions. Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo employees are ineligible for this contest. Contest Rules and Submission Guidelines: Please be sure to review the submission guidelines for each type of visual art category as it relates to your contest entry. When creating your visual artwork, you will be submitting a design for one side of the street banner pole. See figure below for details. Please note: This document provides all the information required to successfully submit your contest entry. Due to the anticipated volume of contest entries, submissions that do not conform to the minimum requirements detailed in this document may be disqualified. 94 Municipal logo will be added. The logo is 14.5 inches long and 4 inches high. From the right hand trim the right hand edge of the logo is 2 inches from the trim. 3 Photography Guidelines and Specifications Submission Guidelines: Submit only portrait / vertically oriented or square cropped photographs in order to retain the integrity of the original photograph. Landscape oriented images are discouraged due to the vertical orientation of the banner designs. Only original, unmanipulated photographs, not previously submitted, will be accepted. Please see technical specifications for details. Photographs must not contain people whose identities are clearly discernible. Digital photography via , CD or DVD is preferred. Memory sticks are acceptable but will not be returned. Each digital file submitted must be identified by your full name, image number and theme. For example: Ron- Smith001-Culture.jpg; Ron-Smith002- Heritage.jpg Please note: Due to the volume of contest submissions and the need to correctly track all entries, files that do not conform to the naming procedure may be disqualified. DO NOT send in your files with only the image number from your computer. You must rename each submission using the naming procedure above or it will be rejected. Identification including name(s), mailing address, address, and phone number must be included in all , CD, DVD and memory stick submissions for consideration. Technical Specifications: Image resolution and minimum requirements: 10MP, high resolution, photographic image(s) capable of up to 2250x7050 pixel enlargement. Submissions that do not meet this minimum image resolution may be disqualified because they cannot be successfully enlarged to meet the banner production requirements. Digital editing: Adjustments to lighting and colour enhancement are permitted. Any photographic manipulation, adjustments and enhancements deemed excessive may be disqualified. These include excessive / unrealistic HDR treatments, oversaturated / unrealistic colour treatments, photo composites, etc. Image submission format: If possible, shoot images in RAW image format. All , DVD and memory stick submissions should be in high resolution JPG only. Do not send RAW, TIFF or PSD files for the contest entry. Contest rules & guidelines 3

4 Digital Art Guidelines and Specifications Submission Guidelines: ALL Digital artwork should be created at a minimum 300ppi. Minimum finished artwork size must maintain a proportional scale of 7.5 x Digital illustrations are recommended to be made in vector format. Words, letters and numbers may be included in the overall design if they are related to the theme of the artwork. Digital art may be submitted via , CD or DVD. Memory sticks are acceptable, but will not be returned. Each digital file submitted must be identified by your full name, image number and theme. For example: John- Smith001-Nature.jpg Identification including name(s), mailing address, address, and phone number must be included in all , CD, DVD and memory stick submissions for consideration. Submissions that do not meet this image resolution may be disqualified because they cannot be successfully enlarged to meet the banner production requirements. 5 Collage, Painted and Print Making Digital Art Guidelines and Specifications Submission Guidelines: All collage, painted and printmaking artworks must meet the following guidelines in order to be considered for the contest. All artwork must be original, made by the artist submitting the contest entry and made by hand. Absolutely no mechanical reproductions of original works are permitted. Minimum finished artwork size must maintain a proportional scale of 7.5 x If the original artwork does not meet these minimum dimensions it will be cropped to fit. Words, letters and numbers may be included in the overall design if they are related to the theme of the artwork. Identification including name(s), mailing address, address, and phone number must be included in a sealed envelope on the back of each entry. If your artwork is selected as a winning design, the artwork will be professionally scanned at a very high resolution in order for it to be resized and made into a street banner. All artwork will be returned to the artist after completion of the judging and the selection of the winners. Contest rules & guidelines 5

6 STREET BANNER CONTEST Waiver & Release Form The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo street banner program is a community beautification initiative that strives to engage community members, showcase the beauty of our region and highlight local artists. Please read the following statements. By signing this waiver/release form, you are agreeing to the terms set out in this document. The images submitted are mine and I certify that they do not infringe on the property or the rights of any other person or entity, and I have all the necessary rights and authority to submit the photo. I agree to the collection, use and disclosure by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo of my personal information for the purposes of administering the Street Banner contest and awarding the prize, if any, including but not limited to releasing the name of the winner to those who request such information. I understand that by submitting this image, I consent and grant the irrevocable perpetual unrestricted, non-exclusive royalty free rights and license to the use of all submitted entries to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. I irrevocably consent to allow the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to use, re-use, publish and re-publish the same in whole or in part, separately or in conjunction with other entries, in any medium now or hereafter known, and for any purpose whatsoever, including (but not by way of limitation) illustration, promotion, etc. The images may or may not be used in conjunction with my name are not subject to my approval before use, re-use, publish or re-publishing. I agree that there will be no financial compensation for my time or expenses for this consent or the use of the images. I hereby release and agree to indemnify and save harmless the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, its agents and employees from any and all claims, demands and causes of action. This agreement shall be binding upon me, my heirs, legal representatives and assigns.
