3 Planning Your Session Here at Nicola Borland Photography we honor your schedules, special events and your sessions with a helpful timeline to help you to understand how we are working our hardest to create your treasured memories: 2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR SESSION: After chatting on the phone or in studio for our preconsultation to discuss any of your specifications and wishes, we send you an online booking proposal where you can view and sign your contract, and pay your session, including any props and locations. 2 DAYS BEFORE YOUR SESSION: We give you a quick check-in to confirm all the details for the session including location and session time. THE DAY OF YOUR SESSION: When you arrive at the scheduled time, we go over the plan for the session. We will do a variety of poses from groups to individuals and anything else specific you may want from you session. Prepare for a wonderful time during your photography session! 1 WEEK AFTER YOUR SESSION: We are in the process of editing, retouching, and making your images perfect. We create a combination of color and black and white images and process them to show the true color of your family life. 2 WEEKS AFTER YOUR SESSION: You arrive at the studio for your in-person View & Order Session. Here you pick out your favorite images for your photography groupings in terms of sizes, arrangements and style (please bring all wall measurements). We can also use this opportunity to take orders for gifts, albums, and any of the other unique keepsakes we offer. Please make sure all decision makers are present for this session. We offer collections and a la carte ordering options. 4-6 WEEKS AFTER YOUR SESSION: Your artwork and albums are ready for pickup! At this time we also provide a client care card packet which will ensure a long life from your precious heirlooms.

GET THE LOOK Decide before the shoot what look you re going for. Where in your home will your portraits be displayed? If in a more formal room, be sure everyone s clothing is coordinated to this look. If the room is less formal and more family keep this in mind as well. Furnishings from desired rooms can also be used if the shoot is in-home, guaranteeing a perfect match to your decor. HAIR ALERT Get haircuts at least a week before the shoot. It might take a few days to grow into (or fond of) a hair cut, especially if the scissors went amiss. This buffer allows for some growth, tweaks and perfections to the hair style prior to your session. CAN T BUY ME LOVE Build up the session to children as it really is a time for fun and togetherness. There s no need for bribes when the event itself is the reward. CHILL PILL Calm your own lens nerves. Relaxed parents have more fun, which helps kids become most comfortable for the best shots. We believe that really getting to know you and your family s personalities, personal fashion style and home decorating style, what the kids are into and what you are looking for from your photography session is important. We do not like the idea of turning up at our shoot location having never discussed your needs, not knowing if the kids are shy or crazy hyper, or you have an image or feel that you really want us to capture. For this reason we include a Pre-Session Consultation for all our portrait sessions, either at the studio, or on the phone, to get to know you. Family Portrait Sessions are $325 & includes: A pre-session phone or in-person consultation to discuss your portrait needs, style, personalities, etc. A photo shoot at the studio, your home, or another location with Nicola for up to 5 people. ($35 for each additional subject/pet) Sessions average minutes. A personal order session at the studio approximately 2 weeks after your session, where we help guide you on choosing your favorite images for your walls, coffee tables and family gifts. Approximately images presented, artistically color corrected to look the outstanding. Digital files are NOT included in the session fee. Files can be purchased individually or in a collection. Web sized files are included for all images purchased as a print or product. Additional prints and products available a la carte, or in collections. See next page for details.

This special window known to photographers as The Golden Hour is the period of time when the light from the sun is at its most perfect. With its long rays diffused across the entire sky, the light creates a flattering glow and shimmer for picture perfect skintones and deliciously warm portraits. During midday, when every ray of the sun seems to find its way to our delicate, overexposed skin, the shadows created are usually too deep in contrast to the glare. Instead of fighting the harsh light, it s better to schedule outdoor shooting during the Golden Hour when the sun still works its magic but in our favor, but of course still taking the kids into consideration. 9 Your Portraits As Fine Art selecting the proper size portrait Our clients love to select one high impact or statement portrait that showcases their family and can be displayed in an area of their home where they can enjoy seeing it daily. We always advise our clients to choose areas in their homes where they live the most, but also where others will see their portrait! Once you have selected your favorite image, the second most important decision you ll make will be the appropriate portrait size for your wall. There are three main considers for that decision. 1. Room Size: Consider where the portrait might hang. Is the ceiling height 8 feet or 15 feet? How large is the wall and the room? Can you see it from 20 feet away? These factors play a large role in determining the best size. Your family room, formal living or dining room, the foyer as you enter your home all are very popular choices for where to hang portrait art. 2. Face size: Seeing everyone s expression is very important. For an average size room, with a viewing distance of 8-10 feet, a face height of at least 4 to 6 is recommended. Any smaller and expressions are lost, and you won t get the viewing pleasure you deserve. 3. Viewing distance will also determine portrait size. Again, we recommend face sizes in the portraits to be at least 6 based on an average viewing distance of eight to ten feet. Your family s photograph is one of the most impressive captures of your family to date showcase it in style! how to determine sizing In this example, we show your statement piece beside a chair for illustrative purposes. You may also consider a large family portrait over a mantle, a buffet, a bed, or a hall console. The same concept for determine size will apply. Measure your sofa to determine its total length. Most three seater sofas are at least 80 inches wide. A horizontal (or square) focal piece of art portrait should be at least 50-75% as wide as the sofa it hangs above. For example, if your sofa is 80 inches wide (6.5 feet), choose a portrait that is at least 40 inches wide. Many people hang art too high. Be sure to center your portrait of the wall space above the sofa, with the bottom edge of the frame approximately 6 to 9 inches above the back. Most clients enjoy the contemporary look of our gallery wrap canvases, and they are a great value because they do not require glass and framing. However if you will be hanging a large print, please allow an additional 3-6 inches around the portrait for a custom frame. If you can t decide on just one statement portrait, consider a grouping of smaller portraits and space them 2-3 inches apart. Just make sure the overall space you cover is at least 70% of the width of the wall area. Our studio can show you more ideas for wall galleries, which work well in smaller areas.

11 Wall Display Collages Examples One of the best ways to display portraits is to marry the collection with the style of your décor. When considering lifestyle photography, groupings of portraits in a series are an effective and contemporary way to tell your story. At Nicola Borland Photography we will gladly walk you through our Wall Gallery options, showcasing all of our most popular arrangements. Because part of the custom service we offer is to assist in creating interesting and unique displays for your home, our artisans will help plan your wall galleries with your favorite images, coupled with frames, or displayed as mounted prints or fine art canvases. Our goal is to provide you with images as dynamic and original as you are!

12 Nicola Borland photography Studio policies The session fee is due in full at the time of booking in order to guarantee your session date and time. You may reschedule this appointment, provided you give us a minimum of 48 hours notice, however we ask that you limit rescheduling to one time only. Reprint orders can be made at any time throughout the year, while your images are on file. As always, there is a minimum print order amount of $ so it is best to place all orders at one time to avoid having to meet the minimum each time. If you must cancel your session due to illness or other personal emergency, please do your best to provide the studio with 24 hours notice so that your session time can be made available to other clients. Failure to provide adequate notice of a cancellation will result in the forfeiture of your session fees, and another session fee payment will be required to hold your new date. Cameras, camcorders, or recording devices of any kind are not permitted at your photographic session. Please leave all camera equipment, or said devices at home. Attendance at photo sessions is limited to those individuals being photographed. In the case of children and newborns, attendance is limited to two parents only. Siblings are welcome if they are to be photographed as well. Please do not bring personal assistants, nannies, caregivers, or friends to your session. Having additional persons present is very distracting, not only to the photographer but also to those being photographed. Your session will begin promptly at the agreed upon time. Please arrange to be dressed, made-up and ready to begin at this time. (Because the session length is predetermined, any additional time required to prepare yourself or children once you ve arrived will reduce the amount of time we can spend in-session, and further limits the amount of images captured.) All orders form your session will take place at a special View & Choose Session created for this purpose, two weeks after your session. This appointment will last one hour, and all persons who wish to place an order {or have input into your family order decisions} are encouraged to attend. Basic retouching included. Beauty retouching is outsourced and billed at an hourly rate for removal of braces, digital slimming, wrinkle reduction, teeth whitening, etc. All gift-sized prints 8x10 and under are priced the same, because it takes the same amount of work to edit and retouch a sheet of wallets as an 8x10. Ordered images will remain on file for one year from the date of your portrait sitting. Unordered images will be purged after 30 days from date of first Due to the custom nature of the products and services provided by Nicola Borland Photography, all sales are final once received. Items cannot be returned or exchanged. You may add on to your order at any time, but a sale is considered final at the time it is made. Custom designs, layouts and albums will be proofed to you within 2 weeks of your order. You are granted one opportunity to make up to three changes within your layout. All requests for changes must be made at the same time, as only one additional proof will be created. We reserve the right to make final decisions on artistic layouts. I take the utmost care with respect to the proper exposure, retouching, and archiving of my digital images. In the unlikely event of data loss, camera equipment malfunction or photographer illness that prevents the undertaking of the session, photographer s liability will be limited to the refund of all session fees, or a new session can be scheduled at no additional cost to the client. All images provided by Nicola Borland Photography whether in digital (online, etc...) form or in print, may not be reproduced by any means. All images created by Nicola Borland Photography are protected under copyright law, and may not be saved to computers, printed, scanned, photographed, ed, posted online or shared digitally without written consent. Nicola Borland Photography reserves the right to use the any images or custom created artwork for display, publication, studio marketing, or other promotional purposes. Digital negatives and originals remain the property of Nicola Borland Photography. Digital files are not included with your session fee, but can be purchased with our one of our collections, or on their own. Nicola Borland Photography creates special client events throughout the year to provide our clients with an opportunity to obtain special offerings, pricing and value.
