2 Reserved Parking Spot Guidelines & Procedures STEP 1: Submit the Reserved Parking Spot Contract and Design for approval by August 10, 2017 You and your parents should carefully read and sign the Reserved Parking Spot Contract. A school appropriate and approved design for your parking spot MUST be included with the signed contract. Bowie will keep this, so make a copy for yourself. All spaces must be personalized or marked in some manner to indicate to other students that your space is reserved. To ensure your design is approved before the designated painting time, submit your contract and your design to the purple box located in the front office by August 14, You will be contacted if there is a problem with your design. Submitting your design late may jeopardize or delay your spot selection and painting. STEP 2: Purchase a Bowie parking permit by 9:00 am on Friday, August 18, 2017 Eligibility: 15 credits + no more than 16 class period absences in the school year, with no more than 6 absences in a single class. Non-school related absences will count towards the total, but school-related absences such as field-trips and testing do NOT count against the student (see the TEAMS Coding document at for more details). Students with excessive tardies or serious discipline infractions will not be eligible. A list of eligible students will be posted outside the library during spring final exams and will also be available in the front office throughout the summer. Appeals: Students who are ineligible for a reserved painted parking spot, but who have documented extenuating circumstances (such as serious illness, family crisis, etc.) can submit an appeal by contacting Mr. Powell (joseph.powell@austinisd.org). The link to purchase your parking permit can be accessed by going to the Students tab and selecting Parking Permit on the website. Print out your temporary permit and bring it with you when you come to draw your parking spot. STEP 3: Select your reserved parking spot on the morning of Friday, August 18, 2017 (staggered assigned times) Parking spot selection is prioritized based on the attendance record. Those students with the fewest class period absences will be the first to pick their spots. Groups and selections times will be posted outside the library during the week of final exams and available in the office throughout the summer. Some parking spots are restricted. Students should check the schematic of the parking lot posted at the drawing to identify which spots are available. With your temporary permit in hand, report on time to the Southwest Room to select your parking spot: GROUP 9:00 am GROUP 9:20 am GROUP 9:40 am GROUP 10:00 am GROUP 10:20 am GROUP 10:40 am GROUP 11:00 am GROUP 11:20 am GROUP 11:40 am GROUP J@ 12:00 pm Assigned groups will be posted outside library during final exams

3 STEP 4: Paint your parking spot, Aug. 18 from 1:00 pm 7:00 pm & Aug. 19 from 8:00 am 7:00 pm Personalize your parking spot by creating a design that reflects your interests, shows your school spirit, or simply an interesting or creative design (see examples below or search parking spot ideas ). Remember, all reserved parking spots must be personalized in some manner to indicate to others that it is off limits to them. To ensure that the paint dries by the first day of school, all painting must be finished by Saturday, Aug. 7:00 pm. No exceptions! Please block off your parking spot when you finish to ensure no one parks in it while it is drying. What you need: o WATER BASED INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR LATEX PAINT ONLY (no reflective paint, no fluorescent paint, and no spray paint) o a broom to sweep off your spot before painting o chalk to sketch your design before painting o a ruler or tape measure to mark the boundaries of your design (neat 8 unpainted border) o your copy of the approved design o paint brushes, paint rollers, paint trays, painters tape, stencils, trash bags and any other painting supplies you think you may need o friends and family to help you o something to block off your space while it is drying Be mindful of the heat -- please wear a hat, bring lots of water, a portable shade/canopy, etc. Paint can be expensive, so here are some tips to keep the cost down: o Austin ReBlend ( is a City of Austin program that gives away recycled paint (yes, it s free). The ReBlend pickup is located at 2513 Business Center Dr., Austin, TX and is open Mon-Fri 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday 7 am to noon (no appointment necessary). Go early in the summer to make sure there s plenty of paint to choose from! o Ask family, neighbors, and grandparents if they have any paint lying around that they aren t using (you can usually get it tinted at a local home supply store). o Home supply stores usually have paint in the clearance section of custom colors that people have chickened out on using. These paints are deeply discounted. o Talk to your friends about what colors they are using, and then go in together on the paint. o Simplify your design: more colors = more money. STEP 5: Enjoy your parking spot! o Your spot is reserved for the entire school year. o As part of your parking permit fee, Bowie will paint over your space at the end of the year.

I will only use WATER BASED INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR LATEX PAINT (no reflective paint, no fluorescent paint, and no spray paint) I will only paint within the parking space that I selected according the established guidelines (including a neat 8 unpainted border) and I will never paint elsewhere I understand that I must provide my own paint and painting supplies I will only paint school appropriate designs that have been pre-approved. I understand that all painting must be finished by 7 pm on Saturday, August 19, 2017 I will clean up all of my painting materials and trash when I am finished I understand that I may not park in someone else s reserved parking spot I understand that I must maintain a good attendance and tardy record my entire senior year I understand that my parking spot is reserved during school hours only and that I do not have exclusive access to the spot on weekends or evenings I understand that there may be rare occasions when my parking spot may not be guaranteed to be reserved (for example during election voting and special events).
