1 HOW TO USE AQUAGLASS BASIC COLORS Aquaglass paint is very easy system to apply on glass and all colours are ready to use. The formulation of Aquaglass colours is also straightforward and do not require special mixing ratios converter or tinto-paste. 2 For formulations and colour matching, we recommend/suggest the following tools: Dosing: Special lids with attached mixing unit for dosing of the paint. With this, it is very easy to store, mix before dosing and discharge accurately Mixing: You could use spatula for small quantity or stirrer and mixing tools for larger quantities. Weighing Scale: Use weighing scale with 0.01 gram accuracy at least. 2

3 Quality and colour control: Film applicators and Spiral bar coaters Opacity Chart AQUAGLASS APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS In order to achieve the best results, Aquaglass should be stored at a constant room temperature of around C for a minimum of 12 hours prior to use. Aquaglass is susceptible to variations in temperature and slight changes can have a notable effect on the viscosity of the paint. We recommend that Aquaglass is applied to the air side of glass. The adhesion promoter does not act as a catalyst for the paint. It enhances the adhesion of the paint to the glass, crucial in situation where there is high humidity and water contact. Paint Preparation: Open the cans and mix for a short time in order to homogenize the paint. Discharge the paint from the cans and prepare only the quantity you need. For all applications, it is necessary to add 2% by weight of adhesion promoter (0689-ADH) to the paint. Weigh the adhesion promoter separately prior to mixing to the paint. Add the promoter slowly during the mixing and mix well for few minutes. The mixing should be carried out at low speed mixer to avoid excessive air being introduced to the paint. After the addition of adhesion promoter, the paint can be used up to 24 hours. After that time, further 2% of adhesion promoter must be added to the paint. Aquaglass is a very stable paint system, even after the addition of adhesion promoter. It is still possible to re-use the paint after a number of weeks without any issues. However, over prolonged period, it will be necessary to adjust the paint in order to achieve the correct viscosity prior to use. 3

The surface of the glass should be thoroughly cleaned and be free of any form of grease/oil contamination. We suggest Cerium Oxide in the washing machine to achieve the best results.

It is possible to dilute with 5% -10% of demineralized water, if required, in order to obtain the ideal viscosity of 35-50 seconds Ford Cup 4 depending on whether the application is high or low

Acetone or pumice powder should be avoided as these can reduce the adhesion of the paint to the glass. Spray Viscosity: For Spray applications, Aquaglass could work well without adding diluent. It is possible to dilute with 5% -10% of demineralized water, if required, in order to obtain the ideal viscosity of seconds Ford Cup 4 depending on whether the application is high or low pressure system. We also supply a strong diluent 0689-DIL which can be used at a maximum of 1% addition. Weigh the diluent separately and add it slowly to the paint during mixing. Reccommended Instructons: After preparing the paint, the paint should be sieved prior to use through a 125/150 micron (about 2500 mesh). We recommend air pressure of 3.0/4.0 bar through a nozzle of 2.2 to 2.5 mm Set an uniform flat fan spray as shown in the picture below The optimum quantity of wet paint on glass should be gram/m 2 Apply the paint in a crossways movement to achieve a homogeneous dry film thickness of about 40/50 microns. After application, the paint should be allowed to flow out on the glass for around 1-2 minutes prior drying. Roller coater Viscosity: In case, the viscosity of the paint is too low, it is possible to increase the viscosity using the thickening agent 0689-ADS. The thickening agent should be added slowly and in small quantities whilst stirring the paint. Normally % is sufficient. This additive reacts promptly after addition and continue to increase the viscosity in the following days. We recommend a maximum addition of 1,5%. Recommended viscosity is seconds through a DIN Cup 6. 4

5 Recommended Instructions: In order to achieve the best possible results, we recommend that the roller coater is operated in baby mode (i.e. 2 rollers have to move in the same clockwise direction and also in the same direction as the glass. The rubber squeegee should be placed appropriately to clean the doctor roller). We recommend the use of 75/100 microns Cuno Mico-Klean 111 Filters which aid the de-airing of the paint in the machine. To obtain the best opaque coverage by roller coater, using 16, 20 or 25 lines/inch roller, a wet film weight must be at least gram/m 2 (i.e microns dry thickness). This coverage is also dependent on the type of rubber hardness and the number of lines on the roller. A 55 line/inch roller is recommended for satin etch and metallic effect paints. Curtain Coater Viscosity: The viscosity of Aquaglass is ideal for curtain coating. If required, we also supply a strong diluent 0689-DIL which can be added to a maximum of 1%. Weigh the diluent separately and add it slowly to the paint during mixing. Recommended Instructions: We recommend the use of 75/100 microns Cuno Mico-Klean 111 Filters which aid the de-airing of the paint in the machine during production. A nylon sock at the end of the channel is suitable in order to defoam the paint after curtain. A viscosity of seconds using Ford Cup 4 is recommended for best results. For best paint coverage, we recommend an application weight of gram/m 2. Drying With Aquaglass, it is possible to use a variety of drying systems. The ideal system is a tunnel outfitted by a flash off and IR drying (short/medium wave) o Flash Off Convection Air 3-4 minutes at 50/60 C depending on the color. o IR Drying 3-4 minutes at 100/120 C. At ambient temperature, the paint is touch dry in 20-30minutes. o After 2/3 hours it is possible to handle the glass whilst maximum hardness is achieved after approximately 72 hours at C. Static Drier/ Convection o 7-8 minutes at C (maximum temperature) o minutes at C 24 hours at C (in a controlled temperature environment). Usually after drying in a tunnel drier, and after cooling the painted glass can be stored immediately with the normal separators paper, pads, powder, etc. 5
