1 Product Description PHOENIX PAINTS MAXICOAT 100 is a 2 Pack Water-Dispersed Top Coat which not only exhibits the physical and chemical strengths of epoxy, but also the safety and convenience of water as the solvent. The product is supplied in two packs, PART A is the resin base plus pigments etc, and PART B is the hardener for the coating. MAXICOAT 100 is designed for use both as a full gloss top coat and also as a high performance concrete coating for workshop floors and motor car showrooms, etc. MAXICOAT 100 has a similar high hardness, gloss level, and chemical resistance to an oil-based epoxy, but is much safer and easier to handle. Immersion tests carried out at room temperature indicate no effect in dilute acids, alkalis, seawater, and solvents (See below for further information). NOTE: This product can be used externally if UV Guard is added (BY REQUEST ONLY). Since the product is water-based, it is easy and safe to use, and there are no hidden costs since no expensive, dangerous, explosive, or toxic solvents or thinners are required for clean-up only water. PHEONIX PAINTS water based REDUCER may be used to lower the viscosity if required. WARNING: DO NOT make up too much of the mix initially, as the paint becomes thicker with time. We recommend starting with one litre of PART A with one litre of PART B Several small batches are better than one large one. Larger batches can be made up with experience. Only mix sufficient product which can be used up in, say, 30 minutes Product Features and Benefits Since MAXICOAT 100 is acrylic in nature, the films produced are not prone to cracking, chipping, or peeling. MAXICOAT 100 is a food grade paint and has been given a rating of C22 by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZMPI). The product is available in a range of colours, including white, red, green, golden yellow, blue, black, and a wide range of pastel shades, e.g, light grey, beige, sky blue, etc. MAXICOAT 100 is also ideal for surfaces which may flex slightly and it can tolerate the presence of water, including salt water. Ensure that all grease, oil, dirt and contaminants have been removed using NEAT undiluted) PHOENIX FLOORPREP 100 then rinsing with fresh water, and if the surface is shiny, abrade the substrate with a wire brush or sanding paper. For heavily contaminated floors (e.g. large quantities of engine oil, grease, etc.), remove the bulk of the material with a proprietary oil and grease remover and allow to dry. Then scrub the surface with neat (undiluted) FLOORPREP 100 and leave for 20 minutes before washing off. WARNING: when rinsing off with fresh water, observe the surface closely to ensure no water rejection is taking place Page 2 of 5 Oct 16, 2017

3 (see the FLOORPREP section on our website ). Remove any old paint by sanding or grinding. 2. FOR NEW CONCRETE FLOORS: Once the floor has dried, etch the concrete using 32-34% hydrochloric acid (spirit of salts or swimming pool acid) diluted 1:4 with water by volume. Always add ACID to the WATER and wear appropriate protective equipment, e.g. face mask, rubber gloves and rubber boots, etc. Scrub into the surface using a stiff broom and, after 20 minutes, thoroughly wash down using fresh water and allow to dry completely (minimum 24 hours). Any residual moisture in the surface may lead to bubbling in the paint. Follow the appropriate safety procedures as laid down by the acid manufacturer / supplier. WARNING: TILT UP PANELS: These surfaces (incl. the floor) are sealed with SHUTTER OIL which must be removed with neat FLOORPREP 100 and then washed off and allowed to dry before acid etching. Test the dry surface (see paragraph 1) before painting. FOR OTHER SURFACES: If the surface requires priming (e.g, for bare steel or aluminium, etc), apply 1 to 2 coats of METALFIX for rusted surfaces, or METALFIX 1000 for most other surfaces, and allow to dry and cure thoroughly (See the respective Technical Data Sheets). 3. Next, apply 2 coats of MAXICOAT 100 using a brush, spray gun (conventional or airless) or roller. The roller nap should be 8mm to 15mm, depending upon the roughness and condition of the floor. Do not use flat or sponge rollers. If the weather is warm or the paint appears to be thick, add a small amount of MAXICOAT 100 water-based REDUCER until the paint flows satisfactorily. DO NOT OVER DILUTE. We usually supply a 500ml bottle of reducer for each 10L pack, but try to use less than half of this. The paint should be thick enough to crackle when applied by roller. If the paint can drip off the roller, too much Reducer has been added. Allow 4-8 hours between coats, depending upon the prevailing temperature and humidity, but if possible, during damp or cool conditions, leave overnight before recoating. WARNING: If less than the full pack of the Part A plus Part B is to be used, then ensure that the Part A component is fully stirred on its own to remedy any slight settling which might have taken place. After this, any quantity of paint can be made up providing that exactly equal volumes of the A and B are combined. Page 3 of 5 Oct 16, 2017

4 WARNING: Some rogue floors can resist the cleaning and etching stages and we strongly advise to carry out a test patch to confirm adhesion before proceeding with the whole area. Note: The Part A and B should be accurately mixed together in exactly equal volumes and then stirred thoroughly, otherwise colour variations and inferior film properties may develop. SPRAYING MAXICOAT 100: Ensure that the correct tip size is used to avoid dry over spraying which can give rise to reduced gloss levels. Note also that an induction period of 5-10 minutes should be allowed after combining the two parts. The mixture should be stirred during this period to allow any reactive gases to escape from the paint. As a guide, approximately 5% - 10% REDUCERS by volume may be used (but this can be varied according to experience). 4. Ensure that the MAXICOAT 100 is allowed to fully dry and cure before being exposed to moisture or rain, etc. Wash all brushes etc. out in water immediately after use, and do not allow the coating to set hard on any of these items. 5. The hardness of the film will continue to increase during the next day or two following application. 6. In common with almost every other surface coating, it is not recommended to apply PHOENIX MAXICOAT 100 if the temperature is below approximately 15⁰C or above 35⁰C. During extremes of either hot or cold weather, apply the coating early in the morning, having already cleaned, prepared and dried the surface. WARNING: DURING COLD WEATHER All Phoenix Paints products should be warmed to 20 to 30 C before the coatings are applied for best results. 7. FOR A NON SLIP FINISH: To produce a non-slip finish in the paint film, we can supply GLASS BEADS (with a top size of approximately 540 microns) which should be sprinkled on top of the first coat of MAXICOAT 100 while it is still wet. DO NOT stir the Glass Beads into the actual paint prior to application, since an even distribution cannot be achieved. The addition rate can be varied to suit, but this can be typically 2 to 3 Kgs Glass Beads per 10L mix. WARNING: The more beads, the greater the non-slip effect and the more dirt will be attracted to the surface, making it more difficult to clean. 8. WARNING: This should be stored away from direct sunlight at a temperature of approximately 25 degrees Centigrade. WARNING: This coating may be prone to some dulling or chalking after prolonged exposure to U V /sunshine. (See UV GUARD comments above). Page 4 of 5 Oct 16, 2017

Larger batches can be made up with experience, but only make up sufficient material which can be used up within 30 minutes. 10. WARNING: If using an airless spray, ensure that the paint is sufficiently diluted and also minimize the period between mixing and spraying, to avoid problems with increasing viscosity. Remove the stainless steel basket filter in the hand set to avoid pressure build-ups in the lines. If any PHOENIX PAINTS product is being used in conjunction with any other paint or coating, we strongly advise to carry out a test patch first to ensure that no adverse reactions occurs.
