1 LINCOLN QUILTERS GUILD BULLETIN View this in your browser LQG 2017 Programs and Classes Bulletin April 2017 Issue The Guild meets the second Monday of the month (March - November) at 7:00 p.m., at the College View Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 49th and Prescott Streets, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Welcome to the April 2017 issue of the LQG Programs and Classes Bulletin. You will be receiving a bulletin from us every month that will provide you with information on our upcoming program speakers and class offerings. The 2017 programs and classes have something for everyone! Please note that all programs and classes are subject to change. All LQG meetings and classes are held at the College View Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 4801 Prescott Avenue, in Lincoln, Nebraska (use east and southeast entrances), unless otherwise noted. Admission for Non-members is $5.00 at the door. Nonmembers can register for classes, provided there is not a class size restriction, in which members are given first opportunity to register. 3 next meeting of the Lincoln Quilters Guild at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 8, 2017 at the College View Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 4801 Prescott Avenue in Lincoln, Nebraska. Guests are welcome to attend. Admission for non-members is $5.00 at the door. Scott is originally from Longmont, Colorado, and moved to Fremont, Nebraska, in August of 2003 to attend Midland Lutheran College. Scott's love of quilting started with his grandmother, but he comes from a family of crafters and woodworkers. He and his grandmother spent many hours at the sewing machine piecing fabric together for quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Scott s quilting journey spans more than 20 years, and his quilt collection contains more than 150 quilts, and has made more than 300 quilts. In 2011, Scott started his own pattern design company, 4th and Main Designs by Scott Alan Flanagan. He spends much of his free time designing quilt patterns exclusively for Country Traditions in Fremont, where he also teaches classes. His quilt design, Sand and Sea, is featured on the cover of the March/April 2017 Quiltmaker magazine! NOTE: THERE IS NO CLASS OFFERING IN MAY.

5 Quilting became Connie Olson s passion in the late 70 s. Connie is a charter member of the Prairie Pioneer Quilters of Grand Island, and is past Regional Director and Treasurer for the Nebraska State Quilt Guild. She also served as Treasurer for QuiltNebraska She most recently served on the Awards Committee for the State Guild. She helped design and did the applique for the State Guild s 2016 raffle quilt, Circles of Fun. Having been in health care for forty-plus years, Connie credits quilt making for helping keep her somewhat sane. She has never seen a quilt she didn t appreciate an often says, So much fabric, so many quilts and so little time! She always has at least two projects going at any one time, as well as a beading project in the works. In her trunk show, Connie will share a quilt as well as a story for each letter of the alphabet. No dictionary is required. All Scrabble players welcome! June Class: June 13, 2017 Instructor: Connie Olson of Grand Island, Nebraska Class Project: Cubes Diamonds are a Quilters Best Friend Note! This class has a registration deadline of May 23, 2017 and is limited to the first 25 students. LQG members have first opportunity to

6 register until May 9, After that date, any open spots can be filled by non-members. In this full-day class, students will learn to create 3-D quilt blocks using 60 degree diamonds. They will also learn to draft their favorite block patterns to make additional cubes. It will be a fun, no pressure day, suitable for beginners as well as the experienced quilt maker. Even though this project may look difficult, it is soooo easy. If you can sew strips together and use a rotary cutter, you are in business! This is a technique developed by Karen Combs (karencombs.com). There are two different sizes of blocks and generally everyone finishes at least one block and usually more during the class.
