2 Hand-Operated AIR SPLICER Jointair 110 & llow I CARE & MAINTENANCE I I I INTRODUCTION I The Jointair splicer produces high strength almost imperceptible joins in a wide range of filament and long staple fiber yarns. It is used in many yarn plant and fabric forming processes. This manual applies to two models of the Jointair series - Code 11 0 and Code 11 OR. They are basically the same in design and function, differing only in a few features that will affect splice appearance. Code 1 10 Jointair - The overall capacity of the Code 11 0 series splicers is between 10 and 4000 denier continuous filament or the equivalent cotton staple count (low twist and flat yarns). Code 1 1 OR Jointair - This splicer offers the same overall splicing capacity as the standard However, this unit incorporates a special clamping and retraction mechanism which minimizes or eliminates protruding splice tails. General Cleaning: Note: Disconnect Splicer from air supply before cleaning. The Jointair Splicer should be cleaned periodically. The frequency of cleaning depends on the fiber processed and any additives or spin finish used. Since the splicer is airoperated, most impurities are removed by the air blasts. However, lubricants and impurities from the air may buildup inside of the splicer body which can cause problems with splicer efficiency and consistency. To correct this problem, your qualified maintenance technician should disassemble, clean and lubricate the internal valves and seals using a light grease (Part No. 232). Also, fiber can accumulate between the scissor blades and cause occasional mis-cuts. When this occurs, the scissors should be removed, cleaned and refitted. Filtered Air: It is always wise to filter the air before it reaches the splicer. If this is not possible, the splicer must be cleaned more often because impurities may be passing through the splicer at all times. Cleaning The Air Chamber: The air chamber should be removed, inspected and cleaned on a monthly basis. Loose debris can lodge in the chamber orifice, thus resulting in poor splicer performance. Application: The Jointair is used successfully in many yarn joining applications, including winding, warping, twisting, heat setting, weaving, knitting and tufting. The 110 series splicers can join virtually any synthetic fiber including nylon, polyester, rayon, acrylic, kevlar, fiberglass and carbon fiber. Contents: This booklet includes operating instructions, maintenance information and a complete parts manual. Most questions about the splicer are answered here, and the brief instructions and troubleshooting sections will quickly help you adjust the splicer to solve your specific problem. However, if additional help is needed, Mill Devices Company provides full service for you from their Gastonia, North Carolina office. SELECTING THE CORRECT MINGLING CHAMBER (Refer to Part No pg. 6) The most important part ot the Jointair splicer is the mingling chamber where the yarn joining function is actually performed. The chambers are available in several different sizes and variations for such applications as reverse twist yarn and plied yarn. Shown below is a chart with some chambers and their range of application. It is important to remember that the chamber shown for a particular yarn count is not necessarily the chamber you should be utilizing in your in-plant operation. These are only startifig points. In-plant variables and yarn quality will determine your chamber selection.?
