CONITEX SONOCO High Performance Paper Yarn Carriers enhance the productivity and output quality of fully automatic, high speed winders as well as semi-automatic and manual winders. Using proprietary technology, CONITEX SONOCO manufactures high performance paper cones and paper tubes for the spun yarn market. Our philosophy of addressing and satisfying the requirements of modern high technology, automatic yarn spinning, winding and twisting equipment has established new standards in paper yarn carriers. The new standard is not a one carrier fits all program, especially in paper cones. Working with yarn manufacturers in more than fifty countries, we have learned to examine each customer s machine set up and then make carriers accordingly. CONITEX SONOCO does not make a generic yarn carrier; all carriers are produced according to each customer s requirements.

4 h i g h p e r f o r m a n c e FEATURES CONITEX SONOCO offers many features to assist in yarn packaging. These features are available upon customer request. Paper Yarn Carriers are available with both open nose and bull nose. Bull nose is preferred because it offers a smooth flow of the yarn off the carriers. It is also consistently and tightly rolled to fit the customer s machine requirements. GROOVES Reserve Groove for yarn tail placement is available as well as other grooves for special needs. NOTCHES V, Y, U, I and double notches are available to customer s specifications. PRO-FIT The innovative Pro-Fit Bullnose is designed to increase your paper carrier winding performance on modern high-speed winders and spinning frames that require a perfect fit. ANTI-NESTING RIB The ANTI- NESTING RIB reduces wall-towall friction of nested paper cones and therefore eases the process of separating the cones. It also reduces potential repetitive motion injury and minimizes machine downtime. SOFTUCK Softuck softens the inside edge of the paper cone for certain take up units to prevent yarn tail loss. S.G.O.B. A feathered edge at the base of the paper yarn carrier to prevent yarn tail loss on specific rotor spinning applications.

5 c o n e s & t u b e s PRINTING Custom printing is available for both the inside and outside of the yarn carrier. The printing can include the yarn producer s name, company logo, yarn identification and origin. CONITEX SONOCO customers can often reduce the high cost of labeling utilizing this feature. YARN IDENTIFICATION Trying to identify yarn packages by color alone can cause problems especially in poorly lit areas. CONITEX SONOCO has an innovative system in which we offer a choice of colors plus easily recognizable patterns to enhance the customer s creative identification program.

6 h i g h p e r f o r m a n c e SURFACE - CONES A very important feature of any yarn carrier is the outside surface that holds and protects the quality of the yarn being produced. Some carriers have a flocked surface. The flocking material is a manmade fiber that has been glued to the surface of the carriers. At the time of start up of a flocked carrier, some of the fiber immediately flies into the air and settles on the bearings of the take up unit causing excessive and expensive wear. Also this loose fiber often lingers in the air to be breathed into the lungs of the operators. We have also seen fiber from flocked carriers mingle with cotton yarns causing small undyed spots in fabric made with this yarn. The PLUSH surface on CONITEX SONOCO paper yarn carriers utilizes the fiber of the paper to generate a soft, clean surface that protects the quality of the yarn and also provides excellent holding properties for proper start up. There are no loose fibers to be concerned about. SURFACE TUBES CONITEX SONOCO manufactures paper tubes with surfaces designed for the particular yarn process the customer is using. Rotor Spinning responds best to a regular PLUSH paper finish surface that not only properly holds the yarn in place, but is also suitable for printing colors and designs. Air Jet Spinning, due to the configuration of the tube holder, requires outside lining with either kraft finish paper or greaseproof paper and start up grooves or slots.

7 c o n e s & t u b e s BENEFITS The following benefits enable the yarn producer to achieve better machine efficiencies by improving take up speeds and reducing expensive backwinding of poorly formed yarn packages. DIMENSIONAL ACCURACY As winding operations become increasingly automated, accuracy of carrier dimensions becomes vital. Machinery manufacturers manuals specify that the yarn carrier be made to a tolerance of ±1mm in length and ±0.25mm in inside diameter at both the top and the bottom of the carrier. These tolerances are critical to the operation of the machines in order to achieve targeted efficiency. All CONITEX SONOCO yarn carriers are made and guaranteed to these tolerances. BALANCED, ROUND CONITEX SONOCO paper yarn carriers are finely balanced. By eliminating heavy areas around the circumference of the carriers, especially at the seam overlap, the carrier spins evenly at top operating speed. The yarn carrier must be round. Even a slightly oval shape will cause the carrier to bounce or vibrate during yarn winding. The faster the take up speed, the more bouncing will occur. Bouncing at the time of start up causes fiber latching in the yarn that results in an irregular, jerky offwind and poor yarn transfer. An oval carrier also contributes to poor tension control in the beginning of the yarn package formation that allows the yarn to slough instead of transfer. The CONITEX SONOCO technology insures round carriers every time.
