1 Bring the party to life with giant sock monkeys that will become guests new BFFs. Place the costumed softies wherever you need a pop of silly decor on a bench by the front door or on a chair near the buffet table. Smaller monkeys can sit on a mantel or dangle from a chandelier. The more the merrier!

Materials Computer printer Downloadable patterns and diagrams Lightweight paper Scissors 2 pairs of knee socks in same color/pattern of choice (for body, arms, and legs) 1 pair of knee socks

2 Materials Computer printer Downloadable patterns and diagrams Lightweight paper Scissors 2 pairs of knee socks in same color/pattern of choice (for body, arms, and legs) 1 pair of knee socks in contrasting color/pattern (for belly) Contrasting embroidery floss and tapestry needle 1 pair of black socks (for ears) Polyester fiberfill and stuffing tool Assorted felt scraps Fabric glue

3 Instructions 1. Print the downloadable patterns on lightweight paper; cut out. 2. Smooth two matching knee socks for the body. Referring to Diagram 1, cut off each foot to make two tubes. Save the feet pieces for later. Cut up the long side of each tube and open flat. 3. Cut one sock from the contrasting pair in the same manner to make a flat piece for the belly. Referring to Diagram 2, pin the Contrast Belly pattern on the right side of the flat piece; cut out. 4. Pin the belly piece with its pattern on top to the top cut edge of one of the body pieces (the sock ribbing will be at the bottom edge); baste together. Satin- stitch the raw edge of the belly piece to the body; remove the pattern. 5. Referring to Diagram 3a, cut one of the sock feet from Step 2 so the heel is centered when opened flat; this piece will be the face. Referring to Diagram 3b, cut the matching sock foot from Step 2 so half the heel is on each side when opened flat; this piece will be the back of the head. 6. Pin the face piece to the top of the body/belly piece with right sides together. Sew the pieces together, then open and lay the sewn piece flat to create the monkey front, as shown in Diagram 4. Using embroidery floss and the tapestry needle, stitch a running- stitch smile onto the contrasting heel to make a snout. Leave the stitches a bit loose to allow for stretching when the head is stuffed. 7. Referring to Diagram 5, pin the head back piece to the top of the remaining body piece with right sides together. Sew together, then open and lay the piece flat to create the monkey back. 8. Using the Ear pattern, cut four ear pieces from black socks. Pin and sew two pieces together around the curved side. Turn right side out and pinch the straight edge; baste the edge to make one ear. Repeat to make a second ear. 9. Pin the Head pattern to the head front piece, aligning the neck seams. Position ears on sides of head with right sides together; baste. Remove the pattern. 10. Turn one of the remaining knee socks inside out. Referring to Diagram 6, flatten and smooth, then pin the layers together. Using contrasting thread, baste two lines down the sock as shown by the dashed lines on the diagram. Machine- stitch over the basted lines, then cut between the lines of stitching to

4 create one leg and one arm piece. Turn the pieces right side out and stuff with fiberfill using a stuffing tool. Repeat with the matching sock to make a second leg and arm set. 11. Position arms on body front with right sides together, baste. 12. With right sides together, position the front and back body pieces together, aligning the neck seams carefully and sandwiching the arms between the layers. Pin the Head pattern to the head front, aligning the bottom of the pattern piece to the neck seam. Baste together, as shown by the dashed lines in Diagram 7. Machine- stitch over the basted lines. Clip the seam allowance around the curved head edge. Turn right side out and stuff with polyester fiberfill. 13. Baste the legs to the inside back of the body through the bottom opening. Hand- stitch the body closed. 14. Using the patterns, cut eyes, cheeks, and a nose from desired colors of felt. Stitch two French knots on the nose for nostrils. Adhere the felt pieces to the face using fabric glue. If desired, add a purchased hat or crown to the monkey s head. Diagram 1 Diagram 2 Diagram 3a Diagram 3b
