3 SEPTEMER 16, 2013 PATRICIA BEAVER A Funny Thing Happened To Me When I Moved To Utah! Hear the story of one quilter s odyssey! A nice, all around trunk show - quilts in different sizes/techniques - quilts that appeal to everyone. Penny Rugs by the Yard Workshop Using wool, felt, or a combination of the two, students will make a magnificent 36 Folk Art table rug or a smaller table runner. Different stitches will be taught, along with finishing techniques. All levels. Patterns provided or use your own. Free practice kits and a booklet given to every student. 4 OCTOBER 14, 2013 TERRY WALDRON You Are Too, An Artist! In this combination talk and trunk show, the audience will be teased into remembering that once they were ALL artists a long time ago when they were young! This talk will open the doors of the lost creativity we were all born with. It s great and useful information from an artist who hasn t lost her inner child! The Scavenger Hunt Art Quilt Workshop Students will receive a list of 5 things that they must FIND, not buy! That makes this quilt/pillow economical and truly one-ofa-kind. Wait 'til you see the list! Besides found objects, students will bring fabric that they LOVE, fusing material, maybe even fabric glue, but they can do some sewing, as well. Students will learn the 4 MOST IMPORTANT principles of Just about my favorite thing to do in the art so they can design their own unique piece of art long whole world is to teach. My second favorite after this class is over. They may even leave this class seeing new possibilities in the over-looked items all around us. thing is to give talks about my quilts, telling the truth about the triumphs and the disasters that I've experienced in each of my pieces It just might be the ultimate recycling art class! My work is included in several books, and I've written articles about my techniques. And it was a truly exciting thing to be featured on Alex "Simply Quilts." It was shot here in my house! I was the lead judge for the Hoffman Challenge and I've even been a quilt judge for the country fair! It's exhausting, but fun, however, face-to-face teaching and talking is my favorite of all! 5 NOVEMBER 11, 2013 KIM DIEHL A Simple Trunk Show This informal and light-hearted presentation features quilts from my Simple series of books and includes a handful of quilts from American Patchwork & Quilting magazine as well, for a combined total of at least 35 quilts! Hear stories of my successes (and mistakes) as I was learning to quilt. Scrap Basket Blossoms Workshop Gather scraps from your favorite prints and treat yourself to a fun and relaxing workshop as you stitch this quilt with traditional flavor. Not available in any book, the variety of gentle shapes in this design are perfect for learning Kim's invisible machine applique technique, and you'll discover just how easy it can be to produce consistently smooth applique edges, flawlessly curving vines, and crisp, sharp points. This modern time-saving method is easily mastered and will enable you to achieve finished shapes that closely duplicate the look of needle-turn applique, but they can be sewn in a fraction of the time. And because you'll love stitching this block so much that you won't want to stop, bonus directions for an alternate four-block version of this project will be provided in class. 6 JANUARY 13, 2014 SHARON SCHAMBER Painted Faces Workshop Date: Sunday, January 12, 2014 & Monday, January 13, part class Cost: $40 members / $50 non-member Whimsical Garden Dreams Workshop This class will teach you how to use Appliqué foundation paper to create the lovely look of hand appliqué. All the applique is done by machine (also Can be done by hand). This class is designed for the average quilter that wants to move onto a higher level of work. Every quilter will love this class. If you have loved applique but were afraid to try, with this technique you can do the most beautiful appliqué ever. I started my quilting just like most of you - buying the wrong fabric, using the wrong batting, and using the wrong needles. With time, I learned to use what really works for me, even though the product might not be known as the "right" one. However, I do not, under any circumstances, compromise my standards. I had to learn what a scant quarter and a fat quarter were. Translating all those unusual terms that we use, so casually, was the next step. The first year was just a spin of learning and creating a base for future quilts. For a novice, the learning curve is quite steep. I remember my grandmother quilting back in the `60s, but everything was so different when compared to today. I hope that the quilt world will be just as different for my grandchildren.when I first began I had no idea that quilts were being machine quilted. I remember only that quilts were all hand-pieced and hand-quilted. I remember my Grandma Larsen counting the stitches per inch and ranting about being inconsistent, so that is where I went. I set out to find how many stitches per inch I needed to make my quilts "right." I asked the wrong person, and she told me that it was just rude to ask. 7 FEBRUARY 10, 2014 SUSAN AXELROD The Journey Continues Susan will speak on how she got her start into quilting and teaching, where she finds her motivation and inspiration, and will give you some of her favorite tips and tricks. A trunk show of quilts will follow. Applique the Easy Way Workshop Freezer paper templates, glue basting, and hand appliqué sewing techniques with lots of tips and tricks, too. Learn basic appliqué techniques and all the shapes you find in appliqué blocks. Learn and do with hands on practice in class. Date: Sunday, February 9, 2014 Cost: $40 members / $50 non-member

8 MARCH 10, 2014 PAULA REID Confessions of an Avid Machine Quilter This is a trunk show of Paula s work from the modest beginning to the present. LOTS of quilts; no slides. Trapunto by Machine Workshop Using techniques that were pioneered by Hari Walner, Paula teaches you how to easily attain that beautiful raised look without time-consuming stuffing or cutting holes in the back of your work. In 6 hours, most participants will complete an 18" project. Date: Sunday, March 9, 2014 Location: Bits & Pieces Cost: $30 members / $40 non-member Paula made her first quilt in April 1990, three weeks after attending the Glendale (California) Quilt Show with her best friend, Mary Ponce. She taught her first machine piecing class two years later, but found that her heart was captured by the quilting process. In 1993, Paula opened her machine quilting business, utilizing the skills she had developed working on her own quilts. The largest quilt she has ever fluffed and stuffed was 112 x 128! Fluff & Stuff is what Paula calls her method for moving large quilts through a home machine. She began teaching workshops on her techniques in the southern California region in 1993, expanding to national teaching a few years later when appearances on Simply Quilts brought her to the attention of a larger audience. Now spending weeks at a time on the road, she has decided that nothing is more fun than sharing ideas with the quilters she meets on her travels. Please take a look at Paula's website:

9 APRIL 14, 2014 BETH FERRIER Pieces of a Quilters Life Who would have guessed that a life long addiction to fiber would end up like this? Beth has had more than her share of quilting adventures. Her humorous stories will leave you laughing. Includes a trunk show. Simply Roses Workshop A lovely little taste of appliqué, this wall hanging (finishing 8 ½ x 20 ½) makes a fine introduction to Beth's Hand Appliqué by Machine technique. We'll explore color and value, making our templates, glue basting and sewing our motifs, making perfect circles and tiny stems. Date: Tuesday, April 15, 2014 Cost: $40 members / $50 non-member Beth is a highly experienced quilter who has a gift for teaching. Beth has a degree in biological sciences and many credit hours in education. She was given her first sewing kit in kindergarten and has been putting needle to thread ever since. A quilter since 1975, it didn't take long for her to begin designing her own patterns. A teacher by nature, it was only a matter of time before the quilting classes began. "It's important to me that every student come away from my class eager for the next challenge. I love what happens to a quilter's soul when she masters a new technique." 10 MAY 12, 2014 CATHY VAN BRUGGEN No Time to Sew Do you want to sew but just can t find the time? This program is an informative and humorous presentation designed to give members tips on how to use precious time to sew. Garden Walk Workshop I began sewing at a very early age. I remember sewing doll clothes by hand while watching my mother create costumes. Later, I was hired by Catalina Swimwear as a production manager and sample maker. Unable to work outside the home while raising five children, I designed custom bridal wear. In 1970, we developed a family business called The Outfitters, a retail chain for women's clothing. When I retired in 1995, I began quilting as a hobby. By using timesaving techniques in quilt making, I developed Appliqué the Easy Way. I enjoy creating botanically correct appliqué featuring flowers, birds, and woodland creatures. My workshops feature all my original designs and published patterns.
